Tales from the Table: Chapter 1: A Tale of Goblin Warriors

Shit balls, man. If my players were that original, I'd let em fucking do it. I've given them dozens of original pieces of weird, eldritch, and generally balls crazy loot with fucking BACKSTORIES and they sell them.

"Nah, man. I don't want this Searing Sword of Flame. I need a two handed weapon. Oh, the hilt extends. That's cool, but this claymore is +6. Yeah, I know yours is a +4 and deals an additional 2d6 damage plus 1d6 per turn on crit. It's cool, but it's not a +6."

"Oh, a bracer that procedurally generates +2 throwing knives. That's cool. Unlimited ammo is cool. It's gotta be worth a fortune, right? Priceless? Man, that means it's crap, right? No? Oh, that's cool. Maybe I'll buy the weapon shop back in town, then. Constant revenue stream? No way, man. I just want a place full of gear!"

"Mage Bane Cossbow? That's a cool name. Why's it say it's a +5 spear? Oh, turn it over. Oh! It uses the blood of magic users to fuel it's crossbow powers! It can add elemental effects if I level it up? How do I do that? Oh, so the more people I kill with it, the stronger it becomes. That's really cool, man. So...how much is it worth? 15,000,000 gold?! WOW! Oh..no store in the world has anywhere near that amount of money? So...who do I sell it to? The king of Daa'rk-N'ss? Sweet."

Actually, that last one was the last straw. 3 sessions later, they were all murdered by the King of Darkness with his godlike powers.

"Hey, what the fuck man? How'd he hit me for 50d6?! That's crazy! He's not even on the map! Lightning bolt? From the sky?! How's that work? That crossbow didn't do that shit when we had it! So what if he leveled it up? You didn't tell us it could do that! You fucking cheated!"

I lol'd, a hilarious episode, made me remember the wilder days of gaming, when sometimes, everyone went batshit insane.

And the DM playing a woman caught me off guard. Well played, sir.

Ah that was actually quite funny to watch, what with the actual game part being acted, and it being more "scripted" than just watching a game of dnd, ala "I hit with my axe".

Meh not really into it...it just seems like its trying to hard to be the gamers...and failing.

it's not a lazer sword, it's a syonic spirit blade.

3:44 minutes on bi-weekly basis?

I'm sorry but that's... Well that's quite a little amount of content don't you think?

agreed and its not a robot its a metal golem :-)

jonyboy13:
ROFL the robot just cracked me up.
GREAT show and episode, really look forward the next one.
This show is officially #1 on my Escapist list (yes, even better than Yahtzee).

Blasphemy.

Well, the last few shows were quite mehish.

Love the costumes, effects and the show is hilarious!

funny

but it needs a story line or it will get old very fast...

this episode made me laugh quite a bit, actually seems really good so far and I hope to see more of this hopefully to be great series. Keep up the good work :D

Shooting my laser sword out of my bow?

ARE YOU MAD!!!

you have to roll 2 20-sided dice for that!

High production values. Pretty fun to watch.

I do wonder where you will go with the story and characters. So far, each character has only demonstrated to some part of stupidity, which is not something people are going to identify with. I hope next time we will see them, the characters can come up with some cool (if perhaps implausible/convoluted) plans. Even more cool if the plans go wrong, because they work too well. :)

Looking forward to the next one to see how it will progress.

Oh My God The Queen of Sexyville!!! LOL

This show's not so bad but it has to be a bit longer though.

This is just a rehash of "The Gamers" which isn't as funny or witty.

The pilot was okay, but this got a lot better. Nicely done. It's my opinion that if your random encounter table doesn't at least one noncombat, at least one group themed according to the big bad, and at least one group that doesn't attack right away (like a scouting party) you needn't even bother.

I wonder what is the collective of wizard clones. A spell of wizard clones?

I'm really liking this new series; keep it up :3

Also, if you can use the lightsaber, why not just use The Force to fry those goblin warriors where they stood? It would avoid unnecessary damage to the bow itself. Just saying.

Genius idea. I did worry about the ruination of the bow.

I'm really enjoying this. I feel bad for the poor DM but then again he's being a bit of an arse too. I'm enjoying the jokes and by god, it looks is so pretty to watch! The costumes and effects are brilliant and it is beautifully shot. I'm just wondering, was this meant to be a first episode viewed without the pilot? I feel some of the character introductions are being rehashed, but that would explain it.
Also... I couldn't help but giggle at that guy's wink into the camera in the fantasy world. He can expertly womanise me if he likes!

Awesome production quality, and hilarious twists such as the shove to the girl by handsome prince and omg the DM as the queen of Sexville - I lol'd a lot.

Brilliant and only the 2nd episode of the series. Keep it up guys! ^_^

Too f**k'in funny!

I can't wait for next week!

Better than the pilot, but still has a long way to go. They could tone down the acting a bit, improve the flow.

That was... Actually pretty decent. A lot better than the pilot episode. Keep it up guys.

Exactly what I want and hoped for out of this show. Keep 'em coming.

Another great video!

Good job finding this group Escapist!

I counted that I facepalmed myself at least 4 times during the video laughing.

And I slammed my forehead on my desk when the DM dressed as a woman lol.

thats pretty damn good ^_^

The way that is was overacted kind of put me off, but perhaps it's because I love how much the Dead Gentlemen underact in "the Gamers."

Yay for australian accents. And congrats on getting a spot on an american site.

It was okay, but stuff needs to start happening.

Doomsday Arcade season 2 please ...

You do realize that Doomsday Arcade is done, finished, they wrapped it up. It had a clear ending.

This Episode is too much like that 80's show. I liked that 80's show better.

It's not a lightsaber. That would be copyright infringement. /Gamers 2

go Aussies

The production values are surprisingly well done, I'm impressed. I love how it constantly switches back and forth between reality and the fantasy (potential future episode? Hmmm, doubt it, but could be interesting).

However, I do have some of the same criticisms that others have said;

-I don't play D&D, and I'm sure many others don't (and do). D&D references are all well and good, but try not to alienate those who aren't "in" on the joke.
-Try to avoid making the D&D players blatant stereotypes (even though, in a way, D&D kind of relies on preset character models). They don't have to be fully 3-dimensional characters, but from what I've seen there's just the "creepy guy" goblin, "the fat one" who of course goes for Sci-fi, "the girl" who seems to go too quickly into adoring the men, "the skinny nerd" who's just, well, the skinny nerd, and "the uptight buzzkill" GM.
-Especially be careful with the female character, please don't make her just eye-candy or a pure ditz. I'm sure there are many thing you can do with the "OMG, a GIRL!" scenario, just be careful with it.
-As someone stated earlier, these guys do come off as a bit too wacky with each other. It's difficult to see why they'd gather together for a D&D game. That's something this could easily delve into, why do people play D&D games? It doesn't have to be dramatic or anything, keep the comedy if you can think of something. But a D&D game (to my knowledge) requires cooperation with the group to be successful, and this just comes off as a bunch of people living out their own fantasies instead of a group of friends joining in for an adventure.

I say these criticisms in the utmost sincerity. So far I feel that this is coming off as a strong new series. This series is kicking to a good start, but of course it could be better in many areas. This is an intriguing idea, and it'd be great to have another series to look forward to on the weekends.
