Ex-EGM Subscribers Get Boob-Filled Severance Package

Ex-EGM Subscribers Get Boob-Filled Severance Package

Subscribers with remaining balances on their EGM subscriptions will reportedly receive an equal number of Maxims as compensation.

After the folding of Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine as a result of UGO's acquisition of 1UP, many subscribers were left wondering what would be done with their remaining subscriptions. It appears the answer has come in the form of boobs and low brow humor via Maxim Magazine.

Subscribers' first replacement issue, "[...] comes with a note that subscribers can instead opt for a pro-rated refund for the balance of their EGM subscription." This leaves subscribers with the option of either waiting what will surely be months for a $15 dollar check or just accepting a monthly dose of Spike TV caliber writing and double Ds.

While mammaries for exclusive Mario pics may seem like a fair trade to some EGM subscribers, it's important to note that the magazine is replacing a videogame periodical with a young readership. The magazine's trademark saucy pictorials and articles are almost certain to rub unaware parents the wrong way.

While Maxim does in fact, cover videogames, its one paragraph reviews are usually of little interest to hardcore gamers.

I think the mothers' reaction will be the funniest. They get ready to blame their husband for getting the magazine and then see their sons/daughters (even funnier perhaps?) name on the address. Fun times.

Well, that's the dumbest exchange plan in history. You'd think they would have at least tried to sub it for an electronics related magazine.

I'm waiting with baited breath for the self righteous and totally un-ironic complaints of 'porn by the back route' to turn up.

because we all know..no WOMEN would ever read a gaming mag!

At first I thought the thread title was "Ex EGM subscribers get severed boob package".

Avashnea:
because we all know..no WOMEN would ever read a gaming mag!

Because no WOMAN would ever be interested in Maxim magazine, and all MEN will be! (I do agree that this is kind of a lopsided swap, but only because Maxim, boobs aside, stopped being funny when I turned 20.)

Now THAT is a lopsided swap! Because, you know, if you cut off one...

Um...I think I've made my point.

That's my point. We DO exist and wouldn't want a boob mag....

My last line about my "point" was more to highlight the hilarity about my joke about boob-severing.

What I was saying to you is that some women EGM subscribers might like Maxim, and some of the guy subscribers might not. The point is, they are not really similar magazines, so the swap is goofy either way. Same as if they swapped it for Good Housekeeping or something.

lol sorry. I just got home from work...my brain is falling asleep.

You can't call those reviews. The back of the box is more informative than those little blurbs.

I was wondering why the hell a half-naked Moon Bloodgood turned up in my mailbox. I was expecting the magazine to be dumb, but I was shocked to see just how dumb it was. I don't think anyone over the mental age of 13 could derive any sort of satisfaction from the piece of trash.

Amusing story. A few years back, at E3, Ziff Davis was offering a really sweet deal -- subscribe to five magazines for $5 each for five years. Or something like that. Point is, it was a great deal...until the magazines started folding, one by one. Every time, I got a new EGM subscription as compensation. I didn't need all the extra EGMs, but the swap at least made sense, a gaming mag for a gaming mag. Now, there aren't any other gaming mags to give you, so you're stuck with Maxim. Feh.

You still have the totally asinine option of waiting for months for your $15 check.

The exchange plan is ridiculous, and only serves to further reinforce the stereotype that no girls are gamers, and no gamers are girls.

Well, average thirteen. I'm only fourteen and I never found humour in that vein funny.

Hmm... Decisions, decisions...

Anyway, could anyone else think of a magazine that is more similar to EGM than Maxim?

[/sarcasm]

Yeah, that idea really is stupid and I'm so lucky I don't subscribe to EGM because my mother would be so pissed off...

Wow. That's funny, but also really sad that a lot of magazines, especially gaming and other "community"-focused periodicals, are collapsing under the weight of the bad economy and the popularity of sites like these. I mean, no one specific person is to blame and I suppose it's just progress in action, but I know I personally miss those weekends of heading out early to the bookstore to get the latest magazine and enjoying it at a cafe or outside with a cup of coffee. Which I can still do. I'll just have to find another magazine. I hope the pool won't shrink too much.

Personally I think the mag market may have gotten a little too overextended during the boom years, kinda like the car companies, and since the companies didn't thin out before the lean years, now they're being forced to by the market. So I still shouldn't have a problem finding hard issues of SOMETHING. Just maybe not the 'somethings' I was used to.

Of course I'm probably just an old man. I also teared up a little the last day of the Analog Channel Age. Feel free to poke fun, but please, let me get a good grip on my walker first.

... you can apply to be an amazon!

Anywho, it works out for us who used to get both magazines. Now my subscription to Maxim will never run out!

I just got my copy of Maxim magazine. It sucks. The stories make no sense, and the writers are assholes. Good thing you can request a refund.

That's what I did. I'm just lucky I was the only one in my three-person house when the mail came with THAT. I may be 18, but it's still kinda mentally traumatizing. Fresh out of high school and BOOM. Maxim in my face. Expecting college stuff, too

Meant to quote this in the last post. Sorry. Still new at this.

My dad subscribed me for EGM. I can't wait for the lulz that ensue when my mom finds Maxim in the mailbox. XD

That's odd. You have to excuse me, thread necromancy is actually not that big of a deal... it just tends to puzzle me, every single time.
