Pandemic Employees Channel "Office Space"

When Pandemic closed its doors on November 17, three of its employees decided there was only one appropriate response: one involving a baseball bat, a sledgehammer and a crowbar.

Three anonymous employees took a printer from the Pandemic offices out to a field and converted it into plastic shards and dust. They filmed the excursion and added an expletive-laden gangster rap soundtrack resulting in both a reference to the scene in Office Space, and a fitting tribute to the former employees of Pandemic Studios. Pandemic was founded in 1998 and created franchises like Destroy All Humans and Full Spectrum Warrior. Electronic Arts closed the doors at Pandemic last week.

The closing of a creative studio affects us all, and my heart goes out to the families of those who lost their jobs. But if there was a way to go out with a bang, these guys nailed it. With a crowbar.

And ... feathers? Nice touch, fellas.

If it were me, it would be a fertilizer bomb at EA's offices. But hey, this is almost as good.

Not feathers, wheat, from the adjacent field. Well done, boys. Sorry about your sacking, but way to go out with a surprisingly smoky black cloud.

I've always been a secret fan of the Destroy All Humans games, so I was sad to hear that the studio that made them was closing down.

Regardless, I'd rate this as one of the best ways to end your job. So long Pandemic! We shall always remember you!

An excellent tribute. RIP Pandemic: we'll miss you.

OFFICE SPACE!

*Ahem* Sorry about that. Fuck yeah!

But that wasn't the song playing when they smashed the printer in the movie. It was "Still" by the Geto Boyz, which would have made this video one million times better.

Maybe it's a printer/fax/scanner and they were given their notices in the Back to the Future 2 fashion.

I'm thinking that they either didn't have the rights to use that song (what with Youtube being the way it is), or they wanted something more fitting for their own situation.

EDIT: Okay, now this is going to sound odd, but...
There are three Pandemic employees in this video.
Why then, am I seeing four different pairs of shoes over the course of the printer destruction?
I have a guess (that the employee wearing flip-flops probably switched into boots for safety reasons), but still just an odd thing to notice.

EDIT EDIT: ...Okay, now that I actually watched to the end, it turns out there WERE four guys.
Which is weird because... where'd the 4th guy come from?

once again EA fucks the industry royally with a stupid decision. Oh well, EA just lost a great dev company, their loss and sadly the loss of those who worked at pandemic.

shame, i thought Full Spectrum Warrior was pretty awesome. I have also heard of Destroy all Humans but i never played it...

I hate it when studios get closed down :(

It turns out I was wrong though. The video was loading slow for me and I was only able to watch about 10 second before it cut off. I figured they were just going to play through "Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta", but it did eventually turn into "Still".

Gangsta Shit! I'm happy now. :)

And what are EA going to do about it, fire them? Oh, wait... and they weren't even doing a bad job then.

to be honest, if you were a big fan af mercenaries and battlefront, and DaH!, then you'd know they aren't really that good at making sequels, at least so i thought.
still pity they're gone, maybe some of them could re-form a new company...?

I played the first Destroy All Humans, it was ok, it wasn't great though. And from what I understand the sequels just went down hill from there.

epic

I did the same thing.

Only instead of a printer it was my xbox that red ringed 2 days I got it back from repair.
And I had 2 friends with me.

Words cannot describe the feeling I felt after that...

But still, its sad to see this studio close.

A destructive end to an awesomely destructive game developer.

RIP, Pandemic.

It's a shame. I loved those guys.

Fuckin' A man.

god I love that movie...

...
That video actually for some odd reason makes me want to cry. I loved, and still love Pandemic.

Why EA!? WHY!?

Furburt:

If I my dream studio got destroyed by EA, I too would be tempted to bomb EA's head office, heck it's easy to do, but in this day and age, I'm already paranoid by black helicopters following me around anyway.

Terrorism achieves nothing productive anyway.

Politicly motivated vandalism however...

God, I miss pandemic already.

P.S.

Nah, it's just been too hard to get your hands on any sizable amount of AN fertilizer since the feds put a ban on the stuff.

I would go with the good ole' semetex & gasoline method. You'd be suprised how a little gasoline can amplify the effect of explosives...

*Peaks out of blinds to see if feds are watching*

OMG! My new heroes. what a way to go out.

Great video for an excellent company. Hope they get together and start creating something else.

you'd think they'd be too worried about finding a new job to go out and waste time making a video. I'm with that analyst who thinks this is an inside job, a cash-in for that one EA CEO who's former Pandemic. I bet these guys are getting a good cut from him, so they think "fuck it, we'll just buy a new printer!"

A printer? Seriously? Why not the mainframe? Or one of the blade servers?

Don't get me wrong, I very much liked that toner-filled wanton destruction, but if my eleven year old development studio got closed down by some inhuman, greedy shithole of a company, I'd be doing more than just break a lousy printer...

Pandemic! It's in the name! Do some nasty biohazard stuff, like shit on the carpet or spread some flu around. Better yet, spread some virus, computer virus, that's be classy! THAT would've been the way to go!

cool video, tho i'm a bit two sided about it

the kid in me likes the destruction and the Gheto Boys

the network admin in me say "there's no way that HP printer is dead, they last for years" i've used way too many HP printers to know they are the best printers around

Classic tribute, loved it.

Aren't these the guys make that WW2 sandbox game with an Irish guy in Paris?
That game is still coming out, far as I know and these guys get fired?

Booze Zombie:

i think the game you're thinking about is saboteur, they fired everyone they didn't need to, to launch the game, which means although some people are briefly retaining their jobs until the game is launched, a majority of the people from the two studios (unfortunately one was Australian) were fired.

So what exactly has that poor printer to do with Pandemic being shut down by EA?

Funny lyrics :D

sweet they ended their jobs with a bang shame they couldnt have doent hat to the office though

RIP Pandemic.

But this actually made me a little teary eyed. Me and my dad love this movie and we watched it when he went into heart surgery. Now this scene is like our "Inside Joke"
