Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 Off to Best Start Ever

Tiger Woods may not swing the club like he used to but that doesn't seem to be hurting sales of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters, which has put up the best first-week sales numbers in the history of the franchise.

Electronic Arts pretty much stood alone among Tiger Woods' major sponsors when it stood by him during his little spot of marital difficulties back in 2010. The publisher did open the door to a change of mind at the end of 2010 after Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 tanked rather badly but now it appears that sticking with its Number-One Guy has paid off, as the 2012 edition is off to the franchise's best start ever.

Internal estimates show unit sales of roughly 225,000 over the first week of sales, beating the previous mark, held by Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, by 17 percent in North America. Year-over-year first-week digital sales for the franchise are up by more than 200 percent and the iPhone and iPad versions of the game were the top-grossing sports apps on iTunes throughout the first sales week as well.

"We expected fans to be excited about the Masters and for sales to be up significantly," said EA Sports President Peter Moore. "We're pleased that they are."

Nearly two million rounds of virtual golf were played at the Augusta National Golf Club over the two weeks following the game's launch on March 29. The equivalent of 2515 PGA Tour seasons have been played in online tournaments on consoles, more than seven million games have been played across all courses, over 184 million shots have been taken, 12 million course mastery objectives completed and 1.5 million achievements and trophies have been unlocked.

He certainly is a philanderer, But Tiger's still a great golfer also pretty much the only thing keeping golf interesting. The fact that people still wanna play his PGA tour doesn't surprise me in the least. I'm glad he's still playing.

For his sake at least: I prefer manly games

I had been keeping a close eye on the masters when I had the time, and have been getting into golf a bit more. I was thinking about getting this game, the problem is that I have never played a golf game in my life, so I didn't really know what to expect. And with minimal amounts of actual gameplay on youtube, I only knew a little bit about the game.

It's good to see it did well in sales though :D

The newer games have tighter and less forgiving mechanics at first, but they are still pretty fun. If you can, try the 2004 Tiger game. It's just pure fun with forgiving mechanics and tons of customizations.

Wow, people really love their golf. Im surprised EA would hold onto such a franchise for so long. Oh yea, it's Activision that enjoys cutting franchises and closing companies.

Another interesting thing is they ACTUALLY CHANGE THINGS.

This isn't the same game over and over. They make changes to it.

Now don't get me wrong, some of the changes are bullshit.

But I liked 11, and now I find myself very fond of 12.

They are almost different games to me.

This is the only sports series that I might buy another of. Maybe.

But I'd be hardpressed to see myself playing a new one since this kind of has everything I want :P.

You should check it out if you can get it for around 40 bucks.

The caddie is kind of a prick sometimes but he helps ease you into the game.

Use him + easy and lower AI and it'll nudge you in so smoothly. Very well done entry level options.

EA knows how to pick a release date. Two days before The Masters begin the game is out. Couldn't have planned that any better.

Who plays these games? Honestly, they seem to sell (along with other sport games) but one seems to be playing them when I ask them if they do.

What can I say? Some people like playing with Tiger Woods' balls.
