MGS Rising Levels 3rd-Party Playing Field, Says Microsoft

 Pages PREV 1 2

I'm really not sure what the rep is talking about, exclusives are well and healthy the last time I checked and no definition change is necessary. If you say Xbox live is exclusive you might aswell say that the PSN is exclusive...it makes no sense at all.

Both PS3 and 360 are getting quite a lot of system-only games (though you might debate the validity of the whole exclusive deal if it also comes to the PC).

The time of exclusives is over? MAG, MGS 5(search your feelings, you know it to be true), Heavy Rain, Last Guardian and GT would like to have a talk with you.

I was referring to myself, as I thought I was being a little over-defensive. But the PS3 games I actually want to play I can borrow at my friends house, and vice versa. Oh and Mass Effect 2.

But back on-topic, this new MGS game does show that developers don't care about loyalty exclusives, they care about money, and so that is why exclusives will eventually die out as they are bought out to appear on other consoles.

Well, that's not entirely true either. Yes, an MGS game is coming out on 360, but Kojima himself stated the true sequel in the series is coming to PSP, and he's actually lead director/artist on that one. Not to fuel anything, but I believe while Konami understands and wants multiplatform support, that Kojima himself will take a bit more time before he makes the plunge. Time will tell, I suppose.

Morne

So it's the Dragon Quest scenario where the main series is going to handhelds? No matter as long as this is good, the main MGS story as of now is completly fucked up.

Not entirely sure actually, I think it's really just Kojima attempting to stay away from multi-platform developement as long as he can avoid it. Not entirely sure if it's some kind of bias against the 360, or what (I'm not a hardcore MGS follower, 4 was the first). But, he'll have to bend eventually, or split from Konami/leave Kojima Studios.

Morne

Well if he's that much against multi-platform development I'm geussing the latter.

Heh, if Kojima Studios broke from Konami, or Kojima himself walked and went Sony first party...wow, I can't even imagine how big of an announcement that would be.

Morne

THe flames of war have not yet erupted? Amazing.

Therefore, let me slip in my two cents: while this is a strong addition to the 360's 3rd party developers, we don't know if this relationship will take. Therfore, I have cautious optimism.

The more I think about it the more likely it seems.

I wasn't including the various SCE studios as distinct developers, though I guess in that spirit I shouldn't include Nintendo Software Technology Corporation or Nintendo Software Planning and Development as distinct Nintendo-owned studios. But Nintendo does have numerous second-party developers (that would be independent developers under contract with Nintendo).

AlphaDream
Ambrella
Camelot Software Planning
Game Freak
Genius Sonority
HAL Laboratory
NDCUBE
Noise
Paon
skip Ltd.

Neither Sony nor Microsoft have 2nd-party developers though both have a number of "loyal" 3rd-party developers.

No, it's a good thing to show them all, I'm not really up on nintendo anymore. But, I was spot on that Sony has more than both. Not combined, as previously theorized, but definitely more.

Well I know one Dev who has gone on record saying "Fuck you my games are for the PS3 and nothing else" which is Tetsuya Nomura, hence his game FFXIII Versus will remain a PS3 exclusive. and yeah Nomura is pretty much at the point where he HATES Wada (the current president of Square Enix) because the man ran Dragon Quest for 7 straight installments without ever trying to REALLY improve it. in the end it was Level 5 (Masters of Dark Cloud, White Knight Chronicle, Proffessor Layton) who took the series somewhere different.

I can understand Nomura's frustration with Wada (Nomura bitterly remarked in an old interview about how he imagines a game where you have to escort the president of a successful gaming company but you can let him die with no penalty)

But yeah Nomura is pretty much a Sony fanboy and a Nintendo fanboy I guess with the DS games. maybe it's loyalty to the company that gave his games there big break. maybe it's loyalty to japan in general. Maybe Microsoft wanted to bastardize his creations I dunno.

All I know if the guy is pretty much "It's exclusive or I walk" (Note that FFXIII is not Nomura's own game he is simply the character designer)

I don't care about this, Mr. Kim. Just give me a trailer for MGS: Rising. Hell, even a screenshot would be nice!

How Ironic, I just refuted that very claim in an essay I did like 10 minutes ago

And he also did the sprite designs for FFVI as well as the character designs for each of his own games as well as doing FFXIII's.

And I highly doubt Square would let go of who is undoubtably there biggest asset (who makes the money do you think? mostly Nomura stuff)

Although I hate how is mild character design became well (Points to link he posted)

Actually the weaponary in FFXIII looks fairly standard, besides the gigantic hilt on that sword I think one of the characters has a shot gun and I think the only other weapon we've seen is a Rapier.

Huh... Still Nomura is head of both the Kingdom Hearts and XIII Versus projects so he probably has a lot on his hands (which is why we haven't heard a lot about either)

If Nomura were ever to split from the Final Fantasy series, I have serious reservations about the future of the franchise.

Nomura is usually a solid character designer (usually) and he does wonderful as director/producer.

So MGS: Rising isn't exclusive? Meaning it will be multiplatorm? Whoop-de-do!

The only game I plan to buy on release day that was shown at E3 is God of War 3.

Even if it WAS exclusive noone would care because it's a game about RAIDEN. It's a nice insult towards MS but I wonder why Konami bothered to toss that much money at an insult. Maybe the general hatred for Raiden will make them cut down on the cutscenes though...

"Second leading platform"? Last I checked the ranking was something like PS2 (if you count it), DS, Wii, PSP, 360, PS3 so "second losing platform" would be more appropriate.

actualy, its coming out on 360 and ps3, AND ps3 has an online network, and a store, like on cod5, ps3 has nazi zombies online and an expansion for it

Whoa, brain pump here.

In the end, it's not the 3rd parties that matter, it's the exclusives and 1st/2nd parties.

Just a brain pulse there...
