EA Announces New Medal of Honor ![]() A new Medal of Honor game is on the way and for the first time ever, the series is leaving the Second World War behind and moving to a more "modern" setting. The Medal of Honor franchise has been mired in the shadow of Activision's rival Call of Duty series for years now, all but forgotten in the frenzy over the Modern Warfare games and even Treyarch's more-successful-than-you-think World at War. But much like Popeye when he's finally gotten sick of taking crap from Bluto, EA has dusted itself off and said, "That's all I can stands, and I can stands no more!" Actually, what the company said is that it's "revitalizing" the franchise and true to its word, EA announced today that a new Medal of Honor title is in the works. This time around, no doubt inspired by the success of the Modern Warfare games, players will be sent to current-day Afghanistan as a Tier 1 Operator, "a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle." EA says it's been working with Tier 1 Operators from the Special Operations community since development of the game began to ensure the game offers "the most authentic modern war experience" possible. "When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today's war," said Executive Producer Greg Goodrich. "The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war. We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience." The new Medal of Honor will feature a single-player campaign created by EA Los Angeles, while EA DICE is developing the multiplayer side. "We are so proud to bring together two powerhouse development teams to make this game a reality," added EALA General Manager Sean Decker. "Medal of Honor promises to be an unforgettable entry in the modern shooter genre." Medal of Honor is currently in development for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, and is scheduled for release sometime in 2010.
It's like MW, but you won't be a faceless grunt half the time.
Oh this is just pathetic. They completely rip off Call Of Duty already to the nth degree, and now this? Seriously, this is worse than Chinese WoW clones.
How do they rip off CoD already when all their previous games have been set in WW2? OT: Sounds interesting, and more focused then the MW games.
Yay! MW rip off! I bet its going to suck balls. I'll be to busy playing MAG. Oh wait, i wont. Because its PS3 GAME!!! (Cries)
I'm actually looking forward to this, EA have a shot of making something pretty good here. Yes its a copy blah blah blah but hey mostly everything is ripping off everything these days (although that won't stop the quadrillion threads about it).
Aaaaaaand PRE-ORDER! | |
I have found the MoH games are a bit boring, they need a tune up.
Why is Sweet Johnson suddenly part of the MoH series? I can't see this helping MoH's sales ifthey do nothing to fix it's underlying problems, like repetitiveness, generic feel, crappy level design and so on. On the other hand, DICE is handling the multiplayer, which is an encouraging sign.
There's no way out Patterson! Memories of a better era, I lost interest entirely after Rising Sun, which was terrible. It's a shame since MOH was one of my first ever games.
Anyone who didn't see this coming, please proceed to slap yourself silly.
Does have that smell to it, thats for sure...
I admit that MOH did it first, and damn good it was, up until the Pacific one.
First real shooter I played was Medal of Honor for the playstation i still rember the demo like it was yesterday This game will hlep the players learn German with phrases such as (german) sigh COD and MOH is great and yea COD got the jump on Modern warfare gaming but MOH will most likely take MW2 and shove it up COD's rear end Thats why you don't mess with veterans You got that Activision Fact: Call of duty was released in 2003
Interesting, the tables have turned and now MoH is following CoD. Shame about the modern warface twist, but then again WW2 just isn't 'the kids' anymore. Also they have said "fuck sensible system of numerical bullsheet" and gone all no number on us.
I never much liked Medal of Honor games, but this may change my perspective. I'm sure the multiplayer will have a lot less cheaters on it than MW2, which is an added perk.
2005- The Battlefield series is updated from a World War 2 setting to a more modern era. That game is called Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, and has upgradable and customizable classes. 2007- The Call of Duty series is updated from a World War 2 setting to a more modern era. That game is called Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and has upgradable and customizable classes. 2009- The Medal of Honor series is announced to be receiving an update from a World War 2 setting to a more modern era, with multiplayer developed by the same guys who make the Battlefield series. Am I the only one noticing a pattern?
Well, I like the picture...I might concider this...
finally, were getting out the era of shite that was the common baddie was a nazi
Oh god... what MoH needs is something new, not just following others games. Series was good up till Rising Sun then it took a turn for the worst. (played Rising Sun and the one they brought out on the wii whatever it was called?) I'm betting guns will be a copy paste and same with multiplayer modes
I don't know whether to be excited or whether I should just sigh. Medal of Honor did bring a great improvement to the FPS genre when Frontline came out. That game was beyond awesome. The series could very well have continued to be a juggernaut if Rising Sun hadn't completely killed the momentum by being so bad! Call of Duty picked up right where Medal of Honor fell apart and, in my mind, is the worthy successor to the series. But apparently EA just couldn't understand that it was over and has continued to deface the Medal of Honor name even further. I don't know whether to say "EA what the hell are you doing?! Stop before you completely ruin Medal of Honor forever! NOOOOOO!!" or hold a tempered excitement. But in all probability, this will likely be a shameless clone of Modern Warfare 2. Damn you EA.
While I agree this is a rip off of MW MoH was on PS1, then had a MoH resistance on PS1, and then MoH AA for PC, before CoD came out.
And they were all damn good. But then that Rising Sun game came out and the series just when downhill completely.
Considering one could easily argue that Call of Duty originally took "inspiration" from A certain Medal of Honor I'd call that karmatically even. That said: Good fucking riddance to World War II. If we go a good 5 or 10 year stretch without ANOTHER WWII shooter it'll still be too soon. I'm quite curious to see how this goes.
I actually liked Airborne, seems like I'm the only one
I know, but doing a modern warfare version seems a bit stupid at this point. How about a Korean War Shooter? Or a Vietnam one? There hasn't been any good ones lately. Or perhaps go backwards, make a World War 1 shooter? Or maybe they could actually for once make a game about a war that didn't have the Americans in it? I'd happily play an Iran-Iraq war game.
/headdesk Great, ANOTHER modern-day shooter. Y'know, maybe there's a reason we were doing World War II for a while. Oh right, here it is, it's more fun to shoot nazis.
the guy on the box art has a big beard, this must mean it will be good
Great MW3, just what I wanted.
This goes to all who say EA is copying Activision. The team that started making Call of Duty first made Medal of Honor games with EA back in the late 90s. That team then left EA, founded IW and worked with Activision to create Call of Duty. The Medal of Honor games since Call of Duty released were not the best but to say that EA is copying Activision by making a modern shooter is quite funny considering Call of Duty was the creative continuation of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinity_Ward
Not just took "inspiration." It was the same 3 guys who made that game made the original Call of Duty! Why do people take offense when others try to copy what somebody else did and make it better? That is what World of Warcraft was. They took what was good in all other MMOs of the time and just did it better. For all you people know, the new Medal of Honor will take everything that is good about COD and make it better! The fall of COD is soon, games don't last more than one or two sequels before people get sick of it and move on to something else. Only the fanboys will stick to their guns and waste their money while the rest of us move on to a different better game.
Maybe they can bring this dead franchise back to life.
EDIT: Nvm. just see my previous post and you will get the jist of my remark... :P
I really hope they do this right.
I don't have a good feeling about this. It's a bit late to be jumping on the modern warfare bandwagon, don't you think MoH? Especially since you were on pretty thin ice with most of your games so far, in my opinion anyway.
Greaaat..... another boring as fuck brown WW2 game that we are desperately trying to get rid of. I hated MOH and I'm willing to bet I still will. It's just so.....boring.
