Review: Fable 3

Fable 3 seemed much shorter and easier than Fable 2 to me. The actors that portrayed the characters made the game worthwhile and story was truly superb though kinda outlandish...(weird alien invasion force bent on om-nomming your soul) It's like I heard somewhere before. Nevertheless this game was a pleasant experience.

Too bad Americans get to play this game earlier than us. We can only do so on Friday. It's fucking insane considering Lionhead is stationed in the UK - Europe. But I bet Microsoft has to do with this, but we have Fable III: Kingmaker app.

Susan, this one is for you. How easy is it to make money in this game? I am using the Kingmaker App to generate good amount of gold before I hit the game but money-making in Fable II was so tedious that I resorted to the rent cheat/glitch to enjoy the game.

So are the jobs satifsying and entertaining to do? Does Questing generate money as well? Please let me know, because that's the only negative aspect of Fable that irks me.

Ah, I'm glad you brought this up. It is ungodly easy to make loads of money in Fable 3, so long as you're willing to put in a little effort. Start off with a job, then upgrade that job on the Road to Rule. That will earn you more money for every task you complete - every sword you make as a blacksmith, for example. Once you've got a bit of cash from that, start buying up real estate and watch the cash roll in. You'll have to keep houses in good repair, which costs money, and you need to spend guild seals to unlock the Landlord and Entrepreneur bundles, which let you buy houses and businesses, but it's a sure thing.

What I hated with the whole money gathering was that even though I did what was asked of me as a ''good'' king I did and I still was feared and hated. Why? Because I set the rent to high which is +1 to normal. Pure logic dictates that when you live in luxury and everything is beyond hunky-dorey you set the rent, charging fees appropiately. Ungrateful peasants to be honest:)

You have loads of chances to receive high amounts of gold which should be invested in buying and renting buildings. So you don't have to ''work'' per say to get rich.

Not this time Pete.

You fooled me twice, but I am not falling for your shenanigans a third time.

.................................

Do'h, why did LBP 2 have to be delayed? I need my "new game" fix.

Spent almost all last night playing it after midnight release. I did notice a little bugginess but it was nothing game-breaking for me. It's weird actually like, warping to your sanctuary to swap weapons and such, but sometimes depending on what I'm doing I feel like I could have gotten to a particular weapon or clothing faster in a menu. At least the sanctuary has no load time - it's pretty much instantaneous.

Why do I never have any money when all the good games come out?!

Alright picked up the game today, haven't played much due to school obligations, but there is one thing I noticed right off the bat. We have a voiced protagonist this round and that just surprised me at first. I'm liking it so far, hope that's an indication on a good game overall

"Many of these are the same problems that plagued Fable 2"

Funny.I bought Fable 2 on launch day and never encountered any of these bugs you mentioned and I played through the game multiple times

Anyway looking forward to this.Got the Collector's Edition pre-ordered so roll on Friday

Sounds like I got to buy fable two if I want to make use of that whole descendent perk thing. I've always wanted to buy the fable games so I think i'll wait till this game gets afforadable and I am buying it. Yahtzee is going to review it but he will probably like it as much as he liked the other two which wasn't by very much.

But if you´re name happens to be Beeblebrox, you would be able to wear 2 chicken helmets and kill your enemies by making them feel like their brains were being smashed with lemon wrapped around a gold bar

My friend is like a badly trained parrot, he always talks about the new fable III...now i know why.

I loved Fable 1 but could never play Fable 2 because I don't own a xbox360. So I'm really happy that it's going to be released for the PC aswell and if it's as fun as Fable 1, I won't regret buying it.

An improvement over Fable 2 it seems. Nice.

The biggest turn off in Fable 2 for me was the story/atmosphere/npcs. NPCS/milieu seem to have similar problems as before (according to IGN's review). With that said, Fable 3 looks like it deserves a chance for sure. Let's see if Fable 1 can get topped!

hope this arrives in the morning, looking forward to this all year!

I want it for PC now!!!!

Cmo'n Lionhead I'm counting on you guys!

If you use hammers you bulk up a bit but not to the HULK SMASH extent that was in fable 2

Meh. I'm not gonna play this unless my brother borrows it from one of his friends, and even then, I probably won't play much of it. The first Fable was fun, sure, but not memorable, for me, in the least. All I remember of it was the ending pissing me off for some reason. Fable II bored me to the point of apathy. I didn't even decide it was pissing me off too much to play anymore. I just drifted off into other games. Which is the worst thing that could be said of a work of art.

Also, Susan, epic Hitchhiker's reference.

You know I might just now start playing this game serious just because of the magic
Is-Is that lightning shooting out fire waves?

Perfect. Sounds how I like it. Shouldn't be too much trouble, already send my girlfriend her merry way to already gather some kind of revenue/income so we can just own stores/rent houses together to make sure we don't get shafted when the King section is popping up, I heard it can cause alot of ruckus when you go into it without money on your own.

But glad to hear this and appreciated for the feedback!

So does this one also have the 360 view of the falling piece of bird crap?

Seriously, I'm gonna wait on this one. Fable 2 was good enough reason to blackball Molyneux for life.

Literally got my copy five minutes ago! Once I've finished eating some grub I'm going to sit down and enjoy me some Fable III.

Stoked to hear (read) that Susan's given it a 4/5. ^^

Hmmm. I read another review that said that if your character hasn't accrued enough money by a certain part of the main storyline then you can't continue on with the main story. Can anyone confirm/deny?

GRRR Why must I wait for the PC version?!!!?! I want to play this NOW!

How is having the sanctuary any more intuitive, easier, or less time consuming than the pause menu? I read that and said "Oh great, now I have to walk just to change my clothes"

But Fable 2 was already MUCH shorter and easier than Fable.... Are there fewer boss fights as well? The lack of real bosses (no, the fucking golems don't count, the golems were colour swappable filler) was the most disappointing aspect about Fable 2 for me, which didn't help the greater repetition, the empty ending and the fewer real challenges.

Great and funny review, I'm picking my limited edition Fable 3 up at the post office tomorrow along with my limited edition Star Wars: Force Unleashed 2.

I'm very tempted to call bull, on this. But since I haven't played it yet. How have you played the whole game already. It came out only 12-13 hours before your post. If you actually did, I would guess that you played the game straight through without doing any side quests or anything.

I easily put 30 or more hours into Fable 2, before I even beat it, then got at least 40 more to finish up most of the achievements, and I haven't done a second or third play through like most of my friends, and they did the same thing I did with all their play throughs, so that is about 200 hours. So I highly doubt you did anything more than the main story, which in my opinion is not really playing the whole game. What makes Fable, Fable, is the world and experiencing and living in it.

I don't get people that just play the main story of the game and that's it. The reason you came out disappointed with the length is that you didn't play the whole experience; if that is the case, it isn't the game makers fault.

I'm going to keep an open mind, I just bet I will get just as much game play as I did with Fable 2.

Don't worry, I highly doubt he played the whole game. Think, the game only came out 12-13 hours before he made the post. It's obvious he just did the story. It is his fault for just doing the main story and not doing any side missions.

Well if you actually wanna know I played the pirated version which came out on the 24th...It took me 24 hours to finish it:)

lol, Pirated. That won't end well for you here if it is true. But in reality, I smell a troll.

If you did play, then your 24 will be 40 at least for me.

ZOMG because America didn't have it he mustn't have played it!

For once Australians didn't get shafted and we've had it longer than you think. Of course, normally we get it 2-3 months after but oh no the bloody UK sooks have to complain they get it a week after. Boo hoo!

Since America did get it first, that is why I questioned the 12 hours. That really isn't what I was getting at. Now that he said he had a pirated copy, I lose all respect for him. Pirates have to be stopped.

Did you ever think that possibly in my country an xbox game is worth a whole months salary?I'm not going to throw my money away to buy something I'm not sure of wanting.I'm not being a troll so please don't start with the insults.I mainly said my opinion about the game and how I finished it.If you don't wanna believe me that's your problem.:)

Sorry I implied you were a troll. But my stance on the matter still remains about pirating. It is actually one of the reason games get more and more expensive. It is also the reason game companies put more and more DRM on PC games to try and foil pirates, which in-turn makes them more expensive.

Yes I feel sorry for you that that a game in your country would set you back that much money, but you have to consider the ramifications that pirating has on the industry.

Yes it isn't as bad in the US, but at my old job a few years ago, the cost of one game these days, would be at least a 5th of a months pay, but then I have to factor in loads of other expenses, I still have to decide what games I will get in a year.

A great year, like this year: 4 games
A good year 2
A bad year: 1

1 game a year is usually because I get money from relatives on holidays.

You can blaze through Fable 2 and all it's side missions first try in a hell of a lot less time as the 1st Fable. Hell the main story in Fable 2 could be completed in a very short amount of time (a lot less than 11-12 hours) if you played the first and the actual interesting side-quests of Fable 2 had obvious tells. So I will not call shenanigans on the amount of play unless the poster admits to it.

And this is all assuming that the official release date stopped legal or illegal shenanigans from occurring.

Edit: So... yeah. Eh-hem since I responded before seeing swoosh's responses I will add: is it really that bloody short swoosh? But more importantly is it better in the bosses and characters department like Fable one?

My problem is that I played Fable 2 before Fable 1. I tried to play Fable 1 but for some reason, I couldn't get into it. But that was mostly in part because I downloaded it off of the Xbox live marketplace. It had the glitchest save system. I would play for a couple hours, save, and then when I would come back, it would be the save that came before the latest save. So, I had to save many many times, so I at least only had to redo only 10 minutes or so of what I had done last time. If I find the time, will go back and try and actually beat it.
