Hi everyone. I've recently had an issue with my graphics card and was looking for some advice on probable cause before I feel the need to buy a new one. Basically, seemingly at random, my screen will suddenly freeze, then flicker black, and windows will pop up with something along the lines of "The Nvidia Driver Kernal 3.011 has ceased operation and successfully recovered." This occurred during game play of League of Legends, but it started before that and continued on while I was simply browsing with only the firefox window open. It got to the point it was doing it every few seconds, which lead up to a blue screen of death. I have a heavy suspicion on what it might be (overheating) but I'd like to hear other peoples words. Stats below. OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (6.1, build 7601) Display Driver stuff. I got the 8800 way back when it first came out to give an idea of the age, and I have had a motherboard fry out on me with it in there. I didn't install any drivers recently, or any new hardware. Thanks in advance.
Hi. It might be a driver issue, install the latest drivers using "clean install" from the driver's installation menu. It could probably be overheating, check your temps using CPUID Hardware Monitor or Speedfan. Safe operating temperatures on these cards are 90c if I remember correctly, but it really shouldn't reach anything above 75-80c. If the temps are indeed high use an air spray to remove dust from the fan (while the PC is turned off obviously).
Yeah, I have a pretty major problem: Or maybe the thing you insert the charger into is broken. System specs: Personal computer knowledge: Little to none.
Same thing happened to my old laptop, and I've seen another one that does that when I was in hardware class. It sounds to me like something is wrong with the charging port on your laptop. First thing I'd do would be to try a different charger that you know works and try it on your laptop. If that charger does the same thing then your charging port has either become disconnected from the motherboard or shorted out. While it is fixable it does require you to soldering. I would recommend trying to find someone near you like geek squad and have them take a look at it. If it is the charging port that can probably be fixed for a cheaper price than just buying a new laptop.
I recently bought a laptop and the battery lasts about an 1hr 40-50 minutes. The laptop is a "refurbished" model so it could simply be the battery is a little older but just in case, I was wondering if there was a particular brand/type of battery I could get to give me an extra 2 or 3 hours? The laptop in question is http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/refurbished-laptops/packard-bell-easynote-tm80-rb-020uk-refurbished-15-6-laptop-blue-07576488-pdt.html
Hi, | |
I wasn't sure where to post about this, but here seems reasonable enough. Just today I have not been able to see pages on The Escapist beyond the front page, clicking on threads or news articles just comes up with an empty page with some blue on it. This only happens on Firefox though which is kind of weird as Chrome seems to work fine (hence how I can post here). Chrome is my backup browser so I haven't really messed around with settings all that much, maybe that is why it is fine and FF has crapped out? I haven't noticed problems with other sites yet. Maybe I'm cursed!
You can always yell at kross here and they can help you. There seem to be a lot of glitches with the site recently, so it is most likely a technical issue.
So yeh, Ihave a very /prob lamatic /probalem... my keyboard is currently being com/pletely off he \watlls, ?Phas a s lah before it,sll sorry if it's illegible, my com/puter is sim/ply not \working.
Have you tried using a different keyboard? You know to check if it's your PC or yout board that's busted?
I Have a laptop, so this is pretty much my only keyboard. I don't have any other.
Bit of a late reply, I assume you checked the keyboard setting (it's not set to Chinese or something?). Since it's a laptop your options are a bit limited. You could still try to attach a separate keyboard, possibly clean it out or (and I hope this isn't the case) you'll need to get it replaced.
Don't Have it on chineze... And don't own a separate keyboard...
It's pretty clear that your keyboard may be faulty. There's not anything else you can really do except plugging in an external one, and since you don't own a keyboard you can try borrowing or buying one. I'm not sure what kind of technical advice you want from this thread.
Hello everyone Ive been having an issue with something i just cant find the answer too. Time of this report: 6/10/2013, 20:16:10 802.11n Wireless LAN card
Those kinds of system hangs can mean a lot of things, however if you are certain that the WiFi card causes it you should remove it for a while, uninstall it's drivers and see how it goes.
so, i'm running windows 7 home premium 64-bit on my desktop
I think that you will have better chances of solving your problem if you make a separate thread. Chances are I'm the only one visiting this one..
Hi, not a huge problem but I thought I'd ask for some advice. I've got a pretty decent rig I built myself, but most of my knowledge of computer parts is... limited. I (kind of) know what goes where and can get things working, but I couldn't tell you why it does it. So anyway, I've been thinking about upgrading to be ready for the new generation (And to finally play Skyrim in Ultra High), but I wasn't sure which parts I should replace or which are fine as they are. I'm hoping not to break the bank as well (No Titan graphics cards in my future, sad to say). Here are my specs, any suggestions? Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Deneb 45nm Technology RAM: 8.00GB Motherboard: AMD Corporation 970A-D3 (CPU 1) Graphics Card: 1024MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti (EVGA) Also I was wondering how I can tell the wattage for my power supply? I got it in 2008, so it could probably use swapping out.
Your PC looks pretty decent to me, how are you not able to play Skyrim at ultra? Anyways, you could get a 760 (when it's released) but I think it's a better idea to save your money and get a more substantial update in the future, such as an FX 8350 CPU as well.
Is there any way to turn off the autoplay option for videos on the Escapist?
I'm considering getting a new PC, like tomorrow, since mine is extremely bad. Has worked for me for a few years since I hardly played games on the PC except for MMOs that usually don't require much. The past few months I've migrated back to PC gaming, but I'm starting to tell it's not gonna last much longer. Been unable to play lots of games lately and will start FFXIV: ARR in a few days... and I don't even pass minimum. I'm completely clueless when it comes to computer specs. Have read lots of charts and located parts, and so far this one seems best for the price: Intel® Core i5-3350P Processor Another one is: Intel Core i5-3350P processor / 3.1 GHz Both cost 5500SEK(~$845) and is about as far as I'm ready to go. I got money, but I dislike wasting so much on a PC. >.< My current shit specs: Edit: Did some more checking and decided to go with the GeForce PC. It's worse than GTX 660, but a shitload cheaper and still four times better than my current card. I'm kind of convinced that they make the video cards complicated on purpose so the regular man won't understand shit.
Honestly both PCs are pretty shit for the money and not much of an improvement compared to what you have now. Try finding a shop which does custom builds, for $800 you can do sooo much better than that, take a look at this for example.
Actually decided to go a bit more expensive and took a return copy of a way better PC. Went from below minimum on FFXIV: ARR to flying past recomended like it's nothing(got my sexy GTX660). Have tried finding such sites in Sweden, but can't find anything like it. There was one I fiddled with and took the cheapest and middle options, for the important stuff. Final price came out at 11000SEK(so $1700 >.<). When this one starting to get a bit older I'll take a shot at upgrading it myself, or with the help of some store.
I just noticed Swedish prices on hardware are much higher compared to the rest of Europe :P. Oh well, now the pre-builts don't seem that bad after all. Good luck with your new system.
I apologize if this is in the wrong area, but can anyone recommend a good keyboard remapper? I've tried quite a few thus far, but they either don;t seem to work at all, or they require a full reboot to take effect. So far I've tried: Again, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong area. If it is, could someone please direct me to where it would be appropriate?
ok, hope i am right here. today i cleaned my CPU fan because it was dusty (and yes, i did switch off the power supply before disconnecting the cable). after building it in, connected all the cables like mouse, keyboard, etc, my pc doesnt start. nothing happens. no fans, no lights, nothing. i opened my case again to see if i accidentally ripped out an important plug or anything that is not connected. but thats not the case. the cable for the "turn on" switch is still in place so as everything else. i even tried a different power cable but this dint help either. so i tried only having the power cable connected. no mouse, monitor, etc, but with no avail. my pc is just over a year old. i build it together my self, which i have been doing for nearly 10 years. so i know what im doing. thanks
This might sound a bit silly, but did you remember to switch your PSU on?
yes, i did. | |
This is usually an issue of something not being plugged correctly. After you triple check every plug, try to run with just the bare essentials- CPU cooler, 1 stick of ram, no graphics card if you have internal graphics, mouse and keyboard.
thanks for the help, but i gave it to the shop and they figured out that the motherboard short circuited. i really dont know how this could have happened by just removing the fan but there it is. thanks again for help.
I has a serious problem, i can not get large pictures to display on my desktop at their original size centered or tile, it always squishes them smaller and makes vectors look like they were drawn by me in paint ASUS CG8250 ALSO please tell me that getting a keyboard with a USB connection will fix occasional the weirdass distortions of the mouse pointer and always unresponsiveness of the keyboard when i start computer until restart
Download and install the latest nvidia drivers. The 1152x864 might be the maximum resolution supported by your monitor. Honestly, it's such a waste of good hardware to play on ancient 17" CRT screens.
Yeah, i dont really have money for a good flat monitor, i know the port is for both mouse and keyboard, but i dont know how you put two cords in one hole?
Could this be a memory problem, i just changed virtual memory to about 20-50000mb from like 18k and the problems seem lessened
