Is Protagonist Cole McGrath Being Recast for InFamous Sequel?

A sequel to this year's InFamous may be in the works with a brand new Cole McGrath, according to an accidental leak via Twitter.

Oh, that wacky Twitter. Spur-of-the-moment microblogging can be both astoundingly convenient - for, say, Tweeting about your exciting experience mere moments after having your plane being crash-land in the Hudson River - and also astoundingly inconvenient ... particularly if you're trying to keep something a secret (just ask Peter Molyneux).

Consequently, there may be more than a few people over at InFamous development studio Sucker Punch who are busy /facepalming today thanks to this Tweet from actor David Sullivan: "First voiceover/motion capture audition today for a video game. Re-casting of Cole in the sequel of Infamous. "I'll melt your face." e.g"

This leads us to believe that A.) Sucker Punch is busy working on InFamous 2 (oh, like you didn't see that one coming) and B.) that main character Cole McGrath may not be the same as you remember him.

Of course, there's no official announcement yet and Sony is being predictably tight-lipped as reports G4, so for now this goes straight into the proverbial "unconfirmed" bin. (Also, Mr. Sullivan, you might want to start looking for work someplace else. I can't imagine Sucker Punch is all that happy with you at the moment).

Good. His voice was way too gravely. Even though it fit the character, it was really hard on the ears at times.

So if InFamous 2 is in the works, is its rival, [PROTOTYPE]2, being made as well? I can only hope.

His voice was widely criticized as one of the only annoying things in the game, but changing it would change his character completely.
Well whatever happens...
We'll all be in shock. Get it? Get it?

I thought it was funny

Damn it. That's another thing I have to wait for.

Meh, he voice was like gravel. As long as it doesn't get worse.

Good. When I saw my brother playing this game I couldn't stand Cole's voice.

Whoa, I totally misread the title. I read "recast" as "racist". That would be a much more interesting story. As it stands, I don't care who does the voice acting. I'm sure they'll get some generic, gruff-sounding guy.

It's published by Activision. Of course, it's getting a sequal. Bobby Kotchick confirmed this months before it was even released.

yeah but really InFamous did everything a bit better, including winning the photoshop contest.

i didn't mind [PROTOTYPE] but i really preferred InFamous, the way the controls were done was better. tho i think it could also be down to Activision being jerks and not wanting to spend time to program for a controller they've been using for the past 10 years and now claiming it's "too hard"

I read it the exact same way, while reading the article i was then slightly confused as to why it mentioned nothing of the sort, then i reread the title.

OT: I didn't have too big a problem with the voice, but a change might be good.

I can only imagine it being simply:

next time you play Infamous, you will hear his voice in the tone of link.

Bah, hopefully he'll remind me less of an emotionless potato-head eastenders character now?

...I doubt it.

I couldn't help but laugh at this.

I thought the same thing, and even looked through the article to see where racism had anything to do with anything. So it wasn't, I was confused, and it was only until I read your post that I finally noticed.

What I like Cole's voice if they do redesign him I hope he doesn't look his trademark backpack with sly cooper symbol on it

I lol'd and then realized how meaningless the Tweet is. It basically only told us the obvious, that there will be a sequel. If they think that is a secret, they live under the dirt away from the internet.

Hopefully they will fix the controls since Cole handled like ass and couldn't autolock.

I was thinking the same thing the way it cuts off at r on the recent news section

a new voice actor isn't wanted by me but staying with the same one isn't needed either but i hope the character doesn't change drasticlly becuase of it.

But... I loved my Batman with lightning abilities!

:( Oh well. Nowhere to go but up, I suppose.

You know who this news impacts the most?

Jason Cottle...

...

Actually...it looks like Sucker Punch modeled Cole off of him...

yeah but in game he does have some facial hair(or at least 5 o'clock shadow)

Ok, so he lets something slip....then the tweet gets removed......COVER UP!

Cole's voice worked if you chose to be a bad guy. At least, I thought it fit well.

When I played as a good guy however, He sort of sounded like Christian Bale trying to man up into Batman with bronchitis. Not your usual good guy sound.

I guess the game wouldn't have made sense if you had a fairy godmother voice when you were good, and a satanic roar when you were bad. I still would have liked it though...

I wonder why Kessler and Cole were voiced by different people despite *spoilers*

Same for Ted Mosby in 2030 and now. Voices don't change that much

Can't hurt.

Cole McGrath made the game unplayable for me. I really, really wish I played the demo before getting the game. My fault. Live and learn.

A bike messanger with lightnng shooting from his fingers and scampering on walls... all good. But in form, voice, and motion, Cole was thoroughly unconvincing in this role. So much so that in the few hours I played I'm like ¨this is stupid.¨

I'm gonna bet I wasn't that taken with te gameplay either, but the main character definately didn't help.

But given the good reception of the game overall I wonder why they are doing that?

Good game+Sequal=Fans,Money.

I could have sworn this said "Is Protagonist Cole McGrath Being Racist for InFamous Sequel?"

I loved inFAMOUS, so did nearly everyone else, and it sold great, so it's pretty obvious there will be a sequel.

Too bad I bought Prototype before getting inFAMOUS though. Prototype was extremely repetitive, and causing chaos was fun for the first half hour before getting boring, the boss fights were cheap and annoying, in fact most enemies were cheap and annoying, all I used was the whipfist move which was too overpowered, getting strike team after strike team coming after you was frustrating, the side missions were boring and repetitive too and to get an actual story you had to run about and consume certain people (who, might I add, kept getting killed).

The whole thing felt rushed (well it was Activision publishing it). I think I bought it because of that thing on destructoid on how Cole was a pussy and how cool the videos looked. Boy I was wrong.

you're not the first poster to say the same thing

I liked Cole's voice, simply because MGS4 let me a bit down when it comes to lasting appeal. But hey, since SP is still the head of the project, this can't be a bad thing.

I'd like to see him with a really high pitched voice just to completely fuck up the continuity. It'd also be hilarious.

Didn't hate the voice work from the first game. It wasn't record breaking, but I thought it got the job done. I'm a bit disappointed that there aren't going to be DLCs released. I mean, that could work with how you are at the end of the game.
