Nolan Planning Inception Videogame

nolan so far has managed not to sell out his artistic side and if he wants to do a game i think great, he seems to want to be involved with it, having someone of his vision and caliber involved in producing or writing a game set in a universe he created, and if he can pull it off, maybe it will lay a good stfu on the people that say games are not art and then cannot be art.

but 2 years from now i mean the guys got batman 3 on his plate the next superman and isnt there some other project he is involved in besides those two? i would say maybe 3 or 4 years depending on how hands on he is with the project.

I agree fully. Nolan is the man. I love how naturalistic his films are aswell... bugger all CG and building a real rotating hallway for the fight scene and REALLY blowing up a freakin building

Urgh god... They should make a game based on the idea in Inception, so like totally unrelated to the film plot, just focusing on extractor agent people... Or based on the main character's earlier days

Which is what they are doing...

Uh....That's exactly what they said they were going to do. Well, they said it would said in the same world as the film, but it wouldn't follow the events of the film.

I think this could be a masterpiece if they did it right.

Well Nolan is an absolute mastermind. And yet I have no idea how well that would help making a video game.

But I'm dreaming about the most awesome combination of Christopher Nolan + Blizzard. Just imagine the possibilities @[email protected] (whether it's an Inception game, a Starcraft movie or something else, it would be fucking awesome).

I loved Inception and saw it 5 times in the cinema. Nolan is a genius.

This game could be amazing if they pull it off.

Or it could suck ass. Tough call really...

I'm sure I can't have been the only one who wanted to pick up a controller during that snow castle bit. It was pretty fine. A lot of elements in that film could transfer to a video game brilliantly.

Nice idea, but I would prefer if they just made Psychonauts 2.

Well it sounds even more awesome than the idea of a Matrix videogame but... It all depends on the execution.

Sandbox would be awesome but tricky, but maybe not as tricky as doing linear well.

That would be awesome . . . hopefully I'll be able to follow what's going on.

I second this opinion. Having a game based off a generally creative idea would be loads of fun, especially if they used absolutely none of the characters from the movie. Then they could start fresh and use the idea of inception as the foundation and build up from there, instead of escorting the player through a series of references and comfort, which, considering the style of the movie, should be anything but.

I like the idea of having it take place in the same world, but without the same characters. The idea is great. Just turning the film itself into a game would be a bad idea.

Fuck yes, I was thinking about this as soon as the film came out. And Nolan has the best idea to keep within the universe and not just make a sequel. A sequel would completely destroy the point of the last scene in the movie. You know, the one that leaves your mind fucked? A sequel would un-fuck it, and this is not appropriate

Hey, as long as it's not related to the film's plot, I'm all for it, worked great with Blade Runner.

I'll bet that you play with a controller in a controller in a controller.

Well I for one say: Bring on the mind-bending Psychonautical stuff!!

Christopher Nolan:
What we are looking at doing is developing a videogame based on the world of the film, which has all kinds of ideas that you can't fit into a feature film.

So many people have commented without even reading the article...

Ot: I wouldn't be as interested were it not for Nolan's personal involvement. It sounds like he's doing it because there's good reason to. I'm looking forward to this.

Exactly my point. How will they ever combine this together? This movie was quite unique, it required you to be active rather than sit back and watch shit unfold. You had to think along.

Either way, I am glad they aren't attempting another horrible movie tie-in.

Actually, this seems like a really good idea. At the end of the day, Scott Pilgrim has proved that decent video-games can possibly be made from films, because it didn't tie itself down with following the film story. Scott Pilgrim followed the books instead, and yet even then focused on gameplay and made it an homage to the old-school brawlers that the books themselves take inspiration from. SO when the developers open their minds and don't let themselves be shackled by the constraints so many adaptations suffer from, genius has a chance to rear it's head, just like in any other form of media.

Quite frankly, I can already see the amazing possibilities for puzzles, storylines, and simply just trying to give the players a massive mindfuck. If the team do work on this, and actually focus on making something over several years (with a good development team, time, budget, etc.) and treat it as something new, and don't let themselves be drawn into the trap of being tied down by the film (which refused to be tied down itself by traditional cinematographic techniques), then this could be something really unique and awesome. Something I'd possibly consider buying at midnight on release day :D.

Well,, inception the movie was confusing as fuck to follow, the game will probably be more so and have crazier stunts (in the movie he actually did most of it) and hard controls (imagine contolling a guy in freefall... NO IT IS NOT ZERO GRAVITY).

Setting it in the universe could be great. Its perfect for setting up action and stealth sequences and maybe possibly dialogue sequences to convince people similar to Mass Effect 2s dialogue sequences.

Could be interesting.

It could be awesome, so long as it's not based on the events of the film. Say, Cobb in earlier days nicking shit from people's brains. That would be awesome.

This could actually be really good. The protagonist can be the "architect" of the dream world and manipulate his/her surroundings to their advantage, whether for combat or exploration/travelling purposes.
