Cloud Mario Revealed for Super Mario Galaxy 2

Mario will get his fluffiest power-up ever in Super Mario Galaxy 2.

After becoming a bee, a flying racoon, and a caped superhero, Mario is finally ready to take a trip through the clouds as a cloud. As uncovered by Official Nintendo Magazine UK, Mario's latest power-up revealed for Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the ultra fluffy Cloud Mario.

Currently, details are sparse on Mario's new suit made from evaporated water droplets typically suspended in the atmosphere until they amass into precipitation. I'm hoping that it'll be cumulus, but you never know, it could be cirrus or altostratus. On another note, why are clouds so happy in the Mario games?

Though only rumored at this point, according to NeoGAF players will point at the screen with the Wii Remote to draw clouds while Mario is in cloud form. Mario will then jump from cloud to smiling cloud.

Nintendo just keeps coming up with ways to make Mario cuter. For the sake of all that is holy, Cloud Mario even wears a necklace of clouds and a neat cloud hat. I would make out with him if I could.

I'll say what I said when I found out about it yesterday:

Isn't that cute? BUT ITS WRONG!

Poor mario. What will they do to you next.

They'll dress him as a bumblebee! Wait...

Ok, that's not one of their better ideas; but being able to create platforms wherever you want does sound like a pretty cool idea, regardless of what framing device they use for it.

I didn't play Galaxy 1, and I am not getting Galaxy 2.

They should make more Mario games with him jumping into paintings Ala Super Mario 64, that was a cooler concept

When I read this I thought, ALRIGHT! TIME FOR THE STAY PUFF MARSHMALLOW MAN!

lol, he's all poofey. anyways, i wonder how they will make the cloud drawing technique work well, hopefully its not like those freedraw parts in drawn to life: the next chapter

AHHH!
Shhhhh!
Dont call him here or we will all be doomed!

And yet... Peach still won't sleep with him. He's literally grabbing collecting the stars for her... she's such a bitch. I'm imagining a game where he finally snaps and kills her.

Too late...

*RAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!*

Quick! Call the Stay Crunchy Graham Cracker Man and the Stay Sweet Chocolate Bar man!

OT: That's kinda cool. But I don't think I'd make out with it, as said at the end...

Hahahahaha, that show...

On topic, I think Mario Star Powered through a Car wash and this was the result. That's what he looks like to me anyways. When do we get Bizzaro Mario or Cyber Mario? :P

Oh the cloud in the sky cloud! I had something else in mind completely.

When I read the tittle I thought to myself "Holy crapcicle! They're going to ANOTHER game tie in like SSBB, but with FF7?!?" But then I was disappointed... or relieved, I wasn't too sure. :P

Anyway, I'm not entirely sure that adding new outfits is really necessary. Nintendo, why don't you just make Mario the way he is rather than constantly trying to add something new that will inevitably be stupid? We'll still love him... or at least I will. :P

So you wouldn't play a game because the 4 second method of travel to the next world/level is different. That is being picky to the max.

Super Mario 64: Jump in a painting, 4 seconds after a level title is show, you are in the other dimension world.

Super Mario Galaxy: You get shot through space, 4 seconds of flying and the level title it shown, you are on another planet which is the world your level is on.

You must be the type of gamer that the game developers fear, the type that won't play a game because there is a slight unimportant difference in a game.

I actually liked Super Mario Galaxy better than Super Mario 64. Galaxy took platforming to a whole new level. I think it is pretty amazing that I don't have to play on a relatively flat uninteresting level, and instead I get to have a world that as multiple sections and I can start out walking in a straight line at point A and then arrive at point A again with out turning back. Yeah, they didn't do that with every level, but it made the game more fun when the levels were changed up for different types every few and sometimes every level.

Super Mario 64 was great for its time, but in the gaming world today, that style of level making is out of date. If a developer made levels like that today, I would call them unoriginal or lazy for not trying to make some new and exciting.

I didn't read your whole post, it was pretty long and I think what I am about to say will make it irrelevant.

The reason I don't play Galaxy is because it is on the wii, I don't like the motion controls, I had the N64, loved the N64, and that's why I loved Super Mario 64

The headline confused me.
I thought you meant this Clou-

THIS Cloud:
But this looks incredibly fun. Drawing just like Okami.
Also, it's time to cross streams for a fluffy mess:

... ... ...Is it sad I want the cloud hat? Not on Mario, but on me.

...I wanted Mario as Cloud with a big wrench instead of the Buster sword, hell, you could call it a BUSTER WRENCH.

He would eat driffrent mushrooms that gives him powers.

Rosen2012:
... ... ...Is it sad I want the cloud hat? Not on Mario, but on me.

No...I want it as well...so damn much.

So, if the suit is made of cloud...
Is he pulling a naked-in-everything-but-appearance thing like Bayonetta?

Dr. wonderful:

Glad I am not alone on that.

Cool idea, but do the clouds look like the bushes?

As long as its better than Boo Mario, ill be happy.

Haha I love that hat!... but the last game was boring.

CoverYourHead:
Oh the cloud in the sky cloud! I had something else in mind completely.

Yup. Yup. Damn it. Now I feel let down.

So... mario joins the Klan then?

So let me get this straight, people complain that Mario is too samey then they complain when new powerups are added. You can't have it both ways. With that in mind I suggest maybe people just stop complaining altogether because it's obvious that nobody knows what they want.

Another costume added to Mario's wardrobe :I
A god damn walk-in wardrobe.

I guess nintendo doesn't want to Cloud it's vision to the customers this time around, they seem to bee giving a lot of info out!

They better have some damn good Physicians behind the workings of this cloud suit.

Sounds like it could be fun.

But it looks a little silly.

Hold on, Its mario....It is silly.

The new power seems interesting, but it seems like Nintendo is spreading themselves a little thin on the power-ups. Of all the power-ups in SMG, only the Bumblebee Mario was given a decent run. It was used in multiple levels, and each level wanted you to do something slightly different with it. After that is where they stopped being interesting. Boo Mario was interesting in concept, but they never did anything with it. It was used in 2 levels; the first of which you used it for maybe 10 seconds to go through a couple barred gates that could just as easily have not been there, and the second level to use it was just a boring race to see how fast you can drift down a corridor.

From there we get to the two Flower-based power-ups of opposite elements. Ice Mario was interesting, I'll grant that, but the time limit was completely unnecessary. Mario gained no added offense or defense in Ice Form. It was purely a mobility power so I don't see why they couldn't have taken out the theme that plays and just let it run infinite. And while Fire Mario was fun to play with, it was so powerful that it HAD to be on a time limit otherwise you could destroy everything in the level. In both cases though you were never really given any time to actually play around with the power-ups since it was a race to finish whatever it was you had to do with them. Any dilly-dallying and you'd have to backtrack and re-gain the power.

Spring Mario was just horrible. I'm sorry, but a power-up that can basically be summed-up as "And this level is hard because your controls suck" isn't a power-up that should make it off of the drawing board. I'm sure that Spring Mario has its supporters, but the bottom line is that this is an annoying power-up. And then there's the Red Star (Flying Mario?). It had a VERY cool level to unlock it where you could fly around the tiny Gateway Galaxy to collect the coins. It feels cumbersome at first, but really flows once you get to learn it... then that's it. The game congratulates you and says that you can use this power in other places now, YAY!! Except wait... by "other places" you only mean the outside area? And I can only use it to reach a couple of 1-up Mushrooms (in a game where 1-ups are rewarded like candy)? Boo!

So yeah. With Mario Galaxy we were given one power-up out of about 5 that got good spotlight time, and now they're throwing 3 or 4 more power-ups into the mix?

Not that bad... Could be a lot worse and the game is meant for kids, on a kids console.

WhiteTigerShiro:
And I can only use it to reach a couple of 1-up Mushrooms (in a game where 1-ups are rewarded like candy)?

On that note, Mario games need difficulty levels. Turn it up to Hard to cut out 75% of the 1-ups.

Or just get rid of the extra lives all together. It's not like losing all of them comes with any considerable punishment. There really hasn't been any point in them since Super Mario World introduced the ability to save your progress to the series.

More sparse 1-ups and some kind of special level you have to fight yourself through to earn a "continue" could work.

Also, I'd like the return of permanent power-ups that aren't necessary to complete the levels, but simply there to make things easier. We haven't seen that at all in the 3D games, as I recall.
