Creepy story, could be true. Either way still cool.

Story i found while browsing the internets:

Source: http://www.fark.com/comments/3985541/45887207#c45887207

Story: I was driving a shortcut from Twentynine Palms, CA to Albuquerque, NM. Twentynine Palms is located in the desolate high desert east of LA. The shortcut was all two lane road through total nothingness, except for passing through Amboy, CA. Amboy is a nearly abandoned town nearly as far below sea level as Death Valley, with a dormant volcano and lava field on one side and a salt flat on the other. It was also, at the time, a hotspot for satanic group activity.

So I was driving by myself in the afternoon. I stopped in Amboy and snapped a picture of the city sign, just to prove I was there to friends who dared me to take that route to I-40. I got back in my car and proceeded to drive up into the mountain range between Amboy and I-40.

Once I reach the top I am driving north through a canyon with high grass on both sides of the road. Up ahead I see some stuff in the middle of the road. As I approach I slow down to see a red Pontiac Fiero stopped sideways across both lanes, a suitcase open with clothes scattered everywhere and two bodies laying face down in the road, a man and a woman.

I stop a hundred feet or so away and the hair on the back of my neck is standing up. Being a Marine, I reach under the seat and pull out a 9mm pistol and chamber a round. Something seemed very wrong, it looked too perfect as if it were staged. An ambush? Was I being paranoid? Something was just wrong. Getting out of the car seemed unthinkable, it was the horror movie move.

As I scanned the road I saw a line I could drive. Pass the guy in the road on his left, swerve to the right side of the woman, behind the Fiero and I'd be on the other side. I dropped it into first gear, punched it and drove the line I planned.

I passed the back of the Fierro without hitting it or either of the bodies in the road. I continued forward a couple hundred feet and slowed down so I could breathe and let my heart slow down. As I looked up into the rearview mirror I saw that the two bodies had gotten up to their knees and twenty or so people emerged from the tall grass on either side of the road by the car and bodies.

At that moment my right foot smashed the gas pedal to the floor and did not let up until I had to slowdown for the I-40 east onramp.

I will never know what would have happened to me had I gotten out of the car to check on the bodies or stopped my car closer to them. Somehow I do not think it would have been good. Sometimes real life can be scarier than a movie.

Nice story, pretty short.

Anyway, for discussion value, I say it's to post some maybe-true but scary stories. Here's a longer one that holds a special place in my heart: http://www.angelfire.com/trek/caver/page1.html

Sounds like it could be a Creepypasta attempt. Either way, I liked it.

I dunno if I believe that story, but holy cow was it entertaining.

And if it IS real? That man can probably shave a good year off his life expectancy. That sounds scary as hell.

This man is smart. No doubt about it. Only a moron or a horror movie character would have gotten out.

Exactly. There is no supernatural here. It could EASILY have been real. Good story all round :)

Plus mentioned the satanist thing at the beginning gave it a real "oh shit" reaction :)

Captcha : Hard and fast.

Oh rly?

I heard that story on the RT podcast yesterday and my reaction was simply this. That phenomenon has a name and has been documented. It's called Hills Have Eyes

This is indeed where i found the link :)

Thought i would share it here.

Just found this list of 10 horror films inspired by real events. The story that inspired Child's Play is creepy.

Why? He could have at least called the police. The longer the bodies stay there like that, the greater the chance that important evidence will be lost. The idea that the murderer is just hanging around the bodies waiting for the next victim is far more ridiculous. Something like that would only ever happen in a horror movie.

The story is good, kept me reading in the hope of a payoff. But it never came! most disappointing :(

Smart man. Sounds like a textbook ambush.

I always think The Hook is one of the most chilling short tales ever. Most people don't take it seriously since it's so well done, but if you really insert yourself into that story, it's freaking scary.

This is one of my favorite "could be real" stories. Now let me say right off the bat, I know this story is not real. It was a well written and well done short film, but I love showing this to people and watch their reactions out of the corner of my eye.

Even if you know it's fake (which...I guess you do 'cause I just ruined it for you...sorry) I seriously recommend watching it. It's a great video.

Does it just stop at Page 10? I can't seem to go any further.

EDIT: Damn it a cliff hanger >.>.

My exact reaction to this was "geez, almost sounds like the set up to a very detailed creepypasta"

Well, he comes across an apparently wrecked car and two bodies with signs of ambush. He's a Marine so he's got that "spideysense" we tend to develop and it just didn't feel right, especially since the area is known for trouble. It's a lot smarter for him to keep driving and call it in at the next phone he sees, or just get down the road a mile or two and use his cell if he has one.

And what the protagonist never mentions was the ninety different drugs he took that night and was later arrested on the account of this.

Don't you mean common sense? As far as I know, we don't exactly have a "Spidey Sense" that is accurate, in fact, its usually very in-accurate. I'm only saddened that he didn't automatically drop a Bonny-and-Clyde* reference.
*Woops, its not benny and clyde, its bonny and clyde.

Alright now this kind of story I like, it's to the point but with details. I don't know why but alot of creepypasta just seem's to bore me very quickly even as I know it takes time to built up a sense of dread in them. This one on the other hand I loved, short but sweet. :D

Great find there OP, you've earned yourself a cookie.

Sounds a bit too flashy and movie-esque to be considered legit. Still, that's some good creepypasta. It's really a breath of fresh air away from the "creepy little girl" cliche.

That is not fucking cool.

Once you've done some time in Iraq or Afghanistan or some really intense real-world training, you get a sense for when things just aren't right. I don't have it myself, but I know several Marines who have done multiple tours in Iraq, and one who fought in Fallujah and wouldn't hesitate to tell you that after a while you can feel when something's up. At any rate, you are right that common sense dictates you do not stop on a random road in the desert.

That creeped me the fuck out. Too bad I couldn't understand the text though.

OT: Probably fake, but has potential to be true and is still creepy.

I like the haunted Majora's Mask cartridge as my favorite scary story personally.

Did you read the part about the "bodies" getting up to their knees? If this is true I doubt those bodies were actually bodies, but a couple who were feigning injury in order to get him to stop and get out of his car and then he would most likely be robbed blind and maybe killed. Calling the police wouldn't really be helpful of this is true. There would be no evidence of their intended actions. This is the kind of thing that actually happens on occasions, so I wont dismiss it off-hand. It might not be plausible, but it's a good story either way.

That's cool, i don't need to sleep until tomorrow night. I'll just chill.

As for OPs story, seems just slightly too detailed to be legit. Could easily happen, however.

Yopaz:
robbed

Im not sure 20-30 people would get much out of one guy :|

Seemed much more likely it would have been one of these "satanist" groups like he mentions at the start.

Moral: Never help people! they are just as likely to stab you in the back! (slight sarcasm)

You'd be surprised at how desperate some people are. There have been several cases here where the chance of some quick money have led to people being gassed to death in their sleep on rest stops. However Satanic group could be a possibility too, however most suspicions of murderous Satanic groups have been proven false. Either way there's nothing in this story that strikes me as impossible, because as you said in an earlier post there's nothing supernatural involved.

Prepare to spend the entire night with the lights on.

I just instantly exited my browser. The buttons a lot larger. Im glad my headphones were in and not on my ears though.
Now im getting the feeling i havent had since i watched Scream when I was 8
I hate that feeling.

Good story. Constantly looking around the room now if a foreign noise is heard (I'm incredably paranoid). Maybe Bioware should hire these writers. >.>

I should probably stop wearing headphones.

Wait, so he saw what appeared to be a car crash with two people maybe dead maybe wounded in the road. And his reaction is not to get out and help or at least call the authorities? Instead, he keeps driving because 'that always ends badly in horror movies which As You Know mirror real life perfectly and also there's a scary local story'? Because it's a textbook ambush? Because those are really common in roads through the middle of nowhere in America, right?

Am I the only one here that sees something wrong with that? I mean I'm not saying that everyone's obligated to be a hero, but he basically saw a car accident and kept on truckin'. If the story is true, of course...
