Game of The Year 2016

I just love the consistent look of both absence and dread on Geralt's face as the picture zooms further out.

Geralt vs the Hunter would be a good fight to be honest.

Fappy:
Geralt vs the Hunter would be a good fight to be honest.

I think Geralt as a boss in Bloodborne could potentially be much harder than the PC as a boss in the Witcher 3.

I think Undertale winning would have made for a better comic, since you'd have all these violent triple A game characters ganging up on a happy cartoon skeleton. Feels like there'd be a message there.

But yeah, now I'm picturing Geralt as a boss in Bloodborne and getting hyped.

There are two types of people in this world: those who choose The Order: 1886 as their GOTY, and people who are objectively wrong.

Must...resist urge...to start a...flame war!

Looks like Geralt is going to the bone zone today. I do not envy the man

Meanwhile, Cities Skylines meanders around somewhere in the distance, desperately wanting someone to at least acknowledge it.

------------

Honestly, I'm kinda shocked Bloodborne isn't the one winning GotY awards left and right. Must be because it's relatively old.

You cannot argue with objective fact. Your bias is clearly showing if you disagree.

Surprised you did not put a Fallout 4 reference.

I mean obviously it's Super Mario Maker, the first game in years to get more than 100 hours of play time out of me, but if it weren't, it'd have to be Freedom Planet for Wii U, which totally counts as a separate game from 2014's PC version.

P.S. Thanks

Geralt's face speaks to me of surprise and terror. "How did I get here?" Geralt asks. "Every step that led me to this point made sense, and yet..."

I think part of the disconnect here is that while Witcher 3 is an amazing piece of work by almost every objective standpoint, the Witcher doesn't engender the kinds of emotional connections that the others manage. Geralt is a largely unlikable character, and I've never gotten the impression that he deals with terribly likable people. The Witcher as a series doesn't have the same history with internet culture that Metal Gear does, doesn't have a shred of the sheer character of Undertale, and so on.

And of course, it very glaringly lacks anything even resembling a rocket racecar demolition derby mode. Honestly, I think they must have disqualified Rocket League on those grounds, just so that we don't risk losing the sheer joy of rocket racecar demolition derby to award-hungry feature cloning in games where rocket racecars are not natural features.

100% on board with you. Cities: Skylines eked out Pillars of Eternity for my personal GOTY, which is no small feat considering how much love I have for Infinity engine-era games. C:S hooks me in for hours at a time in a way not seen since my ongoing Football Manager addiction.

Undertale's Papyrus should be wielding a long bone to bash Geralt on the head with. Also,

Samtemdo8:
Surprised you did not put a Fallout 4 reference.

The race in the back with the sombrero made me chuckle.

That reminds me, I really need to play Rocket League.

This image makes me think: Damn! We had pretty good games in 2015!

Only thing missing in this comic is a Skell from Xenoblade Chronicles X pointing one of it's weapons at Geralt and ready to shoot while towering over everything else from behind. :p

Looking forward to FP2?

Arcadian Legend:
Looking forward to FP2?

More than anything else currently announced that isn't out yet. Although that could change once we get some real footage of the next Zelda game.

P.S. Thanks

Sombrero soccer car is the most violent of the bunch

It's the only logical explanation, really.

Site polls the world over have apparently performed a service to Rocket League by giving it the shaft. Thank you, Witcher 3.

Jebediah tried to hit him with a rocket, but it blew up on the launchpad.

Yep, not even Vault-boy being trampled by the competition?

That's the best joke i've heard this year, good sir.

Let's see...
Paid $20 for Witcher 3 pre-release. Total play time < 1 hr
Paid $12 for Rocket League two days after release. Total play time 350 hrs.

Witcher 3 GOTY alright /s

MrCalavera:

No sirs here, just a myss. Err, Amyss. Err...you know what I mean.

Makes sense. I mean, how can someone else's GOTY not match with your personal play time?

Not that it seems to be the point, but still.

Caramel Frappe:
I like the idea that Big Boss is trying to do a stealth attack, the Hunter trying to do a massive leap attack- all while Papayrus merely wants to congratulate Geralt with a friendly spook. Then you have the Rocket League car that's going to crush all of them under it's weight because vehicles are heavy.

Also that face. "Why do I have the feeling this is going to hurt?"

Not shown: Jacob and Evie Frye, hiding in the rafters above the stage, waiting to pounce on all of them.

The Meta Irony of this quote is hilarious.

2015 was the "Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny" for video games... that year... Then again, I think Geralt didn't realize that this was all Sans's idea that he ended up in such a predicament...

Other than that, there's a lot of balls in that last panal... and is only missing just one if the sombrero gives it away... :p

Xman490:

Nah, I like how he's the odd man out with no weapon, I'm sure he's actually just planning on giving Geralt a friendly pat on the back, or to push him out of the way of the other attacks.

Fiz_The_Toaster:
That reminds me, I really need to play Rocket League.

You really do. Pure simple fun whenever you pick it up? I love games that are immediately accessible and yet not patronizingly easy.

2013 also had a three way between Grand Theft Auto 5, The Last of Us, and Bioshock Infinite.

And GTA 5 got snubbed on so many websites votiing for Last of Us.

If the game award shows were actually like that, I'd actually watch them. >:D

That's what they need I think instead of random celebrities introducing the winners. Have the devs learn who won ahead of time so they can work together to make some animated fights between the nominated game's main characters, ending with the winner of the award being the victor.

Or, If they want to still keep it a surprise for the devs, I guess they could hire the Death Battle team to make it.

Anyway, hope 2016 give us as many good games as 2015! =w= b

This was one of those supremely good years for games that reminds people why it would be awesome if some major gaming outlet did a "Games of the Year, Plural" thing instead of trying to make a ranked list or just name one winner.

Case in point: EVERYONE has forgotten about Cities: Skylines. Especially me.

Maybe I'm missing something, but... Shouldn't it be 2015?

Bloodborne is my personal GOTY but a lot of people got put off it because it's an exclusive. Which is personally understandable. There's also the contingent of people who go "oh, it's just more Dark Souls?" and they've gotten a little bit tired of that.

That or Geralt used the Axii sign on all the award givers...

Samtemdo8:
Surprised you did not put a Fallout 4 reference.

They did, the blue backgrounds are the game crashing to desktop for the umpteenth time that day.

Not pictured in the strip. A Bright wizard glaring incandescently at them with a beam staff.
