Collective Nouns

I wish I still had my copy of Schott's Original Miscellany, it had some good ones.

A Kiss of vampires. Though everyone seems to use Coven (which is witches) for some reason.

I've seen Parliament used for Rooks too (the birds, not the chess pieces.)

Also, wouldn't it be a clan of ninja?

Also, wouldn't it be a clan of ninja?

Probably not, Clan would be an organised collection of Ninja but as far as I know there isn't a collective noun for Ninja at all.
So I'll go with PurpleRain's suggestion of "a mist of Ninja" and pretend that it's the correct term.

Collective nouns are really a waste of time linguistically, we need to learn from the Japanese and ditch them entirely. (Japanese doesn't even have singular forms let alone this mess).

Apparently it's 'throng.' A throng of ninja.

A rabble of butterflies (I like that, it's rather charming.)
A leap of leopards.
A murmuration of starlings.

How dare you sir. I'll have you know collective nouns are the height of linguisity!

You are a thicket of idiots (that is, if you were more than one person)

Here's some more my friend (I have friends) told me and I took the liberty of writing down, because for some reason I'm becomming osbessed with these things.

-A thirst of Irish
-A mob of Kangaroos (I've seen someone get kicked in the head by them, not pretty)
-A qwerty of keyboards (he might have been joking)
-A sack of kittens
-A montage of munters (apparently)
-A fleet of pigs
-A crash of rhinoceroses (spelling?)
-A disworship of Scots (apologies to any Scots)
-An Ugly of Walruses

edit: A throng eh? That doesn't sound anywhere near as awesome as a mist or hedge of Ninja...

A smack of jellyfish...

Who doesn't like a good smack?

I keep reading it as "snack" for some reason.

NewClassic:
Although, if all arbitrary words have collective noun precursors, I wonder what a group of sea sponges would be?

Strangely enough, it's a "ninja" of sponges.

I'm totally cereal, you guys.

And the best one so far has to be "a thirst of Irishmen".

a piteousness of pidgeons. Thats funny stuff.

HAHAHAHAHA wait

its a baffle of noobs.

The Iron Ninja:

Wouldn't that be rather unpleasant/ painful?

Most likely yes, I guess I just watch too much spongebob.

Ahem...Ninjas work alone. Ninjas working in groups is the end of the world.

On that thought, a bottle of pirates.

A barrel of monkeys.

An ARMY of frogs. And of course, they have a marching song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KW7oM772Yg

An awesome of LewsTherins.
A copse of Xhumeds
A crypt of Necroswansons
A griddle of FeNinjas
A cloud of Rains
An Ultra of Joes

*CHSSSS* I'm sorry Capt'n, but the creativity is out of pow'r! I'm givin' 'er all she's got!

A copse of mes? Am I a tree now? or did you mean corpse perhaps?

According to the Voltaire song "Vampire Club", the collective noun for Goths is "Gaggle", which is pleasingly alliterative.

A tower of me.

An Aurora of Polar Bears
A Harras of horses
A waddle of Penguins
An Audit of Book-keepers

un chingo de gente
como gatos y perros
mak-achi-pek <---- thats Maya XD

dont know thats some of the usual here :)

The Iron Ninja:

A blessing of Unicorns
(this one is serious, i didn't make this one up)

Well what do you know... it appears there are even collective nouns for things that don't exist. (apologies for ruining the dream to all those who beleived Unicorns do exist)

Man, I have a friend that would cry if she heard you say that.

An Orgy of students? Where?!?!

A shiver of sharks.

One of my faves.

A bunch of...random words. Who thinks this stuff up?
