To Jarrah's surprise, it seemed that the College had taken his size into account and provided him with a bed to match. As such he slept pretty soundly, almost enough to sleep through the announcement.
"ATTENTION ALL FRESHMAN, MEET IN THE GYM AT EIGHT THIRTY."
Groggily, the Yowie turned over and looked over at his bedside table. The blinking digits of 8:00 turning over to 8:01 snapped him awake pretty quickly, as did the knock on the door from Tomas. With a curse, he grabbed a handful of clothes from his bag (And added a mental note to unpack at some point) and crossed from his room to the bathroom.
By 8:24 he exited the dorm room, his long red hair all but dripping from his shower as he attempted to jog towards the gym and button up his shirt at the same time.
Kaylee looked over toward Sierra and nodded casually. After a moment or two, she scratched behind her head and typed up a quick message.
"Well... We don't really need to wait for 'em. We're all going to the same place after all..." Deciding that she'd talk to Ohka later, Kaylee got up.
"In fact... I'll just head over there now... See you there." She showed the half-demoness the message for a few moments before stowing her phone away and heading out of the dorm doors and off to the gym, hands in her pockets as she walked.
Maribelle came out, already dressed in a orange T-shirt and a long black skirt. Truely, she had gotten dressed the night before, when everyone fell asleep, and spent most of her time tinkering with her collection of items from home. She knew she wouldn't figure out what they did, just like last time...but it got her preoccupied as her dormmates slept. Finally, when the announcement came to meet up in the gym, she put all of her things back in place meticulously and walked out.
It seemed that everyone was already awake, so Mirabelle came out, bowed, and said, "Good morning. Did you all sleep well?", just as Kaylee left.
"Better then I have in a while actually" Sierra said as she turned toward Maribelle from her seated position, then looked at the clock "Welp, I think I'm head down to, some one should get Ohka moving so she's not late for what ever this is." she said as she got up and headed out the door.
If she didn't know the way, she'd still have had little issue finding the place, what with all the students funneling into he place or hanging about out side. For now she just made her way in side, found a spot against the wall she liked and just waiting for what ever this was to get started.
soon enough, there was a disc that shot through the door and embedded itself in the wall next to Alicia. Soon enough, she came out in a rather modest outfit, a loose t-shirt and a pair of shorts that lets her have freedom to move. "Don't joke about that stuff..." she said and decided to get bold and placed a quick kiss on Alicia's lips before running off towards the gym. "I slept well Maribelle, come on, time to go!" she said, grabbing Mari's wrist and tugging her along towards the gym. There was no real force applied upon the girl's body, she just sorta went along with Ohka as she was pulled.
"Um, okay? Bye, Alicia.", Mirabelle said as Ohka pulled her towards the gym. She was suprised at Ohka kissing Alicia and even more so at her grabbing and tugging Mirabelle herself. The girl didn't pull that hard but she went along with it nonetheless. After all, she was headed to the gym anyways so what reason was there to resist. She was just concerned with how she was dressed since, as far as she knew, everyone else was dressed in shorts and T-shirts while she was in a skirt. If it was a uniform then nobody told her...but she wouldn't stress it, after all, Ohka and Sierra didn't call her on it so it was probably fine.
Once they got to the gym though, Mirabelle's nerves came alight again. She didn't want to stand in the middle of this crowd of people but before she could resist, Ohka pulled her in. The best she could do then was to stick close to Ohka so she did and hoped that she would pick a good spot.
Alicia liked to think she was quick, but the kiss totally caught her off guard.
"Um, okay? Bye, Alicia."
"Yeah...um...bye..." She replied absent mindedly, still looking at Ohka's door. That was...unexpected. Worry about it later, assembly now! Right. She easily found her way to the gym, quickly spotting her dorm-mates as she arrived. Winding her way through the crowd, she slid in beside Ohka. "Very funny short stuff." She said quietly, leaning over to whisper in Ohka's ear. "Don't forget, you get to explain to the R.A. why there's a disk of fetish porn stuck in the wall."
With the others walking in, Kaylee looked back and gave everyone an absent-minded wave before she looked back to scan the crowds, sizing the people around her up. She definitely had a more predatory look in her eye as she swiveled her head slowly to watch everyone gathered around. ...Seems like I'm a little out of my league here...
The dense crowd around her seemed not to bother the raven haired mute as she continued to wait and watch.
"It's not a fetish porn, it's a cartoon with rather raunchy humor." she replied and soon a hush fell over the crowd gathered as the final people walked in. "LADIES, AND GENTLEMEN, I, Luther Maximus, AM THE HEAD OF THE ABILITY DEVELOPMENT CLASS. AND THE MALE DORMS." he shouted once more, keeping his booming voice.
"FOR ANY OF YOU SHRIMP NUGGETS, THAT THINK YOU CAN FIGHT. YOU'RE WONG. NOW WHO HAS THE CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES TO TRY AND PROVE ME WRONG?" he shouted, looking across the group of students gathered before him.
"It's not a fetish porn, it's a cartoon with rather raunchy humour."
"Suuure it is." She replied with a smile. Standing up, she waited to see what happened next.
"FOR ANY OF YOU SHRIMP NUGGETS THAT THINK YOU CAN FIGHT. YOU'RE WONG. NOW WHO HAS THE CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES TO TRY AND PROVE ME WRONG?"
Alicia couldn't help but grin a bit wolfishly. "Well, I've always been game for a challenge." She said to her companions, before beginning to make her way forward. Dressed in her usual tights, runners, and a tank top, she stepped on to the mats. I've taken down guys that big before...Remember what Dad said about assumptions and over confidence. Right. "I'm game." She said out loud, bowing slightly. "Mr. Maximus, my name is Alicia Mey Saefong." With that she dropped into a loose and ready fighting stance.
"FOR ANY OF YOU SHRIMP NUGGETS, THAT THINK YOU CAN FIGHT. YOU'RE WONG. NOW WHO HAS THE CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES TO TRY AND PROVE ME WRONG?"
Jack found himself standing next to Tomas when Luther yelled out something about chocolate truffles. After thinking about it, he asked Tomas "what is a chocolate truffle?"
Then he remembered that he said something about fighting. "wait... so we're going to fight each other? Oh what fun..." Jack finished in a rather sarcastic tone.
"PLEASURE TO MEET YOU Miss Saefong, BUT YOU WON'T BE FIGHTING ME!" he shouted and stepped to the side, behind him was a girl in what appeared to be monk robes, cloth around her head, covering her eyes with a bit of blood on them. The girl dropped the robes and underneath was a sports bra, training shorts and bandages on her forearms and hands. Her body was extremely well toned and she stood maybe five six.
She took up a tight fighting stance, one that alica wasn't too familiar with. She had one hand forward, palm up, with the other behind her back in a spread stance. It was rather obvious that she couldn't see, but the girl seemed to have no issues moving or getting into position. "I will be your opponent. My name is Akasumi." she said, her accent sounding weird and unlike anything she had ever heard before.
Luther stood off to the side and held his hand high in the air. "FIGHT!" he shouted and moved his hand down, signaling the start of the match.
Kaylee looked the scene over, raising an eyebrow once Alicia came up to bat. The eyebrow ended up getting raised higher as the hulking teacher walked off to the side and Akasumi stepped up, taking some awkward looking stance. Seeing this and not exactly having anything else to do, the mute decided to simply watch and wait. ...Let's see what you've got, Alicia...
Warning bells rang off in Mirabelle's head as Alicia stepped up to the mat and took up Maximus's challenge. To her, it felt like he was baiting someone in order to make an example out of them...and Alicia volunteered for it.
With the reveal of Akasumi...her nerves were even more on edge. Call her overcautious, but she didn't think that Maximus was an idiot (after all, he was a teacher), let alone stupid enough to throw a blind girl into a situation that he thought she couldn't handle. Still, she felt a bit better about Alicia's chances and hoped that she would win.
Cute trick... Alicia thought as she saw her actual opponent; she moved way to smoothly for her to actually be blind. Akasumi's stance did cause Alicia to raise a mental eyebrow thought. Now that is a stance I've never seen before. That alone was reason enough to keep very alert.
She stood perfectly motionless for a moment or two, trying to read her opponent, before making the first move. When in doubt, do the unexpected. Shifting her weight almost imperceptibly, she exploded forward with what looked to be a powerful right jab, only to snap out suddenly with her left, and hit the other girl with a forceful open-palmed slap to the face. Shifting again, she brought her right knee up for a shot to the abdomen.
With the feeling of contact causing Alicia to go through with her fighting techniques, there was atleast an inch of room between alicia and her opponent at all times, never actually making contact with akasumi.
This giving Akasumi the chance to move and surprise Alicia with a low leg sweep, moving extremely quick as if there was never friction to begin with. She then bought her swinging leg full circle an as a knee into Alica's back and moving her up into the air. With a hard fist directly to Alicia's spine, she connect and sent the girl flying across and tumbling to the edge of the mat before taking up her stance again.
Sierra was watching from the back, the 'teachers' bellowing coming off as nothing more then a means to goads some one into a fight, a trap if you will, one Alicia walked right into. "Alicia!! You do know this whole match is a set up right? Meant to make an example of who ever excepted the challenge." She shouted from her leaned back position against the wall as this 'blind girl laid her room mate out.
Alicia rolled to her feet and mimed dusting herself off. "Not bad." She said called out. She was sore, sure, but she'd been knocked around worse sparring for fun with her dad.
"Alicia!! You do know this whole match is a set up right? Meant to make an example of who ever accepted the challenge."
Dropping out of her fighting stance she looked over at Sierra. "No shit, I just didn't think they'd bitch out and stack the deck so much." Turning her attention to the teacher, she gave him a rather sarcastic round of applause. "Congrats, pit a first year against an opponent she has no chance of beating..." What kind of sad-sack place pulls bullshit like this? She thought as she walked back towards Kaylee and Ohka. With everything her father, and her instructors, had taught her, a stunt like this just felt insulting.
"I APPRECIATE YOUR VOLUNTEERING Miss Saefong. ANYONE WHO WOULD HAVE STEPPED UP, WOULD HAVE FAILED AS WELL!" he said, addressing Alicia as well as the crowd.
"akasumi HERE, IS A FOURTH YEAR STUDENT AND AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT YOU CAN BECOME IF YOU TRY IN THIS SCHOOL. SHE APPLIED HER ABILITIES OF MANIPULATING AND UNDERSTANDING VIBRATIONS IN THE AIR TO PREDICT HER OPPONENT'S MOVEMENTS AND TRICK THEM INTO A FALSE SENSE OF SUCCESSFUL CONTACT. THEN SHE STRIKES WHEN MOST OPERTUNE!" he bellowed over the students. The giant then gestured for Akasumi to take a leave. She nodded and walked over to Alica's general area.
"I would like to say you have more skill than most of my own classmen.I wasn't able to dodge your first two strike and had to block them. I would like to fight once more when you have better controls of your skills." Akasumi said and gave a deep bow before collecting her robes and taking off to the showers.
Then Luther walked into the middle of the mat. "YOU SHALL BE EITHER SPARRING TO TRAIN YOUR ABILITIES OR GOING PRACTICING CONTROLLING THEM ON TARGETS OR DUMMIES. THE HIDDEN WORLD IS A HARSH PLACE, THE NORMALS EVEN HARSHER AS THERE ARE PEOPLE DEDICATED TO RUINING OUR WAY OF LIFE." He said and began to pace back and forth. "YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISCUSSING YOUR ABILITIES WITH YOUR ROOM MATES OVER THE PAST 24 HOURS. PLEASE FIND SPACE IN THIS MASSIVE GYM TO PRACTICE WITH THEM VIA SPARRING OR TRAINING. THIS CLASS SHALL BE EVERY OTHER DAY, SPLITTING THE GROUPS INTO HALF OF THE MALE AND FEMALE DORM FOR DAY ONE-ERS AND THE REST FOR DAY TWO-ERS. NOW GET TO IT DAY ONE-ERS!" he shouted out and half the group began to leave to head somewhere else. Luther himself head over to a plexi-glassed in area of the gym with "gravity training" hanging over it and waited for people to approach him.
(all of the pc's are day ones)
Sierra just rolled her eyes at what just happened, throwing a first year against a fourth year to prove a point was bullshit by any standard.
The she heard a male chuckle beside her "I know pits in the demon realm that show more 'respect' for their fighters then this" he said, though only loud enough for her to hear. He was dressed in a fairly nice black suit, with a white and matching fedora with an embroidering of a viper on it where the band would have been. From what she could see he also had green hair and gold eyes, like hers in her demon form, but no black.
"And you are?" she asked in the same volume of voice he'd used with her.
"You may call me Seth. I am a" he paused a moment "Friend I suppose would be the word, of Karis"
"You suppose?" She rolled her eyes "We should take this outside, I'd rather not wreck a building on my first day here" Seth chuckled "I've not come to fight you my dear, only to warn you." Sierra gave him a funny look, as if she wasn't sure to trust him or not. "The demon king who seeks you head has been forced to ignore you for the time being, others are seeking his lands due to his inability to kill you, a mere half breed despite a rather determined effort." He said before moving in front of her "That said, remain on your guard, his witch, Versammlung der Hexen. It is unlikely she will let you roam unchecked while her king is distracted"
"And you care what happens to me, why?" Sierra asked, genuinely curious as to this demons stake in this "In time, you will understand, for now, just focus on staying alive long enough to reclaim what is rightfully yours." Seth said, then 'shattered' into a bunch of vipers that then slithered away and faded from sight, and totally unnoticed at that.
Luckly, Jarrah had managed to get to the hall before Maximus gave his challange, which was accepted by a girl who Jarrah recognised as one of the group that he (and much of the school) had seen yesterday wearing a flower print dress. Despite being at the back of the crowd, his height meant he had a comfortable view to watch the (extremely one sided) fight between the two girls.
"NOW GET TO IT DAY ONE-ERS!"
After another, slightly longer, speech by the Head of the Ability Development Class, Jarrah made his way over to where all the 'Day One-ers' were gathering and he somehow found himself beside the girl, Alicia.
"Hey," He started, bending a little to keep his voice low, "If it's any consolation, I don't think there's anyone here that doesn't think that wasn't a completely dog move putting you up against that fourth year chick."
Kaylee sighed to herself as she watched Alicia get thrown around like a ragdoll by the blind girl. Jeez, this isn't even fun to watch... Guess those crazies you see in kung-fu movies exist in this hidden whatever... Great. As Alicia walked back, the mute gave her a casual wave and a bit of a sympathetic look before Maximus called out for the groups to split up. Keeping her hands to her pockets, she walked over to her assigned side of the gym and resigned to look people over, not looking all that interested in getting into fighting just yet.
"I would like to say you have more skill than most of my own classmen. I wasn't able to dodge your first two strikes and had to block them. I would like to fight once more when you have better controls of your skills."
"I look forward to a rematch then." Alicia replied, as pleasantly as she could. And if you hand any decency you'd have stayed out of that staged bullshit. Pushing the resentment aside, she was about to see if Kaylee or Sierra were up for a bit of sparring to warm-up, when the biggest guy she'd even seen came over.
"Hey, if it's any consolation, I don't think there's anyone here that doesn't think that wasn't a completely dog move putting you up against that fourth year chick."
"Yeah well it seems you can't escape that school-yard shit even in collage." She replied with a chuckle; sticking her hand out, she smiled. "Alicia...but if you call me 'Ally' I may have to hurt you..." Okay...damn, and I thought Vasily was a big bastard.
Thankfully, Alicia came back from the fight, seeming none the worse for ware...though she did seem angry at the fact that she had been placed against a higher skilled opponent. Mirabelle didn't understand why she was angry, especially since she said that she knew it was a set up to begin with and still voluntarily went through with it, but she decided to chalk it up to personal reasons. After all, if it still bothered her, Mirabelle was certain she and the others would hear about it later. She seemed to be involved with a conversation with a giant of a man right now anyways, so she didn't want to jump in and interupt that for something that probably wasn't that important. For now, she focused on who she would choose for a partner, if she could find one at all.
She looked at Ohka, remembering that she could nullify Mirabelle's punches, absorbing the kinetic energy. As far as she knew, that could prove to be a good challenge for both of them...assuming that she had ever been in a fight before...and if she could use that electrical energy to attack someone with, remembering yesterday and her fears of it. Still, it was just a bit of sparring, she didn't think that it would come to that.
"Hey, Ohka? Have you find a partner yet?"
"what is a chocolate truffle?"Which then Jack added "wait... so we're going to fight each other? Oh what fun..."
Tomas heard Jack ask as he gave a short reply. "It a sort of candy. Hard to explain since you don't seem to know what Chocolate is. Also yeah..it just a fight to show how well they train their students..To aspire us to be like them." Shaking his head as the fight ended with Alicia losing.
Afterwards he listen to Luther orders, even if he thought for sure he would go deaf from all the yelling, and was heading towards Transformation until he saw Jarrah talking with the girl who lost. Heading towards them to hopefully get to him before any of the teachers saw and break a blood vessel, especially Luther.
"Good to see you awake Jarrah." Tomas said as he look at both of them. "I thought for sure you would be missing your first day here, glad to see that I was wrong. And hello Miss Saefong. I hope you didn't get to hurt during that fight."
Jack had no reason to eat food. Thus he never bothered learning about it. It was information he might enjoy knowing but compared to all the information he could learn, it just wasn't high on his list.
After Tomas had left him to go see Jarrah, he stood there awkwardly for a moment. He didn't trust most of the people here... well monsters and people. He sighed to himself as he took another glance around. He spotted the other first year from yesterday. She still gave off that strange 'aura' as he liked to call it.
He didn't really care at the moment and quickly looked away. He would have to get a partner or find a dummy. That's when he started thinking about the fourth year that Alicia had fought. She was apparently blind but she could sense the vibrations in the air and even manipulate it to trick her target into thinking they got a hit. Even in his human form he could manipulate the shadows around him and thought about a way to beat her.
He could use his shadow abilities to literally manipulate the shadows around her to make her think he was in multiple places at once. It wouldn't fool a person that had sight but to someone who only felt with the vibrations he could easily trick that. There was the fact that he wasn't a strong close range fighter. He'd still probably loose but he at least wanted to see if his shadows would work.
But that was for another time, now he would go find a partner or dummy to practice with/on. He wouldn't challenge Tomas... the half dragon would beat him for sure. Whether they were allowed to transform or not. Jarrah would be a better pick for him but he would rather not fight him yet. All the other students were unknowns so he didn't know who to pick.
He sighed to himself and looked around saying to himself "it's gonna be a long day..."
Sierra stayed on the wall, lost in though as to weather or not she should trust what the snake demon just told her, more or less ignoring the gym condensing into groups to effectively beat the shit out of each other, something she wanted no real part of, she was there, and that was as far as she was really willing to go with it.
So she stayed where she was, and just watched.
"Alicia...but if you call me 'Ally' I may have to hurt you..."
Jarrah chuckled as he shook her hand. "I wouldn't dream of it. Name's Jarrah, nice to meet you Alicia."
"Good to see you awake Jarrah. I thought for sure you would be missing your first day here, glad to see that I was wrong. And hello Miss Saefong. I hope you didn't get to hurt during that fight."
Jarrah turned to Tomas and shrugged his shoulders. "I can be slack, but I'm not that slack." He said, "So, either of you have any idea who you'll be sparring with?"
"I wouldn't dream of it. Name's Jarrah, nice to meet you Alicia."
"Good to meet you too, Jarrah." She replied. "Gotta say...damn you're big. I thought I knew some big guys back home, but hell, you got at least a foot on any of them."
"Good to see you awake Jarrah. I thought for sure you would be missing your first day here, glad to see that I was wrong. And hello Miss Saefong. I hope you didn't get to hurt during that fight."
Alicia chuckled as the new arrival spoke. "Please." She said finally. "Call me Alicia...'Miss Saefong' is entirely to formal." Putting her hand behind her back, she began to stretch. "Don't mind me..." She said, as she bent over backwards. "Thanks for your concern, but I'm fine...I've been smacked around harder, and for longer, by my dad."
"So, either of you have any idea who you'll be sparring with?"
"No, not yet." She answered, her head almost level with her ass.
With people slowly and surely getting into fighting, Kaylee decided to seat herself down near a wall and watched some of the fights go down, taking some notes of people's styles, be it more practiced or others simply swinging away like their lives depended on it. After a few moments, the fact that the early alarm and the little escapade with Ohka began to show its mark as she yawned silently. Shrugging to herself, she crossed her arms over her chest and drifted off to sleep, sitting upright all the while.
"Not at the moment, i guess we could be partners Mirabelle. How can i assist you? i'm not one to fight, i don't like it..." replied ohka, looking at her and with a soft blush. It was odd to admit she didn't like fighting, but she wasn't against helping friends however she could. "Sorry i'm not much use... I just have never liked real fighting... i'll play all the extremely violent fighting games in the world, but i get squeamish in real life..."
"Gotta say...damn you're big. I thought I knew some big guys back home, but hell, you got at least a foot on any of them."
"Yea well, I guess being a supposedly mythical creature helps a little in that...regard." Jarrah said, trailing off as he noticed Alicia's, well, impressive display of flexibility, so much so that he completely missed her comment on her father. Unable to decide on an appropriate spot to rest his gaze, Jarrah looked up at Tomas and tried to catch the half-dragon's own.
"Oh, ok. I was just asking cause i know you can take hits without recieving any damage so i was thinking that we could fight without me accidentally hurting you. If you don't want to fight though, then that's ok. I think i can find someone else around, if you don't." Mirabelle said, not wanting to force Ohka into anything she didn't want to do. She didn't really want to fight either but she figured that now was the best time to do so so as to improve her skills. Better now than in a dangerous situation after all.
"Call me Alicia...'Miss Saefong' is entirely to formal."
Tomas nods as he added "Very well Alicia. And I would assume your father is the one who train you how to fight like that." Adding as he heard her comment about her father. Not wanting to make a rude comment towards her family if he read the situation wrong.
While he watch her and waited for a answer, he notice in the corner in his eye that Jarrah kept looking towards him. Wondering what that was about as he push it out of his mind for now. "So Alicia, know anyone who might be a good sparring partner? Unless you are free of course."
Chuckling at Jarrha's comment, she straightened up, and was about the ask just what he was, when his friend spoke up, asking if she'd been taught by her dad. "Yeah, my dad runs a Krav Maga gym back home." She replied with a bit of a laugh. "A Thai man teaching a Jewish martial art to mostly Chinese and East-Indian clients..."
"So Alicia, know anyone who might be a good sparring partner? Unless you are free of course."
"Oh I'm game, but you have me at a disadvantage...you know my name, but I don't know yours." She replied, with a wolfish grin. Moving into a warp-up routine, she took stock of her 'opponent'. While not as tall as Jarrah, he was still fairly tall, and like most of the students it seemed, quite fit. "So," She said, one hand bursting into flame. "Do we want to do this with everything we've got, or keep it purely physical?"
