GameStop Test Drives PowerUp Rewards Program

Meh, point systems rarely work. They didn't even say what the points can be used on. Epic fail.
There is only one card that uses points that I keep track of and thats tbe one for groceries that gives money off gas.

For all asking/wondering, in my humble opinion, Lamestop is evil because they are greedy money mongers who take advantage of their loyal customers. They first time they take advantage of you is when you try to sell your used games. At which point they offer you next to nothing for the game, while explaining that it's old/undesirable/poorly rated. Then, the next time they take advantage, and when you really begin to feel victimized is when you visit the store again later in the week, to find your exact previously owned copy what Whatever III: The Whatevering, for sale in the used games section at a freaking 600% markup over what they paid you for it. You notice that this supposed loyalty program offers a bigger "discount" on used product than it does on new? Thats because the margins are so massive, due to the routine screwings they give their clientele when buying/selling used games. Then, the third way they take advantage is when a new game comes out and they charge $10 - $20 more the said game then Fry's, Best Buy or wherever. Lamestop blows.... And not the good kind of blowing, either!

I would normally thin the typical GS employee is rather standoffish, but when you get questions like "I purchased this PS2 game...why is it not working on my Xbox?" I have to cut them a little slack. No really, my friend got this question asked to him back when he worked there :0

god. what's with the gamestop hate? mine in my local mall is practically perfect. they only ASK if you have any games you're looking forward to to reserve.

Yeah thats not the case for the majority of people.

it's the EMPLOYEES to blame, not the company as a whole.

Yeah I know, never said it was the company.

The challenge seems to be in having the employees get the customers excited about having a points card. The edge card itself is pure instant gratification, saving a dollar on the ten for used stuff. People still turn it down even when it means keeping a ten dollar bill in their wallets. The Edge insentive itself in my eyes is an awesome method for loyalty, should the benifits manage to communicate properly.

One could muse that they are attempting to add this new insentive as a way to 'dumb down' a loyalty program so that customers will see a program they already sorta understand, as they already DO have cards like this from every other retailer (big box, clothes etc).

Heres to trying :)

GameStop is now testing a program called PowerUp Rewards which will give gamers more reason to put up with store employees hassling them about reserving games that don't come out for six months.

Single biggest reason I don't go in them these days. This sounds cool if they keep selling PS2 games I want for dirt cheap, but I bet the amount of points you need is ridiculous.
