[UPDATE] Leaked L.A. Noire Trailer Reveals Serial Killers, Release Date

Rockstar Games' latest trailer for L.A. Noire has been leaked early, revealing the game's release date and a couple of spooky serial killers.

Though Rockstar Games has been criticized for taking so long to develop crime thriller L.A. Noire, the game is looking like it'll be worth the wait. Rockstar intended to release L.A. Noire's latest trailer on January 24, but it somehow hit the streets a little early.

The trailer takes a darker turn than previous efforts, featuring the voices of what sound like two different serial killers players will encounter in the game. The first says he doesn't know the names of the women he's killed, but he's killed quite a few. The second says the world is "only temporary," so he's killing people to help them be together. Two creeps.

We also get a few more details of how at least a part of L.A. Noire's story will play out. The LAPD discovers the bodies of multiple women that they believe could be the work of a serial killer, or a copycat. The killer is sending cryptic messages to the police that feature the old-school style of cutting out different types of letters from magazines.

The main character evidently gets mixed up with a female singer that his partner says is "trouble." Very noir-ish. L.A. Noire's vaunted interrogation system is included just briefly, but the trailer still shows some of the nuances of those being questioned with their slight eye and mouth movements. This is all in-game footage.

For now, Rockstar has allowed the trailer to remain on YouTube, but there's no telling if it might come down soon (Update: It's gone). The big reveal at the end is that L.A. Noire will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 17, 2011 (Update: In North America). Finally.

Update: Rockstar has released the official version of this L.A. Noire trailer, which confirms the North American release date of May 17 and reveals a May 20 release for Europe. It's available to view and won't come down this time.

is it just me or does LA Noire seem to have been in development for a long time?

Oh, this looks awesome.

Man, you gotta love Rockstar at times.

Of course, it still could fail spectacularly and I think it will in sales, but Rockstar can tell a good story and this looks like a damn good setting for them.

Count me in.

Lord, I fucking love serial killers.

Is there a game that lets me play as one? Is that how Manhunt works?

I fucking love Rockstar. This looks absolutely great, it's interesting and different. I was suprised that it's release date is May 17. I thought it would be later than that!

This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Take 2 Games.

God damn it.

They expected Red Dead Redemption to not do so well, now look at it :P
I think it'll be fine. I hope. I really hope...

Well balls. Wait, I though Rockstar was publishing this? Whats Take 2 doing?

Oh. My God.

I had my eyes on it since 2006 and the first trailer, and looks like it was worth it. If I had to pick only one game to buy in 2011, then sorry ME3, MvC3, The Witcher II and TES: V, but L.A. Noire would be that game. I love America's 20's-50's. I love detective stories. And now it looks more and more like my favorite game ever (Heavy Rain), so adding the solidness of the teams under Rockstar, gives me a killer shake made from my favorite ingredients...

Awesome, definitely Day 1 purchase.

Video is dead.

Yeah, I thought of that example, too.

But RDR is still has a lot in common with that other Rockstar franchise and is set in a very popular yet not too explored setting in gaming.

L.A. Noire is more Heavy Rain territory, only a lot more disturbing. Heavy Rain sold fairly well, yes, but I don't see that many people this game could appeal to.

Well, me... It appeals to me. So bying this.

The trailer is awesome. The one that's linked here is gone though, you need to go to Youtube, search for it and sort the results by date. There's a bunch of them having been added just an hour or so ago and one of them might still be online.

First Duke, then this...

There are way too many oft delayed games coming out in May. I don't know if my wallet will be able to survive the flood of games that's heading our way...

Not that I'm complaining, of course.

Anyone have a backup on the video??

This wavelength. We share it.

They took that down in a hurry.

Regardless of it's development time, I'm sure it'll sell fairly well. So long as the average person also sees Rockstar logo on the package, they know they're in for the same high-caliber gaming experience the studio is known for.

Without a doubt the game will probably outshine Mafia II and Duke Nukem Forever critically and financially, in terms of long development cycles.

I honestly can't wait!

If is trailer, why take down?
EDit: Finally! I very much want this game now.

You are a serial killer in every shooter ever made, they just don't point that out...

Interesting tech they used, but hmm... it's more or less film, so it's probably not reusable to construct other conversations (I can always be wrong tho).

At the risk of being a PC whiner... not on PC? I am disappoint.

I need a trailer. Anyone obtained a back-up?

Much like RDR, piracy and such might hold a PC release off indefinitely. Most profits are made on the consoles, so far, at least, I think.

That, good sir, is win.

An internet is your reward.

As far as I know Manhunt has some guy forcing you "act" in snuff films. So, sort of.

A serial killer game would be cool though.

Wasn't GTA4 really late to the PC, and a sloppy port at that?

Rockstar has always been more console focused, I think. At least you guys get Valve...

Dexter: The Game
For the iPhone.

P.S. Thanks

It isn't?

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Duke Nukem and LA Noire in the same month? May is going to be an amazing month.

HigherTomorrow:
Looks like Rockstar decided to upload it themselves.

Looks amazing, have to say.

No that is the original teaser from back in-Oh say, 2006.

No actual trailer. I am sad...

As mentioned in the thread numerous times before, May is looking like a pretty sweet month.

I pretty sure WoW alone beat quite a few game on console.

And I was too naive to think someone would make the distinguish of a MMORPG and a regular PC title.

A MMORPG like WoW certainly will bring in the cash, for the full/complete experience, you have to pay/play on official servers. Sure you can enjoy a Private Server but there is no real value to it.

A regular PC titles you can just torrent. Us console owners run the risk of being banned on Xbox Live, basically screwing the major point of owning the said console.

Though that's the majority, a few don't care though.

No PC release?
I'm going to cry in a corner now, see you later.

Not until this gen has rockstar really started ignoring the PC and also getting a little too serious for their own good.
Before this gen, the best version of any gta was on the PC. Even if you didn't mod it at all San Andreas on the PC was far superior. Hell, those games started on the PC.
They also seem to be getting too serious for no seemingly good reason.
I was kind of compelled by the more serious story of gta4 until I played it and realized that it was all the same missions wrapped in a new layer of pretentiousness. It would've been worth it if the characters were more 3 dimensional and you could care about one or two of them but I don't want to care about my gta protagonist. I want them to be psychos I can terrorize a city with. RDR felt similar too. I felt a little more open to the seriousness because it wasn't GTA but the characters were little more than Saturday Morning caricatures and I didn't really care about the story.
Maybe they got it right with this one but if not, I hope they go back to the more over the top, absurd games they were really good at making.
I might get this but I'll probably just wait for the Zombie Noir expansion.

Yes, ty that's what this story needed. a Link to the trailer. Ty very much.

Am I the only person who found himself in the Uncanny Valley while watching that trailer? Those faces on those bodies just look...strange.

Despite that, it looks really interesting.
