It's the All-Star Porn Star Piracy PSA Video!

A sharp decline in DVD sales has brought some of the porn industry's biggest stars together in an anti-piracy PSA showing them in a rather unfamiliar light: With their clothes on.

Piracy is a pretty common topic of discussion around these parts, but those conversations are usually limited to its impact on videogames. There's another multi-billion-dollar industry that's suffering the effects of illegal copying, however: Pornography, which has seen a sharp decline in DVD sales driven by counterfeiting and so-called "tube" porn sites on the internet. Reliable numbers aren't available because most porn companies are privately held but the Adult Entertainment Trade Association, part of the Free Speech Coalition, claims DVD sales are down by at least a third.

In response, the industry has produced an All-Star Anti-Piracy PSA video featuring performers like Kaylani Lei, Sinnamon Love, Alektra Blue, Will Ryder, Cousin Stevie, Charlie Laine and of course, the one and only Ron Jeremy. But don't expect to see them peeling down and getting nasty: Instead, they talk about the impact that illegal copying has on the industry and the many people who work in it.

"What we're trying to communicate in these new videos is that this is not just hurting the big companies like Larry Flynt, but the people who work in production, the performers, the sideline businesses like makeup artists," Joanne Cachapero, the coalition's membership coordinator, told Wired. "Piracy is really a problem for our industry in terms of dropping revenues. This is what we're trying to communicate to the consumer."

The porn business lags far behind the recording and mainstream movie industries in terms of anti-piracy efforts but Cachapero said many producers have recently begun using new "fingerprinting" technology to track online copyright infringement and may bring lawsuits against offenders. In the meantime, this PSA and another more light-hearted clip starring a solo Charlie Lane give us all something to think about the next time we're "consuming."

I saw a documentary on porn, and porn-tube sites are KILLING the industry. The internet did enough damage, but those really brought the hurt.

Doesn't porn still make more than holywood anyway its not like they are going to be out of work

Funky... That's all I can say really. Funky.

Ron Jeremy has convinced me to never illegally download porn ever again.

He Played Mario.

Oh no, we might lose an industry filled with nothing but fakeness. Fake bodies, fake sex, and terrible acting. The only thing that will be missed if the Hollywood porn industry goes under is the tax revenue.

If people don't have money they aren't gonna pay 20 bucks for a DVD when there's something for free on the internet.

Is it sad that I know more than half of those people?

I don't see how this is relevent here, I thought this entire website was revolving around gaming, not what downloaders do to hurt the porn industry.

If they all fall, we still have homemade porn. x]

YES. Very, very, very, very sad.

Meh. The internet ruined it long ago. Like the DVD and music industry, it's gubbed.

They really shouldn't have trotted out the ones with completely plastic faces. It's bad enough they want me to take a porn star seriously, but ones that look like they have puffy faces from some terrible allergic reaction? Pah.

I Hit it With My Axe

One of the girls from the PSA is in the show.

Interesting, never realized that. The face never ringed a bell with me. But still, the consumers aren't hurt by this.

Why pay $20 for 4 minutes of entertainment 8)

You've taken the words out of my mouth.

Unfortunately porn is a very disposable medium after you've seen a movie once or twice you lose interest in it and want to see something else and if every time you pay the very expensive prices (most seem to cost at least 25 euros a dvd and a lot are up to 50 euros for one disc of something you might only watch a few times and might not even like)you'd be broke real soon.

If you factor in the generally low production costs you'd see that they were making incredible profits for decades

AkJay:

I know two thirds of them.

Dude, those porn stars are FUGLY. Maybe i just don't watch enough porn but those are not the best lookin people out there... At least not the ones i want to be wackin it to.

The male gay porn stars are so much more attractive.

But I see what they mean, i mean i'm a total hater of illegal video games, suppose it is a bit hypocritical to illegaly get other things.

Speaking from experience there buddy?

I call it the "Piracy Clocktower Tax".

Lets pretend we know person A. Person A has a shitty job, and it worries him about job security, and he's "trying" as normal people do to better himself. Not always the sharpest tack with all the luck. Person A deals with many people a day, handling money, dealing with shitty people, dealing with annoying things, hell, he might have a really important job that needs to keep his focus.

Person A goes home, and he pirates porn, music, movies, and games. Why? Because when he's doing his shit job, waiting on the bus, listening to stupid people, etc, he needs his music to keep him company, the games and movies to make him laugh, and the porn to satisfy his lust affairs. He can't afford these things.

What would happen if Person A couldn't have any of this? He'd climb a clocktower with a brand new sniper rifle and take aim...

In all seriousness though. I've thought many a time what would happen if we didn't just donate a little of what we create to keep the world happy. I'm not sure I've seen enough evidence that piracy has killed anything. People pay for and support what they like. Some just choose not to for whatever reason.

The porn industry... go under...? Because of piracy? LOL whatever.

I'm more likely to listen if they tell me naked. but with the quality of those porn stars... not so much...

My indifference is blistering. 99.99% of all porn produced by the porn industry is just atrocious and I can't stand it. I find the idea of someone paying for it bizarre. Professional porn could disappear tomorrow and I wouldn't miss it. The whole industry can go to Hell.

Thank God I don't know any of them.

Yeah, they want prices of a normal movie (that costs at least 5-10 million dollars) for what... 6 or 7 hours of "work" per DVD and about $2000 in expenses? Yeaaah.

100 people buy it for $25 each, you're making a profit.

Why pay money for bad porn when I can use the money to take my girlfriend out to a nice dinner and (hopefully) get something better than porn?

The porn industry is founded on so much bull.

They're threatening that the porn industry will die off if DVD sales don't pick up... somehow I doubt the porn industry is ever going away, whatever its financial state.

Umkay.. And theres tons of free porn out there thats not pirated. Its just free with ads and links to paid stuff. Quite frankly, its better looking than those hosers in the PSA. Take your plastic (faces) elsewhere.

The "industry" part will probably disappear soon enough, thanks to the Internet. Then there'll just be porn.

Ha, you've got to be kidding me..

the market's flooded with better looking amatures do it for free!

looks like you're screwed, porn industry! XD

DVD porn movies are a thing of the past. Why do performers in the adult entertainment business refuse to understand that the only way to gain profit by continuing to do what they're doing is by posting their videos on the internet free of charge with a few dozen adds showing up on the page with their profits coming exclusively from those adds and some sort of "special" subscription fee process giving people access to full length videos?

Lou Albano?

also, where is your argument now, pirates?

Is it just me, or is everyone in that video really unattractive? Like, downright ugly.

Oh. No. The "porn industry" no longer has exclusive distribution or creation rights on the recordings of consenting adults engaged in sexual acts.

This is horrible.

Piracy is not killing porn. On any tracker or *tube site devoted to pornography, the most popular videos are homemade or amateur. Rarely does anything professional get even a tenth of the views/downloads of anything homemade/amateur.

This is simply professional porn feeling sorry for itself. This can't even be half-assedly argued (read: the best any anti-piracy argument can be) to be a genuine case of piracy hurting an industry, as there is far too much evidence that unequivocally states no one is interested in "professional" pornography anymore.

AkJay:
Is it sad that I know more than half of those people?

I hope not, I knew most of the women, and Ron Jeremy of course.
