Lindsay Lohan Will No Longer Play Porn Star in Biopic

Watchmen's Malin Akerman will be replacing Lindsay Lohan in Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story.

Lindsay Lohan's having a rough time of it. First she goes to jail, then she heads to rehab, now she's unable to be insured and can't play porn star Linda Lovelace. Lohan was to play the Deep Throat actress in Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story. HitFix is reporting that director Matthew Wilder (Your Face Here) "attached" Lohan to the project, then "presold the picture at the 2010 Cannes Film Market to raise funding." Lohan's recent shenanigans have made the film impossible to insure with her in the picture, so Malin Akerman has been called to the role.

The film is based on Lovelace's book Ordeal: An Autobiography, in which she claims her participation in the film Deep Throat was forced. Lovelace was a staunch anti-pornography activist until her death in 2002. It sounds an interesting role, but I can't help but wonder if not starring in a biopic of a porn star will be better for Lohan's career than starring in it might have been.

As for the current casting, Akerman's credits include 27 Dresses, Couple's Retreat, and The Heartbreak Kid, but most of us nerds remember her as Laurie Jupiter, the infamous Silk Spectre II in 2009's Watchmen. In that film, she was featured in the most laughable love scene I've ever had to sit through. I won't be seeing it, but Inferno should be interesting.

It seems like it will be one of those movies you watch for nudity and nothing else. I most likely won't be watching it.

aww common she was made for that role hell she should take up porno flicks for her full time job she cant act anyway.

I remember seeing an interview with the director saying he would not kick Lindsay from the movie. Hmm, guess she had it coming though.

Elizabeth Grunewald:
then she heads to rehab,

But she said no, no, no.

OT; ...I couldn't care less.

Do you mean rather graphic scene aboard Archie the floating Owl thing. I thought that was meant to be other the top as was making a point about the unrealistic nature of sex displayed in movies. And with the climax of a flamethrower wasn't it just making fun of cliché male fantasies a bit?

Just wiki'd this Miss Lovelace person, she, assuming wiki is true, seemed to have a pretty awful life. Between the torture and gang rape. So if this is done tastefully I think it could be a worthwhile film to make.

November 22, 2010

The day I decided to stay away from all non game related news on the escapist.

When I first saw her in that outfit in Watchman I said "Dayyyymmmm" for about ten minutes straight so I think shed fit a movie about a porn actress.

Im not going to watch it though, sounds incredibly boring.

Well, she already played a stripper in that one crapfest movie and she just did a topless scene in Machete, so I can't imagine playing a porn star is too much a stretch. She clearly has the drug abuse and cognitive abilities down to a tee.

Was Lovelace always anti-porn? I thought she tended to flip flop on the subject.

YES! A much better choice. I may actually have to go see this biopic now.

I remember that totally pointless sex scene that didnt add anything to the movie. I had been watchin' it with my dad I think which made it even more awkward. :(

Well I think the film will be better for it. Lindsay Lohan was a bad actress, and just got worse. Also how can she not be insured? Is it like a busted up wreck of a car where the insurance is worth more than the car? How do you insure an actress?

True, but it was still quite a hilariously odd scene.

Meh.. doesnt matter. The only reason why she was attached to this was it was her excuse to the judge for not putting her on probationary travel restrictions. Now that shes dealt with that, she has no reason to bother with something that will take time away from her coke habit.

From Wikipedia:

"In her first two biographies, Linda Boreman characterizes making the film as a liberating experience; in her third and fourth biographies (written after making the acquaintance of anti-pornography activist Andrea Dworkin), she charges that she did not consent to many of the depicted sexual acts and that she was coerced to perform by her abusive husband, Chuck Traynor, who received $1,250 for her acting."

Not a movie I was partiularly desperate to see whoever was in it. But it looks like they will only by taking from the Anti-porn biographys. But I agree poor woman seemed to get a pretty sh!ty deal out of life....

I visit this site so that I DON'T have to see headlines for these types of stories.

Guess she'll have to go straight to actual porn now, and skip the gateway movie.

WHAT? Malin Akerman is a terrible dramatic actress (then again, Watchmen was plagued by bad actors, excepting Jackie Earle Haley).

Simmer down people. The main character in the biopic is being portrayed by the lead actress of one of the better comic book - movie adaptations to date. Last time I checked, comic books and movies are covered under the umbrella of 'escapism'. If the movie was not about a woman who did porn, the news would still be relevant to the site.

Leave your hangups at the door please.

Wow, I'm completely indifferent. IGNORE ME!

OT: Seriously though, I couldn't care less. I guess Lindsay will just go back to her old lifestyle of... Oh wait, she never left that lifestyle.

But now we won't get to see Lindsay Lohan naked!

Oh, wait...

Honestly, the fact that she's even being considered for roles in the first place at this point astounds me. The girl needs to get her act together.

Malin Akerman eh?

I'm in

I can't help but wonder who green lit this entire thing.

To be entirely honest, it seems to me that it's a "hip" thing for porn starlets who achieve a following, but get too old to keep doing movies, to come out and claim they were forced or otherwise tricked into that kind of career/lifestyle. Then they sell the hard luck story/expose. The whole anti-porn advocacy thing isn't new, when I was in school we had people going around speaking about it, right alongside the anti-drug junk.

Now, I'm not going to say that there aren't people forced into the sex trade. Human trafficing, white slavery, and similar things all exist. I on the other hand taken "Linda Lovelace: Anti-Porn Advocate" about as seriously as I did when Traci Lords tried something very similar and got pretty much laughed off when she tried unsuccessfully to get Ginger Lynn Allen to testify with her (or so I heard).

Simply put there are plenty of sexy young girls out there who don't mind doing this kind of thing for easy money. For the most part the big porn houses in the US don't need to go around and kidnap girls and force them into sexual servitude.

I've read a bit about it, and it just seems ridiculous, I'm pretty sure I've heard the same basic kind of story being sold here before.

Now there ARE criticisms I can make of the porn industry (which I won't go into), but this isn't one of them, and as I said, I'm surprised this got approved.

What's more, why would either of these girls, Lindsey or Malin, be interested in doing this movie? Okay Lindsey Lohan is a wild girl, I get that, but she does seem to have talent and this doesn't seem like a good vehicle for her. Malin Akerman isn't as well known but strikes me as being able to find work other than what seems to be a "Made for TV Movie" being given the theatrical treatment.

Such are my thoughts.

Lindsay, drugs fucked you up one too many times. Suffer the consequences. Zero interest for the movie anyways, with or without her.

I would rather see Ms. Ackerman's tits again anyway.

Well THANK GOD. I would certainly avoid from seeing a coked-up crude porn flick. Being that The Silk Spectre is coming back, looks like I'm seeing yet ANOTHER film.

Why the fuck should any of us care?

The Man With the Soap:
Why the fuck should any of us care?

You clicked on a link to a story with "Lindsey Lohan" and "porn star" in the headline. It's pretty obvious why you care. And if Ackerman's new movie is as hysterically awkward as her love scene in Watchmen, then I wouldn't mind seeing it my own self.

Now that Linday Lohan's not in it, I KNOW it won't suck. Get it? Suck?

(Seriously, Malin Akerman is transcendently sexy and beautiful.)

Read title: "Aww"
Read replacement: "Yay!"

I loved her in Watchmen, like many of you, but I also enjoyed her role in Couple's Retreat, like much fewer of you.

<rant>
This is how I see this story:

HAY GUISE! Trashy has-been hollywood starlet fucks up her life so much she can't even play the role of a psychotic porn star! LOL. Also her replacement is Ackerman who did the porn scene in Watchmen, so this is therefore relevant to your interests. Boobies. The end.
</rant>

Seriously, why the bleepity BLEEP is this on the Escapist news feed? I've heard a few half-hearted arguments that Lohan was related to Inferno was related to Akerman who was in Watchmen (presumably with Kevin Bacon), - and nerds like Watchmen?

I'd just like to quote from the Escapist's "About" page:

"Founded in 2005, The Escapist is a leading video gaming destination offering video game enthusiasts high-quality, innovative and exclusive content with a considered approach to its audience."

While I understand that branching out a bit to "adjacent" or related topics is good to give the site a wider perspective, "stories" like this one make my blood boil. The premise of "I Hit It With My Axe" made me groan, but at least it showcases D&D and branches out into the world of tabletop gaming. Stories like this one add nothing and serve merely to titillate and alienate at least part of your readership.

If I wanted to read trash like this I'd read the "Entertainment" section on some other website. This is NOT why I come here. I come here to get away from stories like this, and read ones that are actually related to gaming. This has, quite simply, no valid connection to gaming of any sort.

In conclusion, I don't hate you. I hate stories like this, and what they do to the environment that is the Escapist. Please reconsider editorial decisions like this in the future.

Poor Lindsey. This is what drugs do to you kids. You might be set up to star in a porn star biopic one day, but the next, you're just greasing as many palms as possible to stay out of rehab.

Lohan really needs a new job. She's just not cut out for acting anymore. Maybe she should try at the nearest Burger King.

Watchmen's Malin Ackerman will be replacing...

You mean "Åkerman". She's swedish, you know!

I think

Escapist news stopped being solely about games a while ago. But it still is mostly about videogames. I count 3 or 4 stories to do with non gaming related stuff on the first forum page ( when I last looked). There are lots of stories about superhero and scifi movies which I don't much care for, but know others do.

Would you like those stories removed as well or is it just because this story has the word porn or Lindsey Lohan in it. If so get off your high horse.

As far as I am concerned if the news story is of interest to an average games player who tend to like movies, anything Scifi and anime (yes I know it does not apply to all), then it is fair game. That being said if we start getting stories about the Lohan's every move like an entertainment rag then I will not be impressed. A one off story is fine.

Edit: Also the editorial seem OK since the story has turned on a few of my other favorite tech websites as well....

No amount of Malin Akerman nudity is worth enduring her godawful acting. I mean really, she basically ruined Watchmen for me. I could have endured the liberties it took with the source material, but I could not endure a second viewing of that teeth-grindingly bad performance by Akerman.
