Rob Zombie Remaking The Blob, Sans Blob

Oh Rob Zombie, why don't you go and play in the sand with Uwe Bol.

They would make a Dead Space movie.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

Now that's a genuinely scary thought. Excuse me whilst I was out my minds eye.

OT: could be interesting to see a darker blob, I hope he doesn't mean just in colour. Could be some massively genetically engineered bacteria or something, engulfing people and dividing.

Feh, let the man create, and judge it afterwards, not before. I liked the Blob too, both versions . . . and really, I think it's beyond remakes unless you do something radically different.

Comparisons to Toliet Boll are way out of left field. I can watch Rob's movies without having to restrain the urge to claw out my eyeballs.

Hey you know what would make The Lord of The Rings better, if we got rid of the rings. This seals it, Rob Zombie only knows how to work with his own ideas.

No Rob. Just no. Stop butchering halloween, don't you dare touch the blob, and just go do decent-ish gothic rock/dance music things that we can more easily ignore.

And if you're good, I may just let you try and make a movie, as long as it's not a damn unecessary remake. There's a good rob.

I don't see he doesn't just use the ideas of the original, and just make a new film with those. It would be much less backward...

Again, we are at a similar situation. What Rob Zombie says make sense; the old-fashioned image wouldn't work in a modern movie. He wants to be able to reinterpret it, as he sees fit. There's nothing inherently stupid about that.
You can narrow the article down to a sensational little quote out of context, and warp the idea. But let's face it, isn't Zombie right? He'd have to go in a new direction. Just because it's not going to be the same "gigantic, red Jello-looking thing," doesn't mean it won't be a blob in some other form, or keep the general idea. It makes sense, please don't distort it any other way.

Right. I'm off to remake King Kong, only without that silly giant monkey thing.

I've seen both versions of The Blob, and I love them equally. I don't see a single thing that's missing from either of those two films that could benefit from a remake. The blob itself is a formless carnivore with no real motive apart from its own survival. It's the perfect villain, really, more of a natural disaster than a monster. There's not much that can really be done with that concept that hasn't been done already.

From the sound of it, Zombie wants to change the 'look' of the blob, not remove it altogether, but as long as he's talking about a remake: If you're going to re-imagine something beyond recognition (go nuts with it), then why bother to market it as a remake (except obviously for bankability and name-recognition) when you could present it as an original IP and have at least slightly more merit to your work?

While I respect and kind of admire the fact that Rob Zombie is essentially making the kinds of movies he wants to make and see, the fact that he's doing remakes just seems like hypocrisy.

yeah you're about the only other person on here who's seen that everyone is taking the quote out of context and missing what he is actually saying.

The man who managed to lobotomize Halloween is at it again. Why couldn't he just stick with his (somewhat) original flicks?

right cause adding more story to the movie is a bad thing

you do realize it was mostly a shot for shot remake with extra stuff added to it

Extra stuff which didn't add anything to the film as a whole. And all of this "shot-for-shot-remake"-bullshit is just that, bullshit. The re-make lacks o so many things that the original had, direction by John Carpenter for one thing. The music. The atmosphere. I could go on, but I won't, because you apparently sit around waiting for Zombie to crap out the next big hit.

The worst part is that Rob Zombie never said anything close to making "The Blob with no blob"... Earnest Cavalli said it. But, most of the posters in the thread apparently like to post without reading the full article, just the title.

I, for one, am curious to see how this turns out. When I heard he was remaking it, I was excited, but now that he's changed it I'm curious to see what he's doing with it. He can't completely remove the "blobiness" from the blob. It still has to be some amorphous mass of some kind

I would really like to see what modern technology could do with the Blob itself. We've yet to see a really well done slime monster in my opinion, and it's high time we corrected this.

John Carpenter isn't the be all and end all of director's, in fact he's overly average and pretty good for a horror director. tho most of his last few movies haven't been that great

as for it being an almost shot for shot remake, yeah it was and not it's not bullshit. they took out some of the stuff and changed it a bit but frankly it was almost identical to the original, cept for the back story that actually did add a dimension to the character itself

i don't really sit around waiting for him to do things, i spend most of my time working on my reading and comprehension, which is something i suggest you work on a LOT more.

If you're not gonna remake it, then call it something else.

Next up he is going to remake The Thing, without 'The Thing'. I can see it now, "You see The Thing is metaphorical for the evil inside of us all..." STFU! As I've often said, there's always a place for latex and KY Jelly... in terms of monster effects of course.

I don't care if this makes sense or not. It's Rob Zombie we're talking about here.

Although, on the front page of IMDb, they had something about him wanting to make a pirate movie. I would rather that than another Blob remake, but hey. He could do something good with this. Don't prejudge, my friends.

Couldn't be any shittier than the game (storyline wise).

I would argue that The Blob is a pretty iconic character as well... You know what would allow him to go nuts beyond boundries? Creating a new film instead of a sequel.

Didn't they already remake "The Blob" back in the '80s? Jesus, next thing you know they'll be remaking "A Nightmare on Elm Street". On a side note, is there any horror movie icon better than Freddy? I'm sure this is probably up for debate.

Ah shit. I'm going to be dragged to this. I know it!

The Rob Zombie did do an ok job on Halloween, but Beyonce did the best job on Halloween of all time.

cant wait.

I say let him. Nobody is forced to watch it. I'm more interested in when Hellbilly Deluxe 2 comes out!

Remember the guy who made the 1980 something remake of the Blob was a guy called 'Todd Russell' and he made it pretty dark because in his movie the blob did not just roll over people, it dissolved and devoured people. Splitting them into pices, spectacular gore.
I think it can't be hard to make an all consuming mass scary.

*facepalm* You can't make a blob movie dark and edgy. I mean, hell, the 1980's remake was also goofy, it had large amounts of blood and gore that screamed cheese. Why must Rob Zombie constantly remake my favorite movies and totally ruin them!?!?

awesome, I loved both the old 50s version and the 80s version.

it's not the blob's fault he's overweight, he was born that way........ wait, what we're we on about?

yeah...

I'm going to glue a set of spikes into the nearest wall and begin bashing my face into them. I'm not sure when I'll stop.

atleast it's more of a reboot than a remake, if that helps.
