This anime is not suited to those that can't handle strong violence, sex and violent sex. If these things put you off, turn away from the anime now. Not recommended for small children or big babies.
This anime starts off fair enough, we see our main protagonist, Rin, running for her life from an assassin. She's running across roof tops, being shot at and OH MY GOD! She got her hand shot off! Holy s**t! And... Holy... Did she just fall down... all those stories?! Oh, it's next morning? And she's fine? This anime drops you into the thick of it right from the get go, giving us the first view of our main character and posing questions for why we want to watch more.

The assassin Laura, Rin and Mimi.
This anime follows Rin Asogi, a PI with her partner Mimi. Together they take on cases, from finding lost cats to getting dark and gritty such as infiltrating Military bases. Oh, and they are immortal by the way. Yup, no dying for them. The plot revolves around them and their action adventure, while keeping an air of mystery never letting you in to all the answers straight away.
The best thing about the characters in Mnemosyne is that there isn't one wasted. They all serve a purpose and without one the anime would be lacking. It uses them to their fullest. Even Mimi, who does little more than sitting on the side lines, comes into her own and helps Rin out in big ways. It's also easy to feel for the characters emotions. Their attitudes and animations really portray in your mind what they are going through and what they might be feeling. The characters themselves are all unique. Rin makes a fantastic female lead being strong willed, sexy and mysterious. APOS, a great antagonist, evil and cunning, always doing random things according to his plan. Also kinda looked cute, but I took that WAAAAY back by the last episodes. I could not fault their characters.
The face of evil, the main antagonist APOS.
filling space ^^
The plot is one of Mnemosyne's strengths. The reason for this is because of all the questions it leaves you wanting answered. Why is Rin immortal? What are angels? Who is this main antagonist APOS? The plot gets rather thick, and a lot of stuff comes at you, but the anime tells it in very small, manageable chunks, leaving you satisfied with a good pace in the story and not overwhelming you. The way they tell it is also good. You learn about Rin for example from some of the phone calls she has and through occasional flashbacks from her long past. Even if you do get confused, don't worry. This anime clears everything up and with no loose ends. Everything gets answered eventually.
One of my favourite things about the plot is that although it revolves around the same few characters, the time changes dramatically. With this you can also see how the world changes in the anime and how characters change with age. The anime starts off in the late 1990's and ends quite a few decades later. It's interesting to see the future world as it develops as shown in this anime. For example, in the future the realities of the internet and the real world start to blend together, almost becoming one. It's a very interesting and imaginative look on the world. The only downside to the plot is the porn. I've seen a lot of porn in anime. Shota, loli, normal, and now violent torture porn. Some of this will put a lot of people off from the point of the plot, for example, sex is used to get information, rape, Angels have it a lot and quite a lot more.
Albeit for such a bloody anime, it really does have a great sense of humour though. Probably one of the best I've seen considering it's content.
Rin (left) the immortal vs Saya, the cybotic sadist. What? Not mad enough for you?
I'll just get this out the way. The music was the best in this anime that I think I've heard in years. The opening and ending songs are just fantastic and suit it perfectly. The anime's songs that play during the episodes are hardly noticeable but set the mood, tone and pace of each scene fantasticly. Top stuff. The animations are rather simple, but it portrays characters emotions well, the fight scenes are fluid. They're easy to follow and look realistic yet exciting at the same time.
Overall this has easily made it's way up my list of favourite anime and I will likely be praising it for a long time. It just engrossed me so well, kept me hooked, always wanting to find out what it was all about. The amount of sex although can be off putting, is also alluring when used with the story. Although even I at some point said to myself, "Did they really need to add sex here as well?"
Recommendation: a very brutal anime filled to the brim with blood and boobs. If you are not put off by that and want something a little different then this is definitely for you. Definitely worth a look and with it being only 6 (40 minute) episodes long it won't drag you on for ages. You might be more sucked into it than you think. I was.
I hope you liked the review. Comment, and share your own views of the anime. PS: Thanks Paradox for helping me with this.
