The VVitch - Ye Olde Horror Film
The VVitch - Ye Olde Horror Film The VVitch is the type of horror movie that doesn't come around very often, but when it does we should be so very happy.
Why is the title two Vs and not a W?
And, why not make a pun on the name? "If you've got a horror V-V-itch, this will scratch it."
A horror movie based more around atmosphere and suspense rather than predictable plots and jump scares? ........................... I'M THROWING MONEY AT MY SCREEN BUT NOTHING'S HAPPENING, DAMNIT!!!!! >:(
I love jump scares... but I love atmospheric thrillers too. This looks amazing. Unless it ends up in modern day (I'm looking at you M.N.S!).
I came here to ask the same question. I'm glad to see that I wasn't just hallucinating that.

Unless it ends up in modern day (I'm looking at you M.N.S!).[/quote] Same, as important as atmosphere and such is, I like a good jump here and there. Anyway. Cool, I had no plans to see this but if this is shaping up to be a seriously good horror movie, maybe I'll go check it out.
W hadn't become a standard letter to many people in the 17th century, and many rendered its sound as UU or VV. That's why it's called Double-U. It's probably another nod to period taste.
If I had to venture a guess, I'd say it was a certain M. Night Shyam-alam-a-ding-dong, what with the whole atmosphere that ends up not paying off, in a way that mirrors his movie-making career.
This movie sounded like it should absolutely be my thing (I usually like slow-burn, creepy, atmospheric horror), but I saw it this weekend, and just did not connect with it at all. I just felt like I was missing something throughout the film, and I just couldn't put my finger on what. Oh, and many of the "creepiest" parts in the film I just completely unaffecting or unintentionally hilarious, for some reason. :\
I guess you could say that this is the "Season of The Witch", am I right? Other that that, if it wasn't for that pending refund, I would probably go see this movie sooner... :p
I saw it in the cinema yesterday and I wish that I hadn't. Not because the movie was bad or anything. I thought it was good, with at least one scene that made me go "jesus... what the fuck..." and that never happens in any horror movie. However, the crowd ruined the movie for me. Lots of loud people answering their phones, talking, laughing. I'll see it again when it hits DVD. At home. With headphones on.
