Halo 3 Outsells PS3's Heavy Hitters Combined

According to Microsoft, Halo 3 alone has outsold six of Sony's biggest PS3 titles all put together.

Just in case your week hadn't had enough pointless fanboy bickering thus far, here comes some perfect flame-bait material: Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft's Director of Product Management for the Xbox 360, recently Tweeted that according to NPD numbers, 2007's Halo 3 had been one hell of a success - which, to be fair, anyone with half a brain already knew.

Not only had Halo 3 been a smash hit, it had been more of a smash hit than some of Sony's most highly-acclaimed games - all put together. Quoth Greenberg:

"Just in from research team (NPD): Halo 3 has outsold Resistance 1 + 2, Uncharted 1+2, Killzone 2 and God of War III COMBINED....wow[.]"

Now, nobody's trying to make a statement of quality here, though Greenberg probably hopes you'll make a mental correlation between the two - he's just talking about sales. And, for whatever reason, it seems that PS3 games never do quite reach the fiscal success of their Xbox 360 counterparts - go figure, right?

Oh well. Hey Aaron, want to compare Halo 3's sales to those of the Wii's biggest titles next? Probably not.

Not really surprising, PS3 attach rate can't be very good, most people I know bought one because they were 1/2 the price of a BluRay player.

Wow,halo beat 6 games? just wow...

Thats not even a remotely fair compararison,, God of War three only just come out didnt it?

Ohhh no he didn't. (I got a copy of Halo for 5 bucks, it was a damaged box for the collectors edition, they charged me 5 bucks, eat that microsoft =P)

PS3'S are in most cases more expensive hence less sales hence less games sold.

OT: Awesome for Microsoft! I guess.....

I don't mean to deflate Halo's success but that list is missing MGS4...

Talk about comparing sizes. And now Microsoft has officially started the competition for the e-peen great company award, except that they don't have Kevin Butler.

On a sidenote didn't Uncharted and God of War 3 sell like cupcakes on a sunday morning?

It's perfect flame-bait material indeed.

I hate it when companies are acting like their fanboys. Microsoft, Bioware, etc...

Note* Before you flame me, check the headlines from a few weeks ago.

Make sure no fanboys hear about this or it'll spark a flame war to end all flame wars
Other than that, though, something for bungie to brag about I guess.

Well its not fair considering its 1 VS 6.

Would 7 games make this much more impressive??

It might have something to do with not as many people owning PS3s. The xbox is just an easier to access console, but the PS3 has somewhat more sophistication about it.

Of course, they'll never beat the PC master race

/fanboyism

McDonalds outsells every 5 star restaurant in the planet combined by several orders of magnitude.

Is this even a fair comparison? For one, most people are aware that not nearly as many people own a PS3 as they do 360s. Two, Halo 3 has been out for ages, whereas some of the PS3 titles listed are very recent. Of course PS3 games don't often match up to 360 games, because of the aforementioned unbalanced numbers in console ownership.

Was this whole thing even necessary for Microsoft to do?

It makes sense, really. PS3s haven't sold as much as 360's and Halo is a flagship for the console, and many players that wouldn't even recognize the name of any of the games on Sony's list know about Halo.

And I laughed at your ending comment, Mr. Funk. Well played.

Well, no surprise there, will it be same in 2 years time though?

[Flame] but, just because it sells well doesn't mean it's any good[/Flame]

Mr.Wiggles:

Just what I was going to say. That was probably bigger than either Resistance game, and GoWIII only just came out, so it's bound to not have sold as much as MGs or Uncharted.

the reason it sells so much cause people have to buy multiple copies I'm on my 3rd i think. They break real easy in the 360 cause even if you move it a inch it just scratches the disk beyond anything playable

makes sense, the xbox is a cheaper system to buy, more xbox's have sold, and the halo franchise is the definite xbox franchise ( the only reason I bought my 360 was for halo 3)

and we all know that the ps3 got off to a rocky start with it's high entry costs and trouble with exclusives

Heh, that's actually pretty humorous. I've never seen it broken down like that, but that's a metric fuckton of Halo 3 discs when you think about it.

Well, I suppose it can never end. Sony had litterally just stopped flaming Microsoft and the 360. And to think, I thought there was a chance we'd get some peace.

You know what they say, "mediocrity sells".

Oh I'm sorry, did I sound like a fanboy there?

I forgot the amount of sales dictated how good a game is.

Meaningless statistics ftw! Silly MS and their advertising.

Who cares. All we want to know is which A list celebrities they are going to wheel out at their press conference this year to insincerely pretend they give a flying one about video games.

That's the case with any console. Not that I'm defending Halo here...I freaking hate that series. But try flipping a PS3 OR Wii upright while a disc is spinning in the tray and see what happens. You don't move your console while playing something. Simple as that.

I dont care about the overall result either way it just seems like he is presenting the data in such a way as to cause massive troll infestation.

Heres one, In Japan MGS4 outsold all the Halos, Gears of War, Forza fablesetc, I just guessed that but its probably true :). My point is that only a fickle mush head would get excited by it

There is only a 5 million console difference in systems sold. The Problem is that every game that Sony sells as a system seller usually drops off after the first month. GoW3 sold over a million copies in month one. in Month Two something in the ball park of 150,000. not exact numbers of course but one hell of a drop off. The Real question is why dosent anyone buy their games. I have a PS3 and have zero games on it. I sold both GoW3 and UC2 after about a week owning them.

It's a meaningless number said in a way that suggest it isn't. It's a lot like what Fox News routinely does when it comes to Obama. "We're not saying he's a terrorist, but he used to hang out with this guy who used to be a terrorist...that's all we're saying"

Ahhh the pre-E3 flamebait.
Nobody does it like MS.

Really this isn't too surprising. Halo has a lot of rabid fanboys.
Also doesn't the 360 have a disc eating problem? There are probably a lot of people who had to buy it twice.

My Warhawk disc still works but if my ps3 decided to sandpaper it, I would probably buy it again.

Great, more fuel for the console war fire.

It is rather notable I guess.

Ninja Tank:

Why are you moving your 360 when it's running a disc? If you rotate any machine with an extending (Xbox 360 type) or pulling (Wii type) disc drive while it's running the disc the disc will be scratched.

Plus pretty much any movie/game rental store or electronics retailer will be able to polish away scratches making the disc playable again for a small fee.

Nice final remark, Mr. Funk. As much as I love Halo, this guy was being a prick bragging about its sales.

Did you say Halo 3 was McDonalds while those games were 5 star restaurants? Resistance 1 was good, 2 was meh, both the Uncharteds were ruined by the main character, KZ2 had good multiplayer balanced by boring, cliched single player, but GoW 3 was great.

Winner. This is rather pathetic that game developers need to value themselves this way.

It is surprising when you consider how easy it would be for a sony fanboy to just throw in something about how many playstations 1,2 and 3 combined were returned for spontaneously breaking for no good reason though

Regardless of what any of you saying "God Of War has been out for a month" it has still sold more than 5 other massive games that Sony was adamant on and that for almost any game is impressive

No, I didn't. Read the paragraph carefully. But it seems like I did, right? I just threw in a random meaningless number that seems to suggest something.
