Two Worlds II Trailers Mercilessly Mock Two Worlds

If you're making a sequel to a game that everybody - including you - knows was completely awful, you could do a whole lot worse than making fun of the first game in the trailers.

2007's Two Worlds was bad. Like, it was pretty darn bad. You know it, I know it, people who haven't played it know it, and developer Reality Pump and publisher SouthPeak Games certainly know it. Now, if you're making a sequel to a game that is well-known to be garbage, you have two options: Improve on it dramatically, or just make fun of it.

We can hope that Reality Pump and SouthPeak are doing the former (and early reports indicate that the game certainly isn't as bad as the original), but the latest batch of trailers is definitely doing the latter.

In the live-action trailers, evil Two Worlds minion Sordahon has quit his position as the right hand of evil overlord Gandohar and moved to Midlothian, Vancouver Virginia. Sorhadon must find a new line of employment and deal with the fact that he had sort-of-starred in a game that by all accounts was significantly less than stellar.

Honestly? The two videos, which have been released by our colleagues over at Destructoid, are pretty darn funny. The first one in particular has some scathing jabs at the game and its (entirely deserved) critical reception.

It's clear that the developer and publisher are aware of what was bad about Two Worlds. Let's hope that they can fix it for the sequel instead of just making fun of it.

Of course, the question here is why they're making a sequel at all, given that everyone on Earth apparently thought Two Worlds was horrible.

That's awesome - they also sent out a retail info packet to the same effect apologizing for the first one and promising that the second one wouldn't suck so bad. All in a rather humorous tone.

Seems like the best way to go in terms of marketing. Rather than keep up an impossible façade of "the great series continue", admit your (many, many, many) faults and cut the dead weight which would otherwise have bogged this sequel down (and may very well still do so).

Being one of those who shelled out for the Royal Edition of the original game, I can't really muster much sympathy for their efforts though. Enough time to heal the grievous wounds just hasn't passed yet.

I thought the first game featured hilariously bad writing and combined it with some genuinely entertaining combat at higher levels.

Not sure what to think about this... it did seem pretty amusing, however.

I didn't play the first, but this was a pretty funny video lol.
IMO a great way to win over consumers is with humor!

apparently, 2 is coming out to be really really good, I am on getting 2.

Ha I'm actually looking forward to this...

They know what they did wrong, they can hopefully fix it.

Vancouver? You sure that's not VA. Like, Virginia? :p

I thought Two Worlds was good, as in genuine fun. Guess I'm a lucky farmer to never have had any problems with the game, although it struck me from day 1 that you could aquire a skill designed specificaly against mounted enemies, and I have yet to find one xD

Anywho, I preordered TW2 long ago, if I have as much fun with it as I had with the first one, I don't care how bad it is :D

Not only was it horrible but it was pretty fun killing people and enemies in it. Thought the Voice acting was terrible the Combat wasn't to bad. I can't say anything for story though because i didn't beat it.

Wow, even Myamoto has come out directly and said "The Mario Film sucked," this takes some big marketting balls to admit your game was terrible. If the will do this to any possible sequel to X-blades, I don't know.

wow, I was reading some of those reviews of the first game...and holy christ you can ever tell who's for sale there.

It would be great if it came up at the end "Two Worlds II- It'll be better this time... we promise."

...is criticising your own previous work the 'cool' thing to do nowadays or something?

Oh wells, at least people aren't afraid to poke at themselves now...

Funny. Hopefully this means that the second game will be adequate or even good.

Aren't sequels usually happening when the first game was recieved quite formidably and had some sales to back it up?

Well, power to them anyways. The game was horrible so far I heard.

Huh. Dtoid called it Vancouver, but it is apparently a place in Virginia. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR STRANGE CANADIAN CITIES

fixing it.

your a lucky lucky person. Worst game i ever rented besides that Jumper movie tie in game.....thing.

OT: I enjoyed that video and hopefully Two Worlds II will be infinitely times better than the first.

ah two worlds the crap game memory's are flowing back

bad game never ever make another one i'm not going to buy the second one to much of a risk i could die of boredom

video was quite funny at least...

two worlds two hehehe

When a game developer can admit its faults, and make fun of them, then they have my confidence. I'll keep an eye out on this and look for gameplay.

Well, at least they accept it was terrible! lol...lets hope they learn from it...

Why don't they just start a new IP instead?

Well the second one is also coming out to be pretty good apparenty.

They win this round. I'll at least try the sequel now.

That was damn funny, though what I don't understand is why don't they just repackage TW2 as simply, Two Worlds. The first one was considered horrible, so have the second one act as a reboot and start the series off properly. Of course, this all depends on the second one not being complete ass.

well i read/saw the second two worlds, and its coming along pretty good. I may get it. But at least theyhave a sense of humor

yeah the first one did suck but the story was pretty good and it had a charm of it, though getting mauled by fucking wolves for hours was humiliating.

and from the trailers the game looks a million times better and anyone whos a fan of angryjoe and has seen his preview on the game the combat is much better the graphics are good and the framerate is very smooth.

i'll be getting it probably cos im a sucker for fantasy games and because no matter how bad it was i actually did like two world, riding a horse was a bitch though hope they fixed that more than anything.

I actually like the game, as a matter of fact I played through it twice.

Meh. I thought the game was tolerable after you get used to the general kludgyiness of it. If nothing else, I liked setting big fields of monsters on fire with the line of flame spell. Burn, little skeletons, burn! I could almost smell the calcium in the air.

Am I the only one who actually, really, honestly, thoroughly enjoyed that game? I really don't understand why it got bashed so much. I spent well over 100 hours playing it, and I loved it. Sure, some of the voice acting and dialogue was pretty poor; but to me it was comically bad, not unbearably bad. And the actual gameplay was quite fun, if you gave it a chance. It's one of the few modern RPGs I've ever actually finished.
I've been waiting for Two Worlds II for a long time; since it was still just an expansion pack to the original. It's one of the games I'm looking forward to most.

And no, this is not sarcasm.

Im probably not going to get this games but i can't wait to see the critics and reviewers responses to this game.

I liked the concept of the first one... being a company trying to produce the same kind of game that the Elder Scrolls is. They horribly failed, mind you, but at least they have a sense of humor, and have learned from their mistakes. That's probably the most important thing.

Could quite possibly be a good game if they really have learned from them.

I was expecting some light-hearted, semi-sincere parody with no backbone. That was brutal. Despite my decision to forgo the experience promised by the first game, I still found the ribbing quite funny.
