BioShock 2 Delayed to Fiscal 2010 - UPDATED

Take-Two has announced that BioShock 2 has been delayed until the company's 2010 fiscal year, which could potentially push it all the way back to 2011.

According to its most recent financial update, BioShock 2 requires "additional development time" and will not be ready for the 2009 Christmas season. "We concluded that moving the release of BioShock 2 into fiscal year 2010 was the right decision for the product," said Take-Two Chairman Strauss Zelnick. "We believe the result will be a more compelling consumer experience and a better performing product in the marketplace."

"The decision to shift a release date is never an easy one, especially with a product as highly anticipated as BioShock 2," added CEO Ben Feder. "We felt that it was essential to invest the additional time to ensure that this title will deliver what its fans expect and deserve. As a result, we will now be launching sequels to several of our strongest franchises - including BioShock 2, Mafia II, Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption - during the next fiscal year."

Unfortunately for Take-Two, the delay of BioShock 2 exacerbates the difficulties it was already facing as a result of the poor economic climate and the company has thus been forced to reduce its guidance for the 2009 fiscal year. "We recognize that our revised outlook for the balance of fiscal year 2009, due to both internal and external factors, is a disappointment," Zelnick said. "Near-term retail conditions have proven to be more challenging for our business than the assumptions built into our prior outlook. We remain confident in the long term potential for Take-Two's business, and our ability to capitalize on that potential through our exceptional creative talent and solid balance sheet."

The news of the delay comes only three days after Take Two announced the addition of French studio Arkane to the BioShock 2 development team. At least one observer suggested at the time that bringing in an entire studio to help with the game's development when it was less than four months away from its scheduled release date could be a sign of impending trouble and possibly even a delay.

Yes, that was me.

BioShock 2 is now expected to come out sometime during Take Two's 2010 fiscal year, taking place between March 2010 and March 2011. We've dropped a line to Take Two asking for details and will update when we can.

UPDATE: VG247 has reported that Feder told investors BioShock 2 is now scheduled to launch in the first half of 2010. We'll continue to watch for updates.

NOOOOO! I've been waiting for this for so long Take-Twom, how could you do this? They better be able to fix up most of the problems with it than.

Damn, my friend is not going to like this, and neither do I!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. this stinks.

*cocks shotgun* Don't worry. I've prepared for a situation like this.

Do they want us to die?

Actually, if this means the game will be better, I'm glad to wait.

On one hand I want to rage, scream and curse the heavens for doing this to me. I had it marked on my calendar. On the other I do want the game to be perfect and if it needs more time to simmer so be it.

Either way this news ruined my day. Guess it is about time to rip some civilians in half to ease the pain.

Good for you young one.

Another one bites the dust. I hope everyone likes modern war and fabulous Italian assassins because it looks to be slim pickings otherwise.

This was pretty much the only game I was looking forward to for the rest of the year. Now I'm sad :(

I am now a sad panda. This was the game I was most looking forward to this year.

Ah damn.

I shall add my voice to the chorus of sadness.

Well it gives me time to finish bioshock. Well it's better they take their time then release a bad game. Thats the mark of a good game maker.

This news makes me a very sad panda.

... As long as Painkiller Resurrection and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat aren't delayed too I'll be ok... for a while... hopefully...

Oh noes! I.. need... cyanide... capsule!

True.

ahhh this make me sad.

Ah well, now I'll have more money this autumn. Also one less multiplayer to play so I am at least somewhat able to keep the sorrow in check...

It's OK guys I'm prepared for this. *picks up Tetsa-Zangetsu replica* Which way is take-two HQ?

Am I the only one that likes this?
Without the delay of a few games this year I could be looking at serious bankruptcy.

Such a bummer. I was really looking forward to this for Christmas. Oh well, something to get me through the winter!

OH HELL YES.

This returns some hope of it not being total ass at least. <3

WTF!!! NOOOOO!!!

On a lighter note, now I can spend all my rather limited time on Modern Warfare 2.

My wallet is very pleased with this news. Ofcourse I would've loved to play this game, but this news means A: this will probably only be better for the game, and B: now I won't go bankrupt. Maybe I can get MW2 now.

No, no, no! Not Max Payne 3, WHY?!

Well this sucks.

*Bank account has a party in the background*

To be honest, I was getting a little worried about the game anyway, hopefully another few months in development will ensure it lives up to the first.

Still, I can't help but be little dissapointed.

Well, this will make for some really bland X-Mas season now. I'm not terribly shocked (zing!) about the news, but I was looking forward to playing Bioshock 2 on the cold winter nights.

THIS is why i hate hype and release dates. the media always attacks game developers with "WHENS IT COMMING OUT? TELL US? COME ON! SOMETHING! BALL PARK IT! TELL US NOW! WHEN?! WHEN?! WHEN?! GIVE US A DATE OR I WILL FUCKING KILL YOU!!!!!!!!" and the developers feel slightly pressured and give a made up date that never gets met. so when things go bad (as they always do) and they need to push it back everyone gets mad at the developers. as long as the game is good i dont care how long it takes. you can tell when a game has been rushed out unfinished. and the worst part is there is this new stupid mentality of "oh well, we can put out a downloadable patch for it later." so if anyone here works at gamestop, this is why i dont pre-order games.

ps: this is great! im not done with bioshock 1 yet!

Well there goes my winter gaming.

At least they're really serious about making this game live up to the original.

UPDATE: Well, at least it won't be that long.

Starcraft II has been pushed back, again...
Bioshock 2 has been pushed back.
Diablo 3 was announced three or more years too early.
Duke Nukem Forever has been pushed back canceled tied up in a lawsuit.
Oh what a fun and wonderful f'ing year.

I swear to dark gods, if Wolfenstein doesn't come out on schedule in August, I'm selling my PC and going to go searching flea markets for the parts to rebuild a 486. At least then, I can play some of the great damn games I had from way back when, instead of waiting for crap that isn't half as good as what came before...

Wow, these guys can seriusly go FUCK themselves.
