Rockstar Splits L.A. Noire Pre-Order Bonuses Six Ways

No matter where you pre-order L.A. Noire from, you might miss out on some content.

Rockstar Games has announced a plethora of pre-order bonuses for the upcoming L.A. Noire, which include new outfits, cases to solve, weapons, and more. There's just one catch: They've been divided up between multiple retail outlets.

Pre-ordering from Best Buy or Amazon awards purchasers with an exclusive suit and pistol, though only the suits are described. Best Buy is offering the "Sharpshooter Suit," which enhances your aim with pistols and rifles. Amazon offers the "Broderick Suit," which strengthens hand-to-hand combat abilities and resistance to damage.

Rockstar gave Walmart a bonus case for pre-orderers to solve called "A Slip of the Tongue." This traffic desk case looks like a standard car theft on the surface, but ends up leading to an investigation on the biggest auto fraud ring Los Angeles has ever known.

Meanwhile, GameStop appears to have gotten the best of the bunch, with an exclusive case and a side-mission. "The Naked City" is a vice desk case that has players look into the apparent suicide of a beautiful fashion model. Hint: It probably wasn't a suicide. GameStop pre-orders also receive a mission called "Badge Pursuit" which deposits 20 badges around the city for players to find. Collecting them awards extra experience points to build your investigative skills, and unlocks a suit that gives extra ammunition.

Pre-ordering from the Rockstar Games Store will provide buyers with a t-shirt. No offense Rockstar, but I don't think anyone is choosing that one. Target buyers also get a t-shirt, and a $5 gift card.

There's nothing wrong with pre-order incentives, but I can't help but think that this is the improper way to offer them. "Badge Pursuit" alone seems like a pretty typical Rockstar mission that should be included in every L.A. Noire player's game. If all of the content can eventually be unlocked by everyone, great. If not, I question how exclusive pre-order bonuses are beneficial, especially when one retailer's is so much better than the others.

well that's fucking stupid thing to do Rockstar.

Target it is.

What? $5 gift card and a t-shirt is better than some little DLC.

I does seem pretty weighted in Gamestop's favour. Then again how long IS a case? If it's only 30 mins long then it's a pretty big meh.

Just don't buy it.

I question how small these additional missions must really be if they're willing to cut them from the game for most people. I wouldn't be surprised if they were created for the sole purpose of cutting them out.

Of course, they carry on with it because people do like to pre-order, so they obviously see it as a viable tactic, even if it's not really working.

It's annoying that they split them up. Like Deus ex and Fallout New Vegas. NV eventually released all of them after Deadmoney which I thought was so freaking dumb. Some people like me aren't really close to some of the stores that have the best items. But eh whatever.

I dont see why they wouldnt release a special edition with everything included [not including the $5 gift card though], Im sure that people would buy it for an additional $10 or so.

Splitting pre-order bonuses in itself is a stupid idea, and had this game have multiplayer, I would be entitled to complain on how it would lop-side the experience.

heres an assumption, the pistol in the pre-order bonus? its going to be overpowered.

Soooo... I pre-ordered it from EB Games a few months ago, what does I get? :P

IDK.
Like Tom said, that badge collection thing seems like something that you would expect in every copy of the game; especially for R*.

It's too bad, I was thinking about getting this. But if they're going to pull that crap, I'm just going to rent it and maybe buy goty eventually if it's really good.
At least it doesn't seem like they're doing their usual console specific exclusive dlc BS like they usually do.

This is why I created this topic

Its a poll about this kind of incentives

Want all the preorder bonuses? BUY THE GAME SIX TIMES

*mumbles*

Fuck. These. Fucking. Preorder bonuses.

"But noone's left out on any content!" *spits*

But I want to collect badges. I need the stinking badges.

Dam it all Rockstar! Making me chose between missions and character clothing.

You don't need no stinking badges!

Nothing, 'course.

as usual DLC barks back, like a dog in heat !

I kind of dislike the idea, but it might help spread the wealth a little bit. It's not just going to be ONE store that gets to rake in most of the dough (even if GameStop still will anyway) from the game. Maybe people would prefer one of the other bonuses, and buy it from them.

I'll probably go with Target, but ONLY if I can later download the bonuses that Gamestop gets.

Anythiing about UK pre orders or is the amazon one the only one we can get? This is a good way of doing this kind of thing, but does mean people will agonize over the decision.
Or maybe that's just me.

Yeah, I made a thread (that died instantly) about this yesterday. They have exclusive extra missions with pre-orders for this and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It's a bullshit practice, plain and simple.

I hate those preorder boni. I'm not going to buy 6 copies of the bloody game, so what's the point of releasing 6 different versions? I'd even justify piracy of the preorder bonus of the different versions in this case, provided you bought at least one copy.

Also, captcha:
its defoade! OMFG ITS DEFOADE!!!!

Rockstar and Bondi are bunch of mean words! :(

Damn right! Then you can brag to your friends about how stupid they are for only getting ONE pre-order bonus! HAH!

Oh wait... You mean I spent $360 and all my friends only paid $60?

Damnit...

So I can buy six copies of the game to get the full game (five discounting the t-shirt one) or I can not buy the game. I think I'll go with "not buy the game". I originally hated when War For Cybertron came out with pre-order bonuses of MP characters, but once they made them DLC (which is fair giving a person a free one for pre ordering and then charging for the rest) and the fact that they were MP skins and not single player portions of the game made it easier to swallow.

This is just greed on R* part, hoping people will love their brand so much to buy five or six copies of their game to get it all.

Wow. Rockstar was doing so well with the Pre-Order 'ing and all that DLC, pulling out one of the most grandest dickmove yet.

Not one, not two, not three but SIX pre-order versions and no way to combine them. This is itching my ex-piracy loins.

I want the T-shirt...if it's cool.

And... What about people like me, who live in Poland and don't have Best Buy, Gamestop, Wal-Mart or Target and we're not using Amazon thanks to our local substitutes? F you, no DLC at all?

I don't like this kind of shit. If there's other ways of unlocking these bonuses, even if you have to buy tham as DLC, then fine, whatever. But I don't like the thought that if I don't pre-order, I lose some gameplay forever. Especially since I don't pre-order often, thanks to my financial situation, and that it seems like gambling on whether I'll like a game.
I think it's fair for them to release pre-order bonuses as DLC, it still encourages pre-orders, without punishing those who buy it later. But if they don't do this, I'll be very disappointed...
Captcha: A sideways carrot... Not joking.

This is stupid as hell, and discrimination against people who live in other countrys ans dont have a gamestop or wallmart anywhere near them. Why rockstar? WHY?!

I have nothing against pre-order incentives, but this is jsut ridicolous!

I mean...why? It doesn´t even make sense. NOONE is going to buy the damn game six times, so why even try? This just boggles the mind.

is la noire coming out on pc? i prefer pc games and this looks interesting.

I'm with you on this one. If they can't include it all into everyone's copy. I'm not buying it. Its that simple. Its a nice idea in theory, not so practical though.

They'll release most of that stuff as dlc in a few months, it's no big deal.

I have no problem with pre-order bonuses or even day-one DLC.

But this makes it impossible for ANYONE to get everything. Which is rubbish.

Man, I am so sick of all these retailer exclusive bonuses. First, it means you can't get everything. Second, it means you have people on forums spamming existing threads and making new ones to beg people for codes for stuff they didn't get. Third, what the hell is the point? One preorder bonus for preordering the game at all is good enough, but these retailers think they need to get exclusive stuff to drive sales, but all they do is end up screwing customers. Publishers need to start saying no to these stores.
