New Game Amy is Totally Not One Long Resident Evil Escort Mission

New Game Amy is Totally Not One Long Resident Evil Escort Mission

Flashback creator Paul Cuisset and French developer Lexis Numérique are hard at work on Amy- a game that features no zombies whatsoever.

Game dev Lexis Numérique recently announced PSN exclusive Amy, a survival-horror game featuring a "rich, addictive and twisted story-based scenario" coming out in Quarter 2 of 2011. The plot will focus around a woman, Lana, living in a semi-apocolyptic 2034 full of natural disasters and freak weather brought on by runaway global warming. She wakes up in her midwest hometown of Silver City, which has been leveled by a comet, finding it plagued by a "mysterious virus" turning people into deranged, flesh eating monsters that are totally not zombies.

Aware that the virus is already at work inside of her, she must find a way to reverse the process, dodging "infected humans, grisly creatures, special forces, and even other survivors." Along the way, Lana picks up the titular Amy, creepy little girl that Lana must protect.

Amy isn't just a permanent case of escort-mission syndrome, however, and can actually be semi-useful, getting to places with her small size that Lana would never be able to access. Obviously important to the game, she is described as "neither a super warrior nor a docile character that follows you."

If this game wasn't already screaming the words "plot-driven" at you, the developers say that Amy's presence "will force [Lana] to make choices that will change both their lives." Do I hear moral choice system?

One interesting aspect of the game is that none of the combat will be necessary to play. Should you choose to play the game in a stealthy manner, you will be able to sneak around many of the combat situations that most games would force you to shoot your way through. That doesn't mean sneaking will neccisarily be the easy way out, however, as there will be various types of enemies who will be able to detect sound, heat, and movement. The intelligent AIs, capable of communicating with each other and working in hordes, will also pose a challenge.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Damn fucking ninjas

Also PSN only? Damn... Ah well there'll be an LP up at some point anyway

It does sound interesting but a lot of things sound interesting.

Sounds really interesting. I'll keep my eye out for it, hopefully it'll be good.

For some reason when I read this I thought of Parasite Eve instead of Resident Evil.

I'm totally not ignoring this game until more information is available.

Can there ever be a game where you play as a good not-zombie who maintained full brain functions, and escorts a kid around like this?

Because I would play the shit out of that. A not-zombie/human tag team. Zombie fights. Kid...does other stuff.

ok, show us MOAR!

Flashback was one of the most awesome games ever for the genesis, I played it to death. Too bad the sequel was arse.

The intelligent AIs, capable of communicating with each other and working in hordes, will also pose a challenge.

Read "As soon as any enemy sees you, you will instantly be swimming in not-zombies, each of whom knows your exact location". Dear God, I hope not.

Reason #18 why I must buy a PS3. Want now... must resist urge to kill for ps3... so i can buy game...

It sounds good but I'm worried about how much they keep NOT comparing it to resident evil, the last resident evil game was not that good so it seems like they are offering a pointless comparison.

This. I hope it's a stealth-based LP.

*meh meh meh OOOOOOHHH*
I like the stealth around all encounters thing! It really does shake up the experience. That's a great move that I don't see to often in games.

Well IF the infected all look like the screen shot, I guess they could Technically be classified as 'ghouls'. Originally zombies were actually bodies re-animated with vodoo, so they can call these whatever they like.

An apocalypse with zombies... I. Am. Flabber. Gasted.

Imagine, some actual creativity in apocalyptic scenarios. Wouldn't that be a sight?

Typically I hate having to deal with little children in survival horror games, they never turn out well for my character, but this has me intrigued. I will have an eye on this and hope this isn't going to be a zombie game knock off with a tacked on moral system.

I'm going to have to keep an eye on this... It.. Has potential..

Despite the RE "not zombie" not ripoff, looks pretty interesting! :D

Sherry Birkin? That is exactly what that description of the Amy character sounds like. The game still sounds interesting, I just don't like the idea of dragging a little girl around, especially if she just randomly sits down in the middle of zombies...

Well this is interesting, glad my flatmate is the only one here with a PS3.

Also, 'necessarily'. I hate myself for that but I had to.

Meh. Can't say I'm interested at all in this game. It's touting stuff like "Amy is actually useful! SHE CAN CRAWL THROUGH STUFF!" as if it's like some great innovation in gaming.

It will most likely suck...in my opinion, but that is just from past experience with games of this nature.

PSN exclusive? Pissbiscuits. Maybe they'll play nice and give it to Steam for us PC gamer "master race"?

Seriously, it's been ages since we had some decent survival horror games. No, it doesn't count as survival horror if they give you a laser shotgun that shoots chainsaws. Yes, Amnesia was fantastic, but I HUNGER FOR MORE.

Oddly enough, it sounds quite interesting. I may get this game when I buy a PS3.

This has potential, but it may fall flat in areas. Plot twist? The creepy child is the mastermind behind everything and the final boss... If you dont listen to her telling you to stab things.

Soooo....It's Ico with zombies?

Also kinda off topic but isn't Flashback that game Yahtzee LPed?

How much, and will there be a demo. :) That is all.

From the creators of Flashback? And only on PSN, well that made my day and then made it go away...

I think that might be the point, they want to show a badly done horror game and show how it's properly done.

Kinda like how the Homefront devs keeping comparing their game to Modern Warfare 2, only it sounds less like the game it's being compared to instead of more (so what fuck is China doing, Milius?!).

So this is what we get when we finally get a game with no zombies in it? A game with zombie-like creatures? I liked zombies before they were popular.

Sounds interesting. If I only had a PS3...

You mean like... Stubbs the zombie, but good escort mission Stubbs? Intriguing...

I had almost no interest in this story until they mentioned the stealth element... Now I wanna see how it goes
