More Confirmation for Final Fantasy XIV on the Xbox 360

More Confirmation for Final Fantasy XIV on the Xbox 360

In what will surely come as absolutely no surprise to anyone who at all cares about Final Fantasy XIV, it has been further confirmed through of all things a developer profile (the profile has since been removed), that it will indeed be seeing an Xbox 360 release.

The decision for an Xbox 360 release has all but been explicitly stated for quite some time now. Last August, it was reported that Xbox Live's policies on internet use were delaying the release of the Xbox 360 version, with the PC and PlayStation 3 versions seeing an earlier release date.

The game's initial E3 announcement only mentioned release of Final Fantasy XIV on the PS3 and PC. "That doesn't mean that we're not going to have a 360 [version] in the future, but at the launch timing, yes, it's going to be Windows and PS3 only," Final Fantasy XIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka said in an August interview.

At this point, while it might not be completely official, there is little doubt that a release is at least in production. After all, with Final Fantasy XIII coming to Xbox 360, Sony's exclusive rights to the series have long since dried up. Final Fantasy XIV is expected some time this year, and with eleven months to go, that's a pretty large window.

I understand that you guys cover the new game releases and everything but enough Final Fantasy news already... seriously.

It's not like it matters. I played FFXI on the 360 and it was terrible.

Hopefully, they will fix their MMORPGs this time around.
I'll probably get it for my PS3, but I'm still undecided.

Let's hope FFXIV doesn't end up wherever Champions Online did when it tried to get on the 360... my brother bought his XBox for the superheroes MMO and it never came out.

What are you saying here?
What was the point of this?

The only thing this article contained was more "Confirmation" that there is "more confirmation" on previously existing speculation that Final Fantasy XIV will eventually make it's way to the Xbox, something I think most people already understand.

It lends nothing to the topic, provides no new information or insight, confirmation, denial, or otherwise. You could have labeled this "Final Fantasy XIV still probably coming to the Xbox 360.. Maybe" and accomplished the exact same thing, with or without an actual article posting to support the topic.

Geeez. And does it even matter in the end? Lets get some looks at the GAME first, because honestly, I could give two poops and a squirrel about whether a bad game is coming out on any system if the game sucks.

Multi-platform is the way everything should go.

Your Final Fantasy news has been very redundant of late, weather it's teasing about an FF7 remake or telling us the obvious of how many discs a games gonna come on, redundant information

So are we looking at four Final Fantasy games this year? or just the two?

True but I'll be surprised if XIV comes out for any platform this year.

Pretty aggresice opening tone, huh? Someone is obviously biased. None the less if it does come to 360 I hope they improve the way it operates

Multi-platform games are bland crap for the most part. I prefer the first-party exclusives where a company shovels money at a project to show off what their console hardware is capable of.

Um.. That's a weird concept because it's clearly been announced as a PS3 console-exclusive MMO, that happens to be for PC too.

It just wouldn't work for the 360, when you -really- look into the graphics.

Hell, I think I'd know about FFXIV details, seeing as I played FFXI (unfortunately) for about five years and I've constantly kept up on the FFXIV news/updates on the official website and the unofficial Eorzeapedia site.

@ToonLink, please stop saying words. Gamers have different favorite genres. Just shut up, if the news doesn't concern you, don't bother reading it. Others would like to know about it. Asshat.

To be honest... I'm starting to lose my love for Final Fantasy. It...just doesnt seem to deserve the popularity it receives. Sure, a good majority of the games are good...but so are other games like Earthbound,Shadow Hearts, and the Shin Megami Tensei series outside Persona.

You should know by now, buddy. If you're a member of The Escapist community, apparently you HAVE to hate Final Fantasy and all JRPG's ever made. Ever.

Eh, seeing as you're a friend and we're both on Xbox LIVE and Skype, wouldn't matter because FFXIV on 360 or PC would be awesome for us!

I tried to play XI but the installation was a shambles, I'd love to be able to play a Final Fantasy MMO and hope this is good.

Till then my Blood Elfs Chocobo will have to do.

I have heard the it's easier to port from the PS3 to 360 since the PS3 has more processing power. Anyway I most likely with be getting the PS3 version since there are more options for the HDD's maximum capacity.

I don't think anyone cares at this point. FF has beaten the dead horse far too long.

2 questions: 1. will the 360 version have a subscription fee, and 2. will the combat be turn based of will it be an MMO?

I am a HUGH Final Fantasy fan and I do play Final Fantasy XI, but I can honestly see XIV being a flop. The grind of earning exp wont be in the game which is why people play MMOs and the random stat boost system will drive people nuts. Plus the job system they're showing on the official site is more then enough to drive away players. Final Fantasy looks like it's death is coming very shortly. Final Fantasy XI didn't do well and only has cult followers, Final Fantasy XII had a bad story and was like an offline MMO in terms of battle, Final Fantasy XIII has no towns and bugger all NPC's and Final Fantasy XIV is an online game. I'm almost certain that Final Fantasy XV will be the FINAL Final Fantasy game and this is coming from a fan of the series who owns almost every version of every Final Fantasy released in Australia and some from overseas.

Please tell me this one will be multi-platformed like FFXI, otherwise I probably won't be that interested in FFXIV.

Seems that Square is back to square one with the FF series to be honest, it has got into a nice little groove where it can churn out FF merchandise and rake in the cash, but sooner or later the cow will run dry, the cash tree will fail to bear fruit and the horse will keel over and start to smell badly...

Square will need something that will make or break the company... and its the third time its been in this situation.
Prehaps seeing the bankrupcy ghost brings out the best in Square.

Back when it happened they still had certain key people who no longer work for the company anymore.

If you don't like reading about FF news then you don't have to. No-one forced you to click on the link. Don't come here just to complain because you don't like seeing something that most of us will actually find interesting. Myself included.

I'm kind of looking forward to this now, to be honest. I missed out on the whole FF XI wagon when it came around, and never had the chance to get into it. Now, since FF XIV is meant to also be an MMO, I'll definitely be getting it (since an FF MMO is one of the few MMOs I'm willing to pay a subscription fee for, unlike WoW). So the Xbox news is pretty good for me as a consumer, though I'll weigh it up against the PC an PS3 verions before I make any real choice in what to get.

I can see the logic behind releasing XIV on the 360 but I really don't think that it'll sell very well in comparison to PS3 and PC versions.

*Yawn*

I agree, seeing as it is P2P, I don't see many 360 owners paying to play FFXIV on top of paying for Live.

See that's what makes the United States great. I can say pretty much whatever I want without being persecuted by people like you. With that being said, I stand by my previous statement.

I hope it's being developed specifically rather than following the path of that god-awful, dysfunctional excuse for a port that was FFXI on 360.

I just hope consoles don't drag down the quality for FF XIV on PC.

I'm afraid it's a bit worse than that. There would seem to be a slowly but steadily mounting pile of evidence that would seem to strongly suggest that the 360s reliance on the DVD format is starting to hold multi-platform games back. The Lost Planet 2 situation is the latest example and it's highly unlikely that it will be the last.

The 360 is supposed to be a current generation platform but it's still using the last generations format. And now this is starting to cause some notable problems.

As far as the 360s lifespan is concerned it has an awful lot riding on Project Natal. If Natal doesn't produce the desired results than Microsoft may be forced to develop and release a new Xbox sooner than expected, hopefully with a better format, for the purpose of keeping up with the PS3.

In the meantime PS3 exclusives would seem to be the most promising way to go for the hardcore gamer.
