Internet Approves .XXX Domain Just for Porn

If you're interested in setting up a new porn site, the .xxx domain is officially open for business for all of your smut-tacular needs.

If you've ever wanted to penetrate into the porn industry and set up your very own web site, up until now you've had to make do with the most common web domains just like us regular Johnsons: .com, .org, .net and possibly a .edu here and there for some spicy co-ed action (though you'd also have to be, uh, an accredited institution of learning for that one).

Not anymore!

ICANN, the corporation that coordinates the whole internet naming thing, recently approved the .xxx top-level domain for, you guessed it, porn sites. While the use of .xxx TLD is completely optional (and let's face it, if you have a really good porn site name already you won't want to get rid of it), ICANN representatives say that the new domain provides "a place online for adult entertainment providers and their service providers who want to be part of our voluntary self regulatory community."

It also gives parental access-blocking programs a nice "catch-all" blanket to make it harder for little Timmy to get a look at internet ta-tas.

So does this mean if I wanted to make a Vin Diesel porn site, I could register the domain xxx.xxx?

This should make it easier for parents to spot when their kids have been "up to something".

Wow, that video was one of the first things I saw on the internet back in the day. It's been a while.

I bet some people will cyber-squat and try to sell off the domain name. Heck, I might do it.

Excellent. Now we can do...

Man, WHAT DOES THIS ACHIEVE?

Calumon: How should I know? I have a blindfold on!

That is exactly the first thought I had as well. Pretty much makes cases against sexual deviancy easier to convict people as well.

You too, huh? I was actually considering just looking it up again for nostalgia's sake. Now I don't have to.

You, sir, are a terrible person for making that joke. And I am an even worse person for laughing at it.

Ummm.... Huzzah?

I think it's a little strange that ONE company regulates the ENTIRE internet's names though.

Ha-Ha-Ha!
*High Five*

If I ever set up my own music company, I'm definitely going to register a .xxx domain just because, well, because I can.

I suppose now we can go ahead and have any domain we choose? If so, I want a .lol address.

Someone could make a lot off money off this very quickly, cybersquatter ho quick someone register as many sites as possible containing hole, sex or giraffe.

They should have done this ages ago.

This is a good move, though.

Really now? A blindfold? Everyone knows double eyepatches are the way to go.

I guess this would make it easier to be blocked by parental locks? Instead of blocking all sites which just sound like porn sites, they automatically get locked out simply if they have .XXX at the end of them?

Now this is what I call redundant. Oh well...

I'm fairly certain someone's already bought up that domain. Whether or not they intend to use it for Vin Diesel porn, I really can't say.

You can't use .edu unless you are an accredited university, its very strictly regulated...in the US at least.

PeopleĀ are likely making dozens of sites like this now to get the big name porn sites to pay to change to .xxx.

So this will either work well for people to easily catch porn sites and make some people a lot of money, or just do nothing and flub.

Same here, plus a friend of mine downloaded the song on his phone, and then played it at every opportunity. It was So Annoying.

OT: Still, that is probably a sensible move, and with the parental controls in place it should soften the whole "Internet is corrupting our poor kids" argument. Not as if that argument isn't already flawed.
And shame on you for that Vin Deisel porn joke. I already have enough nightmares.

This is interesting. Now I know who to petition when I want to get my own domain. Though, I have to say, I am a bit disappointed they didn't go with .cum. I know, bad joke is bad.

wow, it actually took this long?

I think I've made a comment like this before, but I'm not sure so I'll make it again.

This is a videogame site, a site for gamers, what does porn have to with that?!?

Edit: Since when does Sony have the rights to "The Internet is for Porn"? Because it says that the video is not available in my country because of that.

Well, I knew they were trying to get this done forever, and now that they have, I guess it takes away the lame excuse of "oops I didn't know it would take me there"

Unless you use the random website button.

In other news, in its about frigging time land, Duke Nukem Forever was released!

Not a god damn thing.

..Smoothest part of that entire article. Props for you, John. Props for you.

Completely useless.

All sites are not going to voluntarily move to the .xxx domain. They might open up another address there, but they won't leave their existing URLs.

They want traffic. They want you to stumble on their sites and never leave. That's why they pick names that are really close to "real" (i.e. non-porn) sites, and that's why they open up a zillion pop-ups when you get there.

Probably the only two things it'll do is:
1) Make it easier for those looking for porn to find it (not like it's hard to do in the first place), and
2) Give parents/schools/libraries/etc. a false sense of security when they block ".xxx" and think they've blocked all porn.

Well, yeah, but considering the ratio of porn to anything else in terms of # of pages, you've got better chances getting a porn page randomly than losing at russian roulette.

Well, I suppose with everyone been allowed to choose there own now it was only natural. Well, now you know what your in for with a website I suppose!

Um... Yay?
Seems a bit like wasted effort to me

By that logic you should also be questioning what the Twilight star 'potentially' being related to Vlad the Impaler, or the creation of a bionic cat have to do with the site's core premise. It's just news about something cool/weird/unusual/related in some way to the internet/etc.

"If you've ever wanted to penetrate into the porn industry..."

...I see what you did there!

"Grab your dick and double click for porn...porn...porn!"

I guess that makes sense. It's just that there seems to be at least one news post about porn each day, which is kind of weird.

Teenagers will no matter what restriction, always get access to hardcore porn. I am a prime example of that. Evading DNS settings and entire bans because I was simply a kid growing in a digital age. Well, fun times, fun times.

Hahaha, that's excellent.

this is the internet. For it to represent any kind of internet and digital culture porn MUST be present almost all the time. Rule 34. Lol

So are all pron sites being renamed to www.pornsitename.xxx or are the staying the same and then new sites are getting the .xxx?
