[Polatics] Trump wants to dump Migrants in Sanctuary Cities

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/white-house-proposed-releasing-immigrant-detainees-in-sanctuary-cities-to-target-political-enemies

So, the President wants to release detained migrants into the custady of Sanctuary Cities. Somehow I think this is going to turn out badly for all.

Thoughts?

Hm, was doubtful cause Fox News, but the Fox News article linked to a Washington Post article with literally the same headline.

So what? Is this like when you catch your kid smoking, so you make them smoke a whole carton or something? Is that the plan here?

Anyways, the pros and cons as I see it.

Pro: These people get to be in the US.

Con: Right-wingers get to spin a bunch of bullshit, particularly when the overload of people stresses the cities' resources, and actual crimes get committed by any of the immigrants, then they get to blanket condemn all of them. Also right-wingers don't have to deal with the immigrants themselves.

Reminder to any 'totally not racist' immigrant haters out there, Trump is the one letting the immigrants in. If you hate them 'despite how not racist you are', blame Trump. You probably wont, atleast you wont actually stop supporting him for it, but still, Trump is the one to blame.

Yeah, but I'm thinking the overgrown oompaloompa is planning on flooding the sanctuary cities past what they can reasonably help these people in need, or hopes to. One more year of this, right?

Saw it coming; this is not the first time USA has concentration camps, I'm surprised they didn't wait for WWIII this time tho. Those who don't learn from history...

Its less 'Concentration Camp' (for now) and more 'You want immigrants, fine, have ALL the immigrants!'.

So what if he did? Is he going to build a wall around US cities and live out his "Escape from LA" fantasies? What is the difference between dropping them off in one city vs them starting in another? They will just go to where they were trying to go regardless. If a city gets overwhelmed, they just bus them elsewhere as they have been for ages now. There are plenty of employers and farming towns that will gladly pay to have migrants bused to them as they are very shorthanded atm. I don't see this as a problem tbh. It is nothing border cities have not dealt with for a long time, so am not really seeing it any different.

Does Trump somehow think that the US has not dealt with influxes of migrants for a very long time or something? Simply because he does not know how to deal with immigration does not mean everyone else is as stupid as he is.

The Sanctuary Cities, from what little I understand keep in mind, are suppose to be safe places. A refuge from the hell the Illegal Aliens usually get. THey move out of them they have a higher chance of getting flack.

Trump is a petulant, spoiled brat of a man-child. I'm about as apolitical as they come, but this "man" seems to go out of his way to find ways to grind gears I've managed to gleefully ignore for nearly 30 years.

Define what places will be Sanctuary Cities?

If Trump starts telling farmers he will bus migrants to sanctuary cities for free, you can be damn sure more towns run by farmers are going to instantly become sanctuary cities. LOL

They would LOVE Trump to do that, not get mad about it. They will just be moving more of them around to other sanctuary cities if they get unevenly distributed.

These are existing sancturay states/ counties/ cities:

Not sure if it is up to date or complete. Though it is said Trump was scrapping this idea, likely because he realized how happy he was making everyone, if he did go with this idea, I am sure more would start popping up all over the place. The people and their local government there are who decide if they want to become a sanctuary city. Although numerous churches in most cities will offer sanctuary as well, they are not able to leave the church when that happens.

So this is just an extension of conservative idea that no one wants immigrants in their actual backyard. Like that reporter breaking into the Dems senators house with illegals a few weeks ago, just to prove that the Dems don't want to look after them.

Seems like it backfired because sanctuary are actually interested in helping

Many towns and cities that have had population in decline ALSO want them. That is why that big blob over Iowa exists for sanctuary on the map linked above.

Unlike what Trump attempts to portray, immigrants help the economy and communities rather than harm them. Trump just wants to divert attention from the REAL problem facing communities and that is the wealthy sucking them dry by hoarding all the resources and funneling all the wealth into fewer and fewer hands making it so the communities can no longer support themselves. Reality is the communities NEED the immigrants. What they don't need is the One percenters like Trump taking all their resources for themselves leaving everyone else with nothing. Trump's racist attacks on immigrants was just to rile people to have a "common enemy" so they would waste their time focusing their anger on that instead of on the real problem. It is just a diversion. Immigrants are hard workers and can help build a community, Trump and most of the wealthy in the US are not, they just take the wealth that those working hard should have earned while not working hardly at all for the most part. IF we took their hands out of the cookie jar there would be more than enough for everyone else.

No wonder they sound so much alike, Trump apparently had Hitler's speeches in his bedside table:

Donald Trump reportedly owned a copy of Adolf Hitler?s speeches and kept them in his bedside cabinet.

A 1990 Vanity Fair article about billionaire businessman stated that Mr Trump?s then wife Ivana, said her husband owned a copy of ?My New Order? ? a printed collection of the Nazi leader?s speeches.

Marie Brenner, the article?s author, wrote: ?Ivana Trump told her lawyer Michael Kennedy that from time to time her husband reads a book of Hitler's collected speeches, 'My New Order', which he keeps in a cabinet by his bed.

Sure, farms are a large scale employer for farm workers who lost their fields due to climate change, thus there are already numerous experienced farmers needing work:
https://www.texasobserver.org/climate-change-migration-central-america-united-states/

Of course they are not all farmers, but when many of them actually are farmers who lost everything due to climate change, it is okay to address them as farmers. Immigrants are not the only farmers in the US btw. The only person I see claiming they are "nothing else" is you. Discussing that the US has major shortages on farms and that many of the immigrants coming to the US happen to actually be farmers makes sense when they are a large scale employer.

This guy started out as a dishwasher and went on to become a restaurant owner before Trump had him deported:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/national/wp/2018/03/11/feature/a-beloved-restaurant-owner-was-deported-a-community-was-in-uproar-then-it-moved-on/

25% of new businesses in the US are from immigrants:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/dinahwisenberg/2018/07/31/immigrant-entrepreneurs-form-25-of-new-u-s-business-researchers/

Of course they are "everything else" just like "everyone else", that is just how reality works here. Simply because I discuss farms because they large scale employers who are extremely shorthanded right now in no way implies they are " nothing else", I also discussed how they are rebuilding and reviving communities. You need much more than farmers to get that done now don't you?

Trump: "Ooops, I accidentally proposed a good idea, so we're scrapping that effective immediately!"

Well, not distributed. Capitalism means that if you entering the market, you will have a low wage. So it's a general resignation to this is just how the world works

Something that was made apparent to me; Trump considers immigrants to be scum, criminals and rapists (Trump likes to project doesn't he?) so what he is doing in his mind is unleashing a ton of rapists and criminals onto Left-Wing cities. While he is wrong about these people, his intent is (unsurprisingly) extremely malicious. If he was accurate about immigrants (he isn't by the way) then that means he was totally ok destroying American cities to 'prove a point' or whatever.

Trump is the real scum and he is indefensible.

lol, the guy is trying to set up a quasi social experiment about immigration.

Yeah, but it's one of those internet Social Experiments, in that it only became one after people started laughing at him.

I mean, what's stopping the immigrants from leaving these cities after they're released there and going somewhere else? Is he gonna erect a force field too?

This is not really thought out properly.

He's trying to get back at the evil lefties by dumping immigrants randomly, and he will scream about rape and crime getting out of control, even when it didn't happen.

Since when did Trump think ANYTHING out properly? He doesn't know what it means to think ahead, that was why he ran his businesses into the ground until he hired babysitters to run them so he wouldn't break everything he touches anymore and make him look good.

Which worked out very well for him, though. At face value, this isn't a good idea, but as sound and fury signifying nothing, but pleasing to his supporters mightn't be so bad. People keep labeling Trump as stupid, I think much of the time he's apathetic or malevolent instead.

Presumably that other places don't try to avoid enforcing immigration laws, and he's overestimating or planning to increase enforcement in the areas surrounding sanctuary cities..

He's not dumping them randomly, he's specifically dumping them in places that are averse to the enforcement of immigration laws. It's basically catching your kid with a cigarette and making them smoke an entire carton as punishment.

Of course, if illegal immigration on a massive scale is even a tenth as bad as the right generally claims, being in the midst of it has a reasonable chance of sending folks rightward. Or just causing some folks to move away as crime goes up and property values go down, you know "white flight."

Either one might change the demographics enough to make a difference, after all the illegals can't legally vote.

Samtemdo8:

They're places averse to enforcement of immigration law. Literally what defines them is making enforcement of immigration law unnecessarily difficult.

lel... Release the migrants and asylum seekers to neighborhoods with champagne socialists and watch as Democratic approval ratings at these neighborhoods plummet while white flight hasn't fully changed the nature of the area... Show them who they are letting into their country and paying for their healthcare, education and benefits.

Releasing them to and keeping them in the sanctuary cities, in areas that are historically democratic, would contain the influence non-registered non-citizen voters can have on US general elections... Truly most of those states don't even have the most basic voter-ID laws... Maybe when the money runs out, they will realize that they've made a mistake of giving benefits that were meant for their families to complete strangers from a different country. Europeans still haven't figured that out.

Y'Know the Mexicans didn't want the Honduras migrant caravan, they called them ungrateful and entitled... Imagine that, would you accuse them of racism, since they are both mostly Mestizo...

What exactly is a champagne socialist? You realize many of these sanctuary cities are farm towns, rural, working and middle class... far from champagne anything. Prior to Trump, Obama was actually harsher on Illegal immigrants than Bush. Bush proposed granting them amnesty. Most of those who actually offer sanctuary and sponsor immigrants are Christians and happen to be Republican. You should understand with the history of the US, most of the US was colonized by Christian "missionaries" and these towns and cities are still heavily influenced by this. The issue of southern migration to the US is still a very divisive issue among the Republican party.

Suburban liberals and socialists. You can google it, as I have. I read about this term when I encountered a study about white flight in Chicago. Poltical views are directly tied to the neighborhood you live in (social-economic class, your neighbors, the community, services, etc.) Funny to know few people get their opinions off the Internets.

I think you may misunderstand a few things in terms of " voter ID laws" In the US, this primarily impacts older women, the poor and Native Americans. Due to traditional christian families in the US, many women did not work and did not drive and to this day we still have many elderly christian women who have never owned an ID of any kind. This is more prevalent in rural areas rather than cities. There are other issues as well, as some people have never been given an actual street address by a post office. Without an address, you cannot obtain an ID in the US, even if your family has resided there for thousands of years. This is also more prevalent in rural areas and on reservations. We actually still have people who live in rural areas that do not even have roads leading to their house to have mail delivered. This is the reality of the US, and you cannot simply take away their right to vote as that would be unconstitutional. The vast majority of the United States is rural and spread out. Where you come from and the realities of the US are very different things.

When you actually take a good look at who is actually offering sanctuary in the US, it is not the "champagne socialists" it is the working and middle class Christians who actually DO take them into their own homes, have built them their own homes and have been supporting them through their churches for decades. This is not anything new in the US, especially in regions like Texas that were formerly part of Mexico and heavily settled by missionaries. Most of the southwest United States actually used to be part of Mexico, and was originally settled much in the same way. Here deep in " Trump country" in the bible belt is where I see white, evangelical christian megachurch members taking in illegal immigrants into their homes, as I have seen happen during my childhood as well. This is not new, and has been a function of the evangelical churches here since their founding. Trump being elected does not change that and his harsh stance has actually been alienating some of his core supporters on that front.

Over half of evangelical leaders (53 percent) attend churches that have immigrant or refugee ministries, according to the November Evangelical Leaders Survey. Some of the ministries described include English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, welcome teams for refugee families, legal aid, and financial support for organizations that provide direct assistance.

https://www.nae.net/churches-host-immigrant-refugee-ministries/

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/04/18/who-has-bewitched-you-conservatives-alarmed-christian-students-protest-pence-speech/?noredirect=on

You should also understand that what may apply to Staten Island, does not apply to the rest of the US. Immigrants here do not have access to welfare or medicaid and have to work to survive. The only help they usually get is from Churches who are primarily Republican. This is also one of the highest immigration regions in North America, so this is not like it applies to a small amount of people. By targeting people who offer sanctuary, Trump is also targeting a good portion of his base.

EDIT: Considering THIS (Texas) is where the vast majority of immigrants have been being bused to from Guatemala, This is who will be most impacted by this.

So Trump is now going to start shipping Immigrants to two southern Florida Counties and offer no federal funding to accommodate them:

Broward, Palm Beach counties bracing for planeloads of immigrants from crowded U.S. camps

The Trump administration is preparing to move hundreds of migrants from overcrowded camps along the U.S. border to Broward and Palm Beach counties, local officials said Thursday.

Broward Mayor Mark Bogen and Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said they were told to expect about two planeloads of migrants each week, starting in about two weeks. The 270 weekly passengers ? about 1,000 each month ? would be split, with half going to Palm Beach County and half to Broward.

?I asked if there was an end date to this and they said no,? Bradshaw said in a news conference Thursday afternoon.

He said the number of migrants his county wants to accommodate is ?zero.? Both counties have significant homeless populations and full shelters.

?Every day we?re watching our border right here, which is the ocean," Bradshaw said. "We spend a lot of time to make sure people don?t come in to South Florida illegally.?

The news came as a surprise to local officials, who said they reached out to Florida?s two Republican senators, the Republican governor and other members of the federal delegation and were told no one had been advised by the Trump administration.

Late Thursday, Gov. Ron DeSantis still had made no public statement about the situation.

Bradshaw said the chief of the Miami border patrol office came up and told him earlier this week. Bogen said Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony also was advised by border patrol.

Sheriff Tony and the Broward Sheriff?s Office did not respond to inquiries Thursday about the possible influx.

The federal government would offer no money or help to house the people, officials said.

Bradshaw said he was told the migrants are families who came from El Paso. They do not face charges, and will be released after they?re processed by border patrol, he said. They?ll be given notices to appear at immigration hearings. It was unclear how the federal government would keep track of the people.

You know, to counter Trump's horrible plan, they really should pay to move them all to the greens at Mar A Lago and set up camp there, as he seems to have plenty of room since he doesn't think he should help with funding for this.

He probably wants to hire them. I cant think of any specific examples but its like in a comedy where someone takes all of something to 'dispose' of it but really is just stealing it for themselves.

But I think all golf courses should be used for immigrant housing. Fuck golf courses.

You might be right considering Mar A Lago is in Palm Beach, one of the first two cities he is sending them to and Trump is well known for hiring undocumented immigrants so it would not surprise me.
