Aliens vs. Predator Hunter Edition Confirmed

The Aliens vs. Predator Hunter Edition has been confirmed for release in North America, a sweet set that will include nothing less than a fully articulated Facehugger.

After initially announcing the AvP Hunter Edition for the European market, Sega has now revealed that the special edition of the game will also reach American shores. Not only that, it'll actually include just a little bit more than its European cousin. The Hunter Edition will come with four multiplayer maps (in advance of their release to the general public), a Weyland Yutani sleeve badge, a 3-D lenticular postcard and, as an extra, non-European bonus, a hardcover graphic novel featuring the original Dark Horse Aliens vs. Predator comic.

But you don't really care about that, do you? No, there's only one thing in this box that's going to convince people to pop some extra bucks for it and that's the Facehugger, "a fully articulated and disturbingly creepy model" of one of moviedom's most famously disgusting oviparians. The pièce de résistance of the package doesn't appear to be as large as the real thing, but it sure is ugly.

Of course, all that awesomeness doesn't come cheaply; Gamestop has the Aliens vs. Predator Hunter Edition listed for a cool hundred bucks, as opposed to $59.99 for the standard edition. And if you're a PC owner, you might want to brace yourself for disappointment: Both Sega and Gamestop currently have the Hunter Edition listed only for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Aliens vs. Predator is scheduled for release in February 2010.

I want it...I want it for the Facehugger! So many pranks I can use that for! Sit it on my desk and scare my manager away!

Damn. And here I was hoping to save that extra $40...

Oh my, do want. DO want.

I don't have that kind of money.

I would buy it but if the Batman:AA special edition tought me anything, it's don't trust my want nerve.

Not for the PC edition? I could understand that with a general multi-platform series, but all previous AVP FPS's have been for the PC, that's a bit of a slap in the face for those fans.

I truly can't see the logic either, it's not like it costs any more to make.

Either way, I don't see myself buying the game any time soon. Too many other titles have my interest in the New Year.

I want it, but if it isn't available for the PC edition, they can shove it up their asses. I usually buy special editions, but I'll only buy shooters on the PC. Playing shooters with a controller sucks for me, I'm not going to spend $100 for a game I can't play well.

Want this game so bad

Facehugger, meh, don't care for toys

But this game is sweet-as

Very nice. But if I do get this I'll just get the normal version. I would like that facehugger though.

I can always buy th eface hugger at forbiddon planet! I just want that damn game! NOW!

I'm in the UK, I don't have a PS3 or Xbox, and I don't really care about the game. But DAMN I want that facehugger NOW!

Facehugger eh? Remember when everyone got excited for the Batarang? Yeah, me too.

Woo hoo, more useless crap to put in a cupboard.

I just cant get enough useless crap.

I'd get it for the cool stuff. Shame I just don't want the game.

Man, I couldn't sleep with one of those in my room. I'd be sticking with the normal version even if it was available for PC.

same here, BLASPHEMY I SAY! what makes developers think they can just give the PC a sub-par game, we must boycott them to give us the limited edition also! I mean it worked well with the L4D2 and MW2 boycott, it will work for this one too!

on a serious note, while it looks like it gives you a good ammount compared to the price, I cant help but think the art-book, dvd, and the toy should up the cost any, sure the comic and extra maps are a great addition, but I only see people gettign this for two reasons:

A) they want a face humper that bad.

B) they cant get the regular edition.

check after its release and if you want the toy so bad, you would be able to find it on Ebay, I promise, though you could get it for cheaper if you got the special edition one I guess.

Sweet Zombie Jesus on a Pogo Stick!

I want, but I don't know if I'd have the balls to open the package knowing what sits inside waiting for me.

I hope that make the box spring loaded so that when you open it that facehugger flies onto your face, that would be AWESOME!

The game and the graphic novel I'd want but the facehugger....keep that thing the hell away from me (seriously, I don't even want to see it, even that picture made me feel uneasy).

I would honestly punch someone if they came at me with it (although I would take the game afterwards, say thank you and appologise).

Awesome idea, but in the states surely that would be a lawsuit waiting to happen :p

Damn that's crazy, the facehugger scares me though...

Seeing as I already have that comic... Not bothered by the supposedly better US version.
Still getting Hunter edition in the UK however.

I want to go to there.

So...I guess they're 100% positive that this game will actually be commercially and critically successful?

Dont care about the toys, but am dissapointed that there will be in game stuff that you need to be rich to play, aka the maps.

I also think its a slap in the chops for the PC gamers... yet another previous PC game franchise goes console and kicks the old fans in the nuts in passing.
Seems developers forget very fast who got them to where they are, and only see players as a market pie chart.
(before the inevitable flames regarding PC gamers being elitist , I dont think the console is any less of a platform but am getting sick of seeing all the old PC franchises being made to console games , and then a PC port if your lucky...and usually a half arsed attempt at the port too)

As for boycotting ? Half the brats signing it will be first in line to buy it, dont know what a boycott really means... just like to bluff and the devs know it, thats why gamers opinions are safe to ignore.

This.

Even if I did buy it for the other stuff, the Facehugger would be going on ebay so fast.

im pretty sure all that is worth 40 bucks
so i might just dish out the dough

Sexcellent. Can't wait 'till I get my face-hug on.

I'm not that big of a model-collecter kinda guy, so I'll give this special edition a pass. Looking forward to the game, though. I hope this gets a good following online - it sounds like an absolute riot so long as there's enough people to play with.

Ehh, they probably worry that it wont sell enough on the PC to make all that extra content worth providing. Nobody wants a warehouse full of Facehuggers. Of course things like this are exactly what helps curb piracy, I know plenty of blokes who buy the more expenisve edition rather than pirating it for the extra stuff that comes with it.

I want the game but I don't really care about the extra stuff myself. The book looks cool and the map pack I'll end up getting anyway, but everything else just seems like a bit of a waste.

This here post is the biggest reason I want the facehugger. As uneasy as it makes me feel, there are people far more terrified of them, who would be targets for pranking. Ridley Scott may have given Giger's big black banana-head brute the spotlight, but it's the facehugger and a face full of alien wing-wong that scares people.

Eh, i will watch this thread closely for the laughs that will come from my fellow PC gamers complaining...

I wouldn't be able to go near the thing myself.

Rig the facehugger on a piece of string to fall when someone opens your door.

Do want. That would be brilliant for halloween....
wait for my flatmates to come in to my room, ill be lying on the kitchen floor spazzing out with it on my face. <3 uni.

I lol'd at that.

"Trick Or Treat!"

"Holy Shi-"

OT: Hunter Edition eh? The name is quite dull. It has no Predator merchandise might as well be called "AVP:Special Edition. Add a predator mask. That will get 'em rolling in.

I don't typically go in for collectors editions, but the facehugger might have convinced me otherwise.

I say might because they can take a long walk off a short pier if they think I'm purchasing or playing this on anything other than a PC - it's a bloody FPS!
