The Division: Tools of the Trade

It's weird in JRPGs where your epic quest just so happens to visit equipment shops in the exact order that means each has better equipment than the last.

Similarly, Goku and friends got really lucky about their antagonist order. If any two of those enemies got swapped our heroes would have been wrecked.

You know, the game keeps telling me my gear is too low. Yet I'm xakewalking through enemies.

Little does that player realize that despite what that high-power weapon can do, you can still suck with it long after reaching that level threshold...

Other than that, if you can still die from low-level players the same way you die fro high-level players, then the leveling system is only there to justify when you gain access to which weapon/gear you can have in general...

eeeeeh, would they? I always viewed it as the protagonists rising up to the occasion.

step 1: antagonist x (say, frieza) beats up everyone, nobody strong enough to beat him
step 2: protagonist x (say, goku) rises up, permanently unlocks just enough power in the heat of the moment to overpower antagonist x (goku goes super saiyan for example)
step 3: world is saved, enter antagonist y

the punchline is that no matter how bad things get, by power creep rules the good guys will always get juuuust high enough to deal with it

Let's see; I spot a sniper scope, a holo sight, drum magazine, bipod, foregrip, laser pointer, underbarel grenade launcher, silencer, bayonet, and I think some kind of thermal scope. I'm trying to think of any attachments they missed.

Well you forgot the flashlight :P

I supppse maybe they missed a foldable stock for the gun.

EDIT: Actually I think they have one.

If it wasn't for those darn meddling hoodlums and their antropomorphic dog... !

Anyway, "Hoodmaster" for the win! <3

It sounds like The Division is more laissez un-fair amirite.

In fairness Goku dies at least once. And the only reason that one of the Saiyans doesn't obliterate earth is because of divine intervention on two separate planets from two separate dragon gods.

Ideal Person: I am the hero who has been tasked with saving the world. You know, the one you are living in?
Store Keeper: That's great, but until you kill the 5 goblins that have infested the local mine, I will have to sell you gear that is slightly better than what you have right now, for slightly more coins than what you have on you right now.

It's even crazier in Crono Trigger, where the weapons of 65 million BC are better than the ones in the 24th century.

Kid Buu vs Radditz-Saga Goku.......HA!

I don't know about that...Swap Vegeta from the Saiyajin Saga with Frieza. Goku's most powerful attacks are the Kaioken and a tiny Spirit Bomb, neither of them (even a giant spirit bomb) came close to stopping Frieza. AT BEST you could make the assumption that Frieza would make Goku go SSJ by killing Gohan or something. If that's the case, then the heroes would still get killed if fighting the Androids, Cell, or Buu instead of Vegeta.

This comic made me think of that scene with the guns in Men in Black. Kind of a good analogy for video game progression.

While it doesn't excuse it by any means, in 24th century there hasn't really been much in the way of proper production capabilities since 1999 when Lavos went apocalypse happy on the planet. So everything you find is hundreds of years old already or made by machines that most of the time hasn't been properly maintenanced, if they had been at all, for centuries(imagine building a railgun from parts thats been lying around for 3 to 4 centuries and how that would work out). Only exceptions I can think of would be the facility run by a certain nutty AI. Which may or may not have maintaining its stuff properly.

I like how the bayonet is directly in front of the grenade launcher

This comic gave me gulf war syndrome! I have a whole series of sudden and unrelated symptoms with no diagnosis. I demand money! And a whole series of attachments for my AR-15.

Don't knock Nerf guns! You can put someone 's eye out with one.

To be fair, the guns in the Division are pretty free of "rusty old sword"-syndrome. You get real weapons from the start and then just keep going upward and revisiting the same weapons again but with better stats. Sure my MP-5 from the start might suck at level 30, but it looks and fires just like the level 30 MP-5, with the exception of doing less damage. You ain't given "hand-me-down flintlock" at level 1 and then progress through 200 years of weapon history before getting actual modern guns at level 30.

Well, much of your gear at the start is "worn" and you work your way up.

Ahhhh, you see, Ivan... When you put bayonet front of grenade launcher you launch grenade knives at imperialist enemy.

Seriously though. Can we all just admit now that The Division sucks ass?

I was using the same level 9 sniper scope on my rifle well into my 20th+ level simply because I never found anything better and it still worked just fine. I'm laughing my sorry butt off at the post game weapons being substantially weaker than my pistol that was supposedly underleveled 5 levels ago.
