R. Kelly Reportedly Under Criminal Investigation After Lifetime Documentary

(CNN)R. Kelly could be facing an investigation in Georgia after the airing of a Lifetime documentary series that chronicled allegations of abuse, predatory behavior and pedophilia against the singer.

Gerald Griggs, an attorney for the family of Joycelyn Savage, one of the women featured in "Surviving R. Kelly," said the Fulton County District Attorney reached out to Griggs a few days ago, after the show aired.

Griggs said the Fulton County DA is conducting an investigation into Kelly.

Chris Hopper, the public information officer for the Fulton County DA, said he had "no comment" after being asked if there was an open investigation of Kelly in Georgia.

Griggs said he was asked to provide a list of witnesses in regards to events that allegedly took place in Kelly's house in the northern Atlanta suburb of Johns Creek in 2017.
CNN has reached out to Kelly's attorney, Brian Nix, for comment.

"Surviving R. Kelly" revived scrutiny of longstanding allegations against the R&B singer, who is originally from Chicago.

The six-part docuseries featured accounts from accusers and interviews with Kelly's close friends regarding his life and a host of allegations.

If this leads to him finally behind bars, good. Guess Weinstein and Cosby needed a documentary to get caught sooner.

Eh, I am not surprised at all.

When victims of abuse are so often scared and bullied into silence over history by our twisted fucking excuse of a patriarchy, should never underestimate the effect of them seeing others in their situation being not only listened to without prejudice, but given a voice and firm solidarity to inspire the confidence necessary to come forward without the usual weight of decades worth of conditioned despair telling them not to.

Judd's case against Weinstein has fallen through. I wouldn't bank on this turning up anything

Hasn't this been a thing for a pretty long time? I remember Boondocks doing an episode on it a really long time ago.

Yeah suddenly it feels like mid 2000's again. Weird that people are just becoming aware now, he's been doing this for decades.

Like with Cosby, or Weinstein, or Woody Allen or Jimmy Saville, or that Donald fellow.

Every time I hear about this story I am reminded of that Boondocks episode about the trial he was under for peeing on this girl. That was a good episode.

edit: Reading the rest of the replies, I seem to not be the only one haha.

I wonder if that episode would be met with anger if it was made now. Still think it was comedy gold though.

Eh, apparently a lot of people are not pleased with people making jokes about his pee fetish thing, and totally overshadowing the underage thing.

IIRC, Dave Chapelle made a joke song about that. He (Chapelle) was somewhat popular in Australia, but amongst the sort of people who think he was making fun of black people, not stereotypes of black people, which, again, IIRC, was something he found very disheartening.

If I am reading it all correctly, it isn't about people just realising this is a thing at all, it's about the documentary bringing forth more allegations from further potential victims who saw all these other victims being given actual credit in one space, with some allegations being much fresher in years also... prompting more investigation. Anyways, I'm not sure how the law works over there, but I am curious as to how he got off being caught with those child porn images in his possession last. Some twisted lawyer wizardry no doubt.
