Captain America Shows Off Steely Determination in New Movie Trailer

Steve Rogers might not have the muscle to be a soldier, but he has what it takes to be a super-soldier.

A new trailer for the upcoming Captain America: First Avenger movie is shining a light on why the Army chose the scrawny Steve Rogers to be the first - and indeed, the last - test subject in its super-soldier program, which directly led to him becoming Captain America.

As you can see from the trailer, Rogers is rather persistent in his efforts to join the army and fight against the Nazis, applying five times in five different cities. Unfortunately, his rather feeble frame gets him turned down every time. But this persistence draws the attention of the scientists behind the super-soldier program, who offer him the chance to make a difference. At one point, Rogers asks why he was picked to go first, to which the scientist replies that only those who know what it's like to be weak have the proper appreciation of power and strength.

Following this set up, there's a series of jump cuts, showing Rogers in action, both as himself, and as Captain America. There's even a brief shot of him throwing the iconic shield, which is sure to excite comic book fans. We also get to see the Red Skull - played by Hugo Weaving - pulling his face off, which is always a treat.

Much like the most recent Thor trailer, this trailer is more engaging than previous efforts, probably because the focus is on character rather than action. Leading man Chris Evans seems to have made Rogers a rather sympathetic character, which is going to be very important part of the movie.

Captain America: First Avenger hits theaters on July 22nd.

So, it's got Hugo Weaving and Tommy Lee Jones in it? Oh, and some comic superhero I guess

That's a serious plus.

I can't be the only one who thinks this guy has an eerie similarity to Kenneth Parcell of 30 Rock.

Anyway...That movie looks pretty badass. I'm gonna predict that it'll be about as good as Iron Man: Not amazing or anything, but certainly worth the time it took to watch it. A fun action movie.

Is it July yet!?

What's taking so long?! Wtf time, seriously.

Sold and sold, can't wait to check this movie out this summer

"And they will personally escort Adolf Hitler to the gates of Hell"

[insert cynical and jaded comment regarding likelihood of impending suckage here.]

I'm sure the comic... enthusiasts will love it.

Nice... very nice...

Perfect timing too since I've been recently getting into Captain America comics.(not to mention being my main in MvC3)

Needs a musical Broadway adaptation.

"Do it, Mr. Stark."

I FUCKING KNEW IT.

...Not now you're not, no.

Both IM movies - I enjoyed (esp. the 2nd one). Hulk was not that great, Thor doesn't seem all that promising. I sure hope this one is gonna be good.

(Captain) America

FUCK YEAH!

Well they do keep implying that Kenneth is older than he looks....

You know Marvel...

Honestly never expected a character like Cap to work on the big screen. But imo, this already looks better than Thor or Geen Lantern (which admittedly isn't hard).

He may seem cheesy as first glance but Cap is badass.

if they dont at lest mention the UK or any of the other allies im just going to class this bad. Or are we in a world where WW2 started in 1941?

Looks pretty solid. Would have liked to have seen a few more second of Hugo as Red Skull though.

Oh I openly laughed out loud at this, though I'm slightly dissapointed now as you have potentially ruined the movie for me. The only way that could have been made better is if they replaced Tommy Lee Jones with Alec Baldwin.

As for the movie, I think it's looking like the most promising out of the three superhero movies I've seen trailers of recently (the others being Thor and Green Lantern).

MOVIEBOB WAS RIGHT! Haha, I had the exact same thought when I heard that. BAM! Called it.
Anyway, yeah I am looking forward to this move. Marvel always manage at least a fun movie. And occasionally a truly excellent movie. Hopefully this will be one.

Indeed. Sorry but after playing Marvel vs Capcom 3 I am exteremly excited to see such a movie.

O__O....I got scared at how badass that quote was...

Union Jack and Dum Dum Dugan appear in this movie.

Okay, that picture is badass, but it's missing something...

Oh wait, I know... THIS:

You know, you can probably copy all of the trailers that they release for films nowadays onto iMovie, and cut and paste them until you have the full film

I just blew out my vocal chords from going "EEEEEE!!!". Can't wait for this to come out.

not bad..not bad at all.

personally i'm more excited for thor, but this is right up there

EEEEEEEEEEEEEE :) this could be good

Damn right!

Good one! ;)

OT: I could never imagine a Captain America movie could work, especially since we tend to roll our eyes at stories revolving around American chest-thumping patriotism. But this looks bad-ass!

I hope they transform Chris Evans into Cap in the first five minutes of the film, because the CGI-weakling Steve Rogers is incredibly visually off-putting. I was sick of it in that trailer alone.

This is pretty much the only movie I'm looking forward to in 2011 (seriously, after an amazing 2010 we seem to be in a drought for good movies).

Trailer didn't disappoint, watched it earlier, looks absolutely awesome and have been wanting a new Captain America movie for years.

Just further proves my theory that a story regardless if it's movie, book or videogame is nothing without good characters.

Thor, Green Lantern, X-Men: First Class and Captain America means we have a good year in store.

The section where the group burst through the door, looks like the furthest on the left is wearing a British Commando Beret and wielding a Sten Gun. So the brits at least look like they are going to get a mention.
If we don't, just console yourself that they shot part of the movie here, so they definitely couldn't do THAT without us!

He does look amazingly similar. Also, Iron Man was pretty damn amazing. I'd love for it to be as good as that.

OT: Looks interesting... but because of how long it has taken just to get this out... I'm wondering what to expect. Thor has been whored out for months while this movie has barely been mentioned. Little suspicious.

My one minor complaint: That we have to wait until AFTER the 4th of July to see it. It can't just be me that thinks that this could have been the perfect 4th of July Weekend movie.
