As I mentioned in the last article, we are featured two user groups simultaneously. As a recap:
Asylum Open Mic and P.R.I.A.T.E are two huge user groups based purely around social interaction. Some share users, some of the users have rivalries, and some users are best friends. However, they both claim to be "kind." I thought that given the chance, they would jump at each others' throats, but that turned out to be a false assumption!
I interviewed both user groups separately and then gave them a chance to "critique" the other group's answers. They did so with glee, and what arose was a ... well, just see for yourself.
This week, we are showing the interview answers from Asylum Open Mic and the inserted comments from a couple the admins from P.R.I.A.T.E.:
- Why was Asylum Open Mic founded?
Because Souplex wanted a place reserved for sheer babble that had no place on the forums, I suppose.
I'm not using it as a tracking mechanism at all. Promise.
Boredom really. it was at a point when there wasn't much going on, and I realized I could make a usergroup, so I felt why not?
One bright sunny night in the South Sea, a man named Souplex looked upon the world and was distraught that so many where so sane. Seeing that the world was in peril this man built the asylum brick by brick, stacking them high into the sky for twenty years. One cold bitter afternoon in the outskirts of New York the Asylum quietly opened and the first of many wandered inside, destined to be cured of their sanity. Thusly Souplex created the first case of insanity so that the world would know variety.
- What do you see as the future of the group?
Hopefully, more people will join it and continue the grand tradition of coming up with off the wall stuff...yeah, I'm not good at guessing this kinda stuff.
Getting more people, and having more fun.
After the robot uprising it will be the Asylum that finally creates the computer virus that defeats the robots and puts them back in their place. That place being wherever there is a job to be done that nobody actually wants to do.
- What do you think other users could gain from the group?
The ability to jump into odd conversations at will and be able to keep a general tone of oddity going, perhaps. I've found it's also a good venting ground. They may also gain a few pounds and some odd diseases...oh, and arm mohawks.
We're huge. (And we have a large userbase) Fun, an audience, shameless plugs.
Everyone that join gain the respect of all their peers, an attractive mate, success at work, buckets of money, and a tub of green Jell-o.
- What sets you apart from other user groups?
I suppose it'd be the fact that odd, not even tangential thoughts are encouraged. No, I don't think any more babble is needed here. Why? Were you expecting some? Too bad. I don't feel like babbling right now. Come back in an answer.
Due to having no specific goal outside of fun, and having a large userbase, you can get whatever you need there. Be it advice, gaming buddies, people to fill out a survey, or what have you, we are there for it.
The tub of green Jell-o. All that other stuff you can just pick up anywhere, but a tub of green Jell-o can only be found in The Asylum.
- If you could improve one aspect of the User Group area, what would you improve?
Umm...a built in cookie dispenser? That would be incredible. I'd be your toenail trimmer for a year.
Some of our members aren't active enough for my tastes. (This is more on you than on me, but I was hoping that there could be a rank between member and admin that had minor benefits like being able to make newsposts because a lot of our members write tons or reviews, but always have to ask someone else for a newspost)
The goats where a nice touch, but I really am not sure what to do with them. They get in the way sometimes as well. I guess they are not a nice touch after all, but I didn't want to say they where a bad touch and confuse people.
- Anything else you would like to add?
Well, yes. I would love to add five tons of eyes to a cauldron of hopping fingers, but I doubt that will happen for a good while.
There are far too many groups that came after the Asylum that have the same goal: nothing. Most of them are mostly made up of Asylum members, and the Asylum is by far the largest. Every single on of them hurts all the others by diverting posts away from each other. We must unify for the good of all!
And now I leave you with this song. Thank you for your time.
How come Kuliani gets to disappear to the beach and I don't? Something about the beach just draws me in. It might just be the swimsuits, but I like to think it's the crabs.
Aside from that all I wanted to point out that I tried to answer the questions as well as I could within the spirit of The Asylum. Which is a fun, zany, quirky, and open social environment where nearly anything goes as long as it adds to the overall enjoyment of everyone there.
Anyone else believe Demented_Teddy having so much real-life stuff that we don't deserve even one comment?
Manaman, I get to disappear to the beach when I want to make Spinwhiz go insane.
If you would like to nominate a user group for an upcoming Featured User Group, feel free to let me (that is, Kuliani) know through a PM!
