John Funk:

It also gives parental access-blocking programs a nice "catch-all" blanket to make it harder for little Timmy to get a look at internet ta-tas.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO- oh come on I was kidding... Don't look at me like that I was kidding... Hey, guys, where are you going?

HK_01:
I think I've made a comment like this before, but I'm not sure so I'll make it again.

This is a videogame site, a site for gamers, what does porn have to with that?!?

Edit: Since when does Sony have the rights to "The Internet is for Porn"? Because it says that the video is not available in my country because of that.

The Escapist has never been JUST a videogame site. If it were just a videogame site, we wouldn't have an anime review section, a movie review series, or tabletop gaming columns.

It's a site about escapism and gamer/nerd/internet culture. Most of the time, our news revolves around games, yes, but a lot of the time it also revolves around "stuff that we think is cool and we think our audience will think is cool/interesting, too."

Deiphagia:
So are all pron sites being renamed to www.pornsitename.xxx or are the staying the same and then new sites are getting the .xxx?

It's just for people who want to use it because they're feeling nice. Just like .com is only for commercial companies and .net for ISPs and .org for nonprofits and no one has ever violated those suggestions and I have a nice bridge to sell you if you believe that.

URLs that will be bought up DAMN fast:
google.xxx
(any celebrity name).xxx
ooo.xxx
goatse.xxx

John Funk:

[right]

Hahaha... you couldn't resist posting that could you?

THE INTERNET COUNCIL OF ELDERS HATH SPOKEN, IT IS LAW.

John Funk:
If you've ever wanted to penetrate into the porn industry...

Oh god.

John Funk:
...up until now you've had to make do with the most common web domains just like us regular Johnsons...

Oh, god.

You had way too much fun writing that.

My very first thought on reading this thread was "Who's gonna mention Avenue Q first?"

John Funk:

So does this mean if I wanted to make a Vin Diesel porn site, I could register the domain xxx.xxx?

You'd have to beat Vin Diesel to it.

So now I just need to find a way to block that entire domain... :o

Jack and Calumon:
Excellent. Now we can do...

Man, WHAT DOES THIS ACHIEVE?

Calumon: How should I know? I have a blindfold on!

Poor Calumon...how old is Calumon? I mean, in it's years? Just wondering...and how can you tell if you didn't get it at birth?

Might I recommend against penetrating the online porn industry? You might catch something...use protection.

Lord George:
Someone could make a lot off money off this very quickly, cybersquatter ho quick someone register as many sites as possible containing hole, sex or giraffe.

No, you sneaky bastard! Now I can never open my dream site, sexygiraffehole.xxx. How did you know?

Shoulda been .cum!

Holy crap, another chimp!
OT: Will this actually affect anything? Like, anything at all?

I do love the way this article is titled. Makes it sound like the Internet is governed by some kind of grand council. Which it just might be.

Personally I think all porn sites should be forced to use this and be on a completely seperate part of the net that you have to log in somehow.

Would save my wrists a lot of bother I know that!

Strangely, I approve of this. Why? Because I know people who (and I, once, unfortunately) type in a site url and it turns out it was a porno site but you (or me that one time) thought it was something else entirely.

It's not like porn infests your mind and turns you into a horrible person.

OT: Giving that only "new" sites will use the .xxx thingy, little Timmy will easily have access to porn. Besides, who the fuck doesn't know how to bypass proxies?

You keep Calumon around while you...
OT: It was going to happen 'parntly around 1/3 of the internet is porn...

That would be the internet itself. It has the incredible ability to turn anyone and anything into a bitter, bitter human.

That's certainly true, I often think about completely disconnecting my internet but what else would I do with my life? plus it's actually quite hard to avoid it these days.

dragontiers:
This is interesting. Now I know who to petition when I want to get my own domain. Though, I have to say, I am a bit disappointed they didn't go with .cum. I know, bad joke is bad.

Damn, I must really suck then, because I laughed pretty hard at this.

Jack and Calumon:

This

I guess they finally ran out of .com's

Well, this seems kinda pointless. I just see this benefiting those parents who looks through their kid's computer history.

If they were forced to change to .xxx, I won't be able to access niche porn sites on a public connection because the filters will be 100% effective!!

NOOOOOOOOOO!

Who votes we buy escapistmagazine.xxx? All in favor?

Ah good, so now there can be even more porn.

I remember reading that only 37 percent of the internet is porn, which means that 63 percent of the internet needs more porn.

Sebenko:
Wow, that video was one of the first things I saw on the internet back in the day. It's been a while.

You've only been on the internet for 4 years?

Anyway, as somebody who legitimately doesn't browse porn sites, I can safely say that this doesn't affect me.

Also, nobody will believe the above sentence.

so it's an online ghetto for all the porn. segregation is not something i condone but in this instance...

John Funk:

So does this mean if I wanted to make a Vin Diesel porn site, I could register the domain xxx.xxx?

That is just a very peculiar name for a movie. I mean, half of the people who rent it are gonna be disappointed, the other half are gonna be REALLY disappointed...

Win.

Douk:

NOOOOOOOOOO!

Actually you probably will still be able to, since, again, this is completely voluntary and there's no reason for anyone to do it.
