The Plucky Squire Is a Creative Storybook Adventure That Hops Between 2D & 3D Gameplay

As part of Devolver Digital’s Summer Game Fest 2022 showcase, the publisher announced The Plucky Squire, an imaginative storybook adventure game that switches between 2D and 3D gameplay, and it’s coming to PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S in 2023. This game is drop-dead gorgeous, flipping between art styles like pages in a pop-up adventure book. It’s being made by developer All Possible Futures and tells the story of Jot and his band of buddies as they embark on a quest that sees them exploring a whole new world. Gameplay in The Plucky Squire will have players solving puzzles, battling badgers, using a jetpack, and more as they hop between the game’s charming visual styles. Its story, detailed further on its Steam page, is simple:

When the malevolent Humgrump realizes he’s the villain of the book – destined to lose his battle against the forces of good for all eternity – he kicks the heroic Jot out of its pages and changes the story forever. Jot must face challenges, unlike anything he’s ever seen if he is to save his friends from Humgrump’s dark forces and restore the book’s happy ending.
