Guy Dumps Girl Over Firefly, Makes Music Video

Today's life rule: if your significant other doesn't like Firefly, then it's time to dump them. Oh, and make a music video out of it.

We've all been in this situation: we meet someone, go on a date, sparks fly, and then try to share our favorite nerdy TV show/movie with them. For me, said movie is The Gamers: Dorkness Rising. For Mikey Mason, it was Firefly, and his girlfriend didn't like it. So he dumped her, wrote a song about it, and filmed a music video.

The song tells about how Squedge's girlfriend was, for lack of a better term, perfect: She looked like a supermodel, had a good job, liked comic books and videogames, "wears steampunk lingerie", but her lack of love for Joss Whedon's Firefly was apparently a deal breaker (particularly how she didn't cry when Wash died). As a result, Mason dumped her and kicked her out of his house.

It's hard to tell if this story is really true or not. though commentary that accompanies the video implies that it (mostly) is. The song is kinda cute, but I'm really hoping that he made the situation up. I mean, dumping someone that awesome simply over a TV show seems like something only a soulless member of the Alliance would do.

This made me laugh a lot harder than it should have.

Steampunk Lingerie.

Wow, there's somebody else in the world that didn't care for Firefly. Obviously, this woman is my soulmate.

She will be mine. Oh yes, she will be mine.

Wow...just wow if i had a girl like that i'd want to keep her. This man is really stupid.

So she's single now? Neat.

Story is funny buuuut I didn't like his voice.

I can't judge neither of them though. I don't know Firefly. :<

BlindTom:
Steampunk Lingerie.

I'm ambivalent. It sounds sexy in theory, but Victorian undergarments were not designed to thrill.
Th inclusion of steam is an even more daunting prospect.

Uhh. The girl I like is way more religious than I am...

SO I MUST MAKE FUN OF HER ON THE INTERNEEETETTT HAHAAHA what an idiot.

I like Firefly as much as the next man, but this is just a dick move

I love Firefly.
But if half the stuff in this song is true, he is an asshole and a fool.

I feel that it is my nerdy duty to point out that Wash didn't technically die in the Firefly series (shut up it's not a spoiler if it's in the OP).

That being said, it's a cool song. I also hope the guy made the situation up though (or at least had other things to dump her over).

Luckily my girlfriend loves Firefly, but refuses to finish the series with me because the undying void that's left after. WHYYY FOX.

Thats so stupid. She likes games for god sake!

Only deal breaker - If she was a Nazi.

I hope this is just a joke and he did not dump her because of Firefly...because if he did then he is a fool

Oh god yes I love that movie.

OT: Meh, this is kinda... stupid.

Oh no, you don't like a series that I do? THIS IS OVER. Also, I'm writing a song about your poor poor taste in fiction.

...that's just petty. Jeez.

And in the likely case that this is a joke, well... Meh. Kinda stupid anyway.

It certainly struck me as a joke song rather than a true story. I laughed anyway.

I thought i was going to find this stupid and trite, buuuut i enjoyed it.

have you SEEN Firefly?

Really though? I think it's blindingly obvious that it's a joke.

It was a great show... but to dump someone for it (...where is the love?) just isn't right. Well, she'll be probably better off without that moron anyways. (If you'll consider to diss Deadwood however...:P) Nah.. He'll probably have enough time in his hands to apply for a job as dictator in some North-African country now where opinions are dust in the wind..:S

True story or not, that song is a major earworm...

Quite possibly you do care for Wayne's World, if I'm reading that right.

OT: Well, I don't know what to make of this myself, but not feeling bad for Wash is COLD. When good person dies in ANY situation, you're suppose to feel bad.

MikeOfThunder:

Because girls who like games? OMG THAT NEVER HAPPENS EVER. :O

Seriously though. Obviously this guy is a hardcore fan of Firefly. To me, if you're a hardcore fan of ANYTHING (talking about Trekkies, Renfest people, the sort of people who put their heart and soul into their hobby) and your significant other's response is 'ugh, I can't stand that thing you love above all other things'? That's going to be an issue, especially if it's a big part of the things that you like to do, spend money, time, and effort on, etc. Dude is a Browncoat. Obviously Firefly means a good deal to him.

There is a difference between your super girlfriend/boyfriend not necessarily liking the same things you do, and dissing something that you really love. If it was the former, yeah, he was out of line and is a moron, so on and so forth. If it was the later, then dude. It's not like he divorced his wife. He dumped a girl he'd dated for a month. There are TONS of sexy, steampunk-inclined geeky gamer girls out there just like that one who DO like Firefly, and dude is clearly better off hooking up with one of them.

I won't lie, I'm judging this guy a little bit.

Wow...I would LOVE to find a girl like that. So she doesn't like, in my case, Star Wars. So what? You share other common interests. I've never heard of a single couple that liked everything that the other person likes. That's simply not possible. This man deserves to be slapped.

I still think that it is weird that he picked Firefly over intimacy and love...or he did not love her and then he did not dump her because of Firefly and did just use it as an excuses...anyway I do not think it matters if I have seen it or not I will still say what I said...he could at least tried to make her like it maybe not love it but still like it instead of freaking out over her first impression.

Didn't cry when Walsh died? This woman clearly has no soul. He made the right call.

If this is true, then the guy is really a fool for dumping her over that.

Nice song irrespective of that though!

Obviously a joke. And a pretty good one. It entertained me and now i´ll be humming this bloody song all day...AAAARGGHH!!

I forced my GF to watch Firefly just last week. Luckily she liked it, otherwise that could have been me. I would love to send her a link to this, but she hasn't seen them all yet and I don't want to spoil Wash's death!

MikeOfThunder:

Hey! Firefly>racism.
This must be a joke btw, she posed for the music video...

O.O If she looks anything like the lady in the video, and if does happen to be true, then that dude deserves a slap on the back of the head.

Good song though.

We have souls. *sniff*

This man reaches new levels of nerd-i-tude.

Seconded

hilarious! easily the best thing i've seen all day :)

sadly, i know a girl like that...

The only part I didn't like about Firefly was how short it was. They could have made a lot more episodes.

But seriously, who can't love a sci-fi western with Chinese elements? It's like having sex and eating cupcakes; there's just too much good stuff to not appreciate it.
