Guerrilla Games’ highly anticipated Horizon Forbidden West has been delayed to the first quarter of 2022 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, per reporting from Jason Schreier for Bloomberg.

This news follows uncertainty from Sony last month regarding Horizon Forbidden West’s release window. When the post-apocalyptic game was unveiled last year, fans were told to expect the game sometime in 2021. However, Sony Worldwide Studios head Hermen Hulst touched on the possibility of a delay in June: “For Horizon, we think we are on track to release this holiday season. But that isn’t quite certain yet, and we’re working as hard as we can to confirm that to you as soon as we can.”

This new Bloomberg report corroborates words from GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb, who mentioned he had heard of such a delay for Horizon Forbidden West while on his Giant Bomb podcast, GrubbSnax. Meanwhile, Guerrilla Games showcased a lengthy gameplay demonstration this past May, which showcased a new hang glider mechanic and also some gorgeous tropical environments. Underwater exploration will make its debut as well.

When Sony chooses to confirm this delay, it will mean Horizon Forbidden West will join PlayStation Studios’ God of War sequel for a release in 2022. Many major titles have been delayed to 2022 in the past few months, including Rainbow Six Extraction and Ghostwire: Tokyo.
