Mini Vader Dominates New Volkswagen Commercial

Dare you not to grin when you watch this.

This is a great time of year for the advertising industry, thanks to the Super Bowl. The new ads that are unveiled for the biggest football game of the year are often celebrated for their brilliance (and, occasionally, mocked for their shortcomings). This year, automobile manufacturer Volkswagen has unveiled a new ad for the 2012 Passat that features an adorable miniature Darth Vader.

OK, Vader is actually a kid in a costume who stalks around his/her house, trying to use the Force on different objects. It's pretty funny to watch, thanks to the official "Imperial March" music and the kid's body language. At the end of commercial, however, Little Darth gets a surprise when the Force is used on the Passat in the driveway.

Honestly, this is one of the more adorable/nerdy ads I've seen in a while. Kudos to Volkswagen's marketing team; hopefully this is the start of a whole new campaign with similarly brilliant ads.

You know what, I wouldn't mind that replacing the prequal trilogy...

That was a bit anti climatic.. Still cute though I guess.

Don't count on it. Marketing departments always bring their A-game for this time of the year, and then usually have the same commercial air for the next fourteen months. Considering the money they spend just to get the commercial into the Super Bowl, it becomes kind of a necessity unfortunately.

I'm happy lucas released its force grip on its license long enough to let this kid try and force grip some stuff.

Also I find it strange but awesome how Darth vader is the true start of the OT

That was awesome; if only all ads had this sense of fun.

The dog's expression was priceless.

Oh gods... the cuteness and win is reaching critical levels, that was freaking adorable, just a few snuggles short of so cute it hurts.

I didn't grin. Fun commercial though.

Awesome ad, hope all of the SB ads are this fantastic.

As a kid who used to do that. I am crying with laughter. Excellent commercial!

That was... cute. *MANLYCOUGH* Ehem.

This is fairly brilliant. Gotta love that giving up when he realises he can't eat the sandwich. But HE WILL HAVE THE PENNE ALLA ARRABIATA. And he will need a tray.

That kid is 1000x more Darth Vader than Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen combined!

...Do luke skywalker. >.>

You know, first VW goes to race in the Nürburgring 24h with this...

... then they go rallying with this...

... and then they build a car that achieves a mileage of 310mpg...

Oh, now they also own Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, Skoda and SEAT.

And finally they make an interesting ad.

Well, that's quite a mouthful for a company known for making pedestrian automobiles sold to retirees...

That's adorable. A great start for 2011 advertisements already!

The Imperial March is an appropriate tune for Volkswagen, considering it was founded by the Nazis.

Also, I want a Darth Vader costume. I would totally run around trying to electrocute everything with my mind.

They must have paid an arm and a leg for the rights to Vader and the song..perhaps another arm and leg too? Oh man that's first class comedy there!

i made me smile but i was hoping the car was going to move or something.

That just made my entire day, I feel so validated for past actions now.

More kid-friendly, more adult-friendly...I can see no drawbacks.

"GODDAM IT GEORGE, EVEN VOLKSWAGEN KNOW HOW TO MAKE GOOD USE OF THE MYTHOS, WHY DON'T YOU?"

So that's what the Emporor's apprentice would look like if the midichlorians had manifested as an Ewok...

Excellent use of The Dark Side Epic Cuteness.

Ya know what? I hate kids and even i thought that was cute.

im still smiling

Ahaha, that is just pure awesome. You know, I still find myself holding out my hand when I walk into a store with automatic doors.

Actually, Lucas is very generous with the use of Star Wars for parody. That's generally why lots and lots of shows have their Star Wars episode.

As I recall, the Family guy/robot chicken specials didn't have to pay a cent for them.

^ pretty sure thoes are the same thing. Awesome commercial tho...i loled irl :)...I MEAN WHATS CUTE!?!?! *mainly grunt*

At 0:25 - 0:30, just the way the kid does the little force pull, then perfectly puts his hand to his helmet with the arched fingers, was just so freakin cute and awesome.

That kids body language made the commercial. Hope he acts one day.

Haha. That's an awesome commercial. Can't go wrong with Darth Vader.

The Dark side has clouded his vision,
...with mountains of money.

The only way this could be cuter is if they somehow figured a way to make him a kitten...

What prequel trilogy?

This is the best Star Wars prequel I've ever seen since-

...was there such a thing before this? Wait...the flashbacks...no...No....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Meanwhile in George Lucas's mind * Royalties yes! Royalties more more more!!*

They should have played his theme on the kazoo.

The kazoo, damn you.
