Seriously, that's one of the strangest promotions I have ever heard of. This even beats the running into a pub with a fake gun as a terrorist promotion thing.

I... wh... huh? I suppose if I were that age I would probably be interested, then again I've never played Dragon Quest.

Call me when you're having a party with girls about 8 years older than that...

P.S. I hated Dragon Quest VIII with a passion, most annoying RPG I've ever played and that's saying a lot.

Creepier?

The idea of Nintendo inviting a group of 12 year old girls to a slumber party

Or

The idea of being in a slumber party with a host of other uber-nerds?

I mean, I was watching a Kodak advert from the 80s a few nights ago; and on Primetime TV there's a running film of a pre-teen girl running across the screen naked.

I dunno...have we got oversensitive to what we see?

Never heard of dragon quest and plan to never look into now, considering I'm not 12 or a girl.

first of all, this isn't creepy, it's marketing. stop thinking that anything having to do with young girls has to do with sex. second, this could potentially be a brilliant marketing strategy for nintendo. if it doesn't work then its a relatively small financial loss for nintendo. its an attempt to get people not usually considered gamers to try it with very little downside. more power to them.

Doesn't the DSi have some sort of... camera? Nitendo's true intentions are coming into fruition

What this does is play into the "Nintendo is for kids" mentality. Now that's a problem here because up until now, Dragon Quest has not been considered a kids game. I guess even the non kids games are now for kids if they are on a Nintendo console or handheld.

...and when u though nintendo could not get creepier

This is... what? No, I was never even here. My account got hacked or whatever. I was never here . I don't wanna get blacklisted for reading this.

So, DQ IX is meant for 12 year old girls? Maybe that's why it didn't have the same feel as DQ VIII did for me.

DQ X is coming out on the Wii, I wonder if it too will be meant for 12 year old girls? Scary!

lol yeah... (except replace 7 with five and six. They were so epic... snes modding FTW).

Bring back the awesom enix!

Tom Goldman:
though I can totally understand Nintendo not wanting to host a slumber party full of grown hardcore RPG fans.

Yeah, I suppose the murder of every person at the party in a LARPing gone wrong would create some pretty bad press for Nintendo...

not every kid should, or even wants to, play a game where you can eviscerate an alien with a chainsaw-rifle. don't let the fact that young children enjoy this game sway your opinion of it. this is just video games "growing up" and becoming a part of general entertainment rather then a niche in the market. embrace it because its only going to get bigger.

I have owned the game since launch so I know something isn't right with it. Now I know what it is, I (a 37 year old male) am not the target audience. I was for the previous DQ game but not this one.

technoted:
This is what saddened me about the game, it didn't feel like a Dragon Quest game, maybe it's not targeted at the fans anymore...

Not really have you ever played the orignal ones like say three which has a very similar idea IE: customizable heroes and allys.

that twelve year old slumber party idea is really weird though but if they think that will work..... Also where can I get that king slime beanbag I want it NOW.

What's wrong with some of you guys talking about how these games are kiddy and so forth didn't we all play these games when we were twelve?

i am a 26 year old male and i loved the game. it's simply not to your taste and thats fine. but i doubt that nintendo sat down and had a meeting one day and said "i think we should make the next dragon quest game, one of the most popular franchises in our home country mind you, specifically for 12 year old girls. this is the smartest decision we can make with this franchise at this moment." it sucks that a franchise that you once loved has gone in a direction that you don't particularly like but that is simply a part of life.

Apparently Nintendo DID decide to throw a slumber party promotion for 12 year old girls.

yes they did. however my statement was more sarcastic then i could convey through words alone. sorry, without body language and tone i think my meaning was lost. one, relatively small, marketing event does not mean that nintendo designed the game solely for that demographic. it means that they wanted to increase their sales numbers and saw a potentially untapped fanbase. and getting young kids into video games is not really a bad thing. the kids playing dragon quest and mario galaxy now could be the people playing the next killzone or halo in the future. think of nintendo as a type of training camp for future hardcore gamers.

That is creepy. Please don't be creepy Nintendo.

That is how I think of them now, they are preschool and PC, 360 and PS3 is gaming for adults.

I feel like a fool for not seeing (since the N64) that they don't care about the gamers who grew up with the NES and SNES. It's undeniable these days and this slumber party is just more shit in the punch bowl.

Hi, I'm Chris Hanson...

This whole idea just seems odd to me does marketing not know how to sell games to pre-teens? I mean this sounds like it was a last minute "oh crap we need to market this in a new way" idea. Well will be interesting to watch, if it works I will happy, after all we shall assimilate moer gamers that way.

I...I'm...speechless. I really do not know what to thing or say about this...

Micheal Jackson Does it and everyone makes a huff nintendo does it and no one cares? Well neither do i because that is awesome swag. I want all the slime stuff. Still weird but no matter how you spin it there where probably no adults in the room after 8 o'clock.

Well you know what the creepiest thing about this is... Nintendo doing a slumber party promotional event for 12 year old girls and the internet thinking that it is in fact, creepy. Like between the Pedo Bear, Chris Hanson, and crazy Japanese meme's we're all too familiar with does the basic involvement of young girls at a slumber party make one think that it's sexually devious in nature? I mean what the hell does that say about us?

Well not us as in myself, I just thought it was funny promo combining pre-teen girls and Dragon Quest, but us as in the general gaming community.

I smell Pedobear...

After seeing the commercials, I can't help but think Seth Green was there, too. In fact, I think that was one of the commercials...

Tim Latshaw:
Well, at least they didn't invite a bunch of 20-something guys to sleep over and play Babysitting Mama all night...

hey........

that has "awesome drinking game" written all over it...........

OT:.......... okay, let me just ask, why?

I can understand having a promotional party, but why 12 year old's who probably dont know what dragon quest is, let alone be interested in Dragon Quest IX?

Nintendo, you creepy bastard, I cant understand you anymore.........

Alright, I'm hijacking this thread:

1) It's Dragon WARRIOR over here. They changed the name for the original NES title, might as well keep it consistent.

2) Everything after 3 hasn't been as good (albeit I've only played half of one game afterwards, but I'm a fanboy so I can say whatever I want).

3) Needs more Dragon Warrior Monsters. Those games were 10x better at being Pokemon games than Pokemon was, yet they never sold. I didn't find a single person I could link cable to back when I had my GBC. Now I play them on my GBA so I can't link either :(

O.k. then...?

Three was one of the best, right behind 8 on the PS2. And they did Monsters Joker on DS, but it kinda sucked. One of the only games I sold back to Gamestop, since normally I hoard them in case I want to play again later. It was really repetitive, even by DQ standards, and had little replay value.

Um... isn't that a bit inappropriate Nintendo? You... alone... with all those young girls... and you LURED THEM THERE WITH VIDEOGAMES!

Imagine what the Peter Molyneux version of this kind of promotion would be like.
