DC to shut down Vertigo in 2020

Vertigo, DC's imprint for producing comics aimed at older audiences set both in and out of the DC universe, is going to close next year. Over the years, the imprint has published titles such as Neil Gaiman's Sandman, Matt Wagner and Steven T. Seagle's Sandman Mystery Theater, Warren Ellis's Transmetropolitan, and Alan Moore's V for Vendetta (After the original UK publisher axed the book it was in). Existing titles will be put under the DC Black Label imprint, but it's unclear at this point what kind of new titles will be published by Black Label in the future. Regardless, it's the end of an era.

An era in which Vertigo clearly didn't belong. In the golden age of indie comics, what's the fucking point of shackling yourself to DC anyway?

...yeah. Hadn't thought about it, but "why make indie comics owned by somebody else when you can self publish" makes a hell of a lot of sense these days.

Breaking News: DC comics discovers they've accidentally been publishing quality comic books. Seeks to rectify.

OT, after Hellblazer I have no faith in anything DC imports over from Vertigo

The kind of deal Image offers, where they charge a small fee for every unit printed and all other profits go to the creators, carries a level of risk that means it's not going to suit every creator, but the rest of the small press like Boom! will offer more traditional deals but with much more creative freedom and control over the work than DC would allow.

I didn't know Vertigo was still going. Did they cancel it then bring it back only to now cancel it again or something?
