New Wonder Woman Will Wear "Those Little Shorts"

NBC surprised the world today with the announcement of a third, never-before-seen Wonder Woman costume that will feature - because you demanded it - "little shorts."

It's utterly baffling to me but for some reason, a lot of people seem really wound up about the costume Adrienne Palicki will wear in the new Wonder Woman pilot being developed for NBC. Shiny blue pants? And matching blue boots? Unacceptable! So changes were made: the vinyl pants were dropped, replaced by something a little more functional-looking (and a little less reflective) while the boots went from blue to a more wonderful, womanly red. Power to the people!

Except according to NBC President Robert Greenblatt, that was the plan from the start, and there's actually a third, as-yet-unrevealed costume that will make old-time Wonder Woman fans very happy. "There was an initial outcry about the long pants - you know, skintight pants as opposed to those little shorts [worn by Lynda Carter in the original TV series]," Greenblatt told TVLine.com. "But the shorts were always planned. They are actually used in the final confrontation when she beats Veronica Cale."

"We haven't made any changes from what was planned," he said. "But it's always good to hear the feedback. I'd rather have people really passionately engaged in conversation, even if they hate something, than be kind of bored."

He added, however, that limits must be set and that further changes in response to fan criticism are unlikely. "There's always critiques of everything," he said. "If we listen to all of that, we would probably never be able to get the job done. David [Kelley] is a great writer... I think it's going to be interesting to see it cut together. I've been doing this long enough to know that nothing is a safe bet. Even with the best of intentions and the best people, you just don't know until you see it finished - and we're a few weeks away from that. But it's been getting a lot of attention. A lot."

Now that the big news is out, we'll probably see "Classic Shorts Wonder Woman" publicity photos fairly soon, but in the meantime I guess we can all finally breathe a little easier knowing that we really dodged a bullet, and that there will in fact be little shorts. Whew!

...So are they stars or plain blue?

Really? As much a fan as I am of Miss Palicki's legs (as well as the rest of her), is that really necessary? Seriously, they might as well go back to the outfit with the rubbery blue pants...

I'm trying really hard to care about Wonder Woman's costume. But, I just...can't.

Personally, I don't think the issue so much was "they're not shorts" as much as it was "OH JESUS MAKE IT STOP! MY EYES!!! THAT IS A HIDEOUS OUTFIT!!!!"

Odd to hear he said the shiny pants weren't planned from the start, but I suppose the original publicity photo with the shiny trousers might have been for lack of the actual costume or to test the reaction or something.

I'll be quite glad to see the little shorts, they are kind of an icnoic part of the original outfit after all. It would like Captain America without his shield or Power Girl without her boob window.

Honestly I'm probably not going to watch it, so i'm not all to concerned about if she has pants or shorts. But there will always be remakes of popular stuff, and a lot of times they will make little changes that don't really matter, but for some reason it enrage's some fan's as if they just killed their favorite series... Really it's not worth getting worked up over.

Why call them shorts anyways? To me, the Wonder Woman Costume always looked like this.

Them ain't no shorts.

Why do I get the impression that all of this costume to'ing and fro'ing was just some kind of exercise in misdirection?

It seems to me that they're just trying to keep us off balance with all this 'so called debate' over the costume in the hopes that they can convince us that when we get the costume we 'want' it'll make everything ok and we won't bother about the ridiculous plot lines they're trying to foist on us.

I don't give a toss about this show and it's got nothing to do with the costume. Completely Rewrite the plot circumstances and I 'might' be willing to notice the show, but an 'upbeat girly comedy about a female ceo by day and funky chick superherione by night who need emotional support from her bff' just sound so damn shit.

As ridiculous as this costume will be, it's hard to get mad. This is one step closer to just giving her a blue thong, which is fine with me.

I have no real interest in it, but that first costume was legitimately awful. It looked like a horrible cross between a cheap Halloween costume and a vinyl fetish suit.

The newer pants actually looked pretty decent and certainly looked much less cheap. "Those little shorts" seem a little cheap and fan-servicy again even if there is history behind it.

The non-shiny rubber pants pictured in the first image looked good, damnit!

However, the Justice League Unlimited Wonder Woman costume was the best, as pictured above by Soviet Heavy.

They're already skin tight. I ain't complaining.

It's like plate underwear isn't? Must chafe something fierce.

OT: Yeah this show just died, it had a chance with the pants but not anymore with battle thong. I can already see the headlines "New Wonder Woman TV Show Sexist?" oh yeah, this is gonna go over like a midget tied to a lead brick in Congress.

*opens umbrella*

I await the upcoming shit-storm with the utmost preparedness. I have a bomb shelter out back for anyone who's a little more freaked out.

Have to say I agree with you. It's pretty difficult to get worked up over.

I can sort of see where the funny-book fans are coming from. They want to see a faithful representation of the larger-than-life appeal of the character, rather than some faux-hip watering down. Of course it goes without saying this is a cynical ploy to drum up interest. After all, the only time Wonder Woman has had any coverage recently was when DC decided to modernize the character's costume. It would have been foolish of them not to ride that wave.

I still say the only way it would be humanly possible to shoot a watchable Wonder Woman would be to a) keep, nay, celebrate, the fun campy style of the old series! (best option) or b) Go the route of the new comics and make WW a younger, hipper, super-heroine with mysterious, mystical origins and amnesia... *snore* In other words though, make her relevant to a new generation, while still keeping some of ye olde mythos for fans of the comics.

Yeah... not a fan of the shorts...

For some reason, I feel like what she's wearing is going to be the least of this show's problems.

That's not a photo from the new show just a Halloween costume or model for something else, but yeah I guess that means she'll be getting something among the likes of those If not a little higher on the sides or lower all around.

I still think the 2nd pair of pants were decent.

I'm not a big Wonder Woman fan, but I thought the shiny blue pants looked horrible.

eh???

No changes were made, but they don't want to make any more changes??? For there to be "further changes" that means there was at least one change. Right? I guess that means something was changed due to criticism, but it just wasn't the outfit. I guess? Am I missing something, or is Greenblatt an idiot/liar?

Really? I'm almost sure the new pants are an actual photo from the show - I remember seeing a series of the pictures from a photoshoot in the last article posted about them. Pretty sure the picture of the old pants is also from an official photo.

If you mean "those little shorts", yes, I realise that the picture isn't of them, but they're referring to them as "those little shorts", so the intent pretty much has to be at least partly fan-service.

I'll take Linda Carter and her Wonder Woman any day. I've yet to see remake/rebirth/reboot/re-imagining that hasn't utterly disappointed me.

No, the 2 shots of pants are from the show yes. I only meant the shorts are not I'm in favor of the (Stars down the side non-vinyl)Pants in the 1st of the 3 photos in this article which are the newer pair which I refer to as the 2nd pair because they are not the first ones they showed off.

Edit: what I meant is the shorts if they do go that way may look a bit more dignified(or you know not.) than the random costume they have in the third photo.

I'd rather have people really passionately engaged in conversation, even if they hate something, than be kind of bored.

That reads a lot like a play from Howard Stern's playbook.

I think less flash, more subtle would be good, but then the concept of Wonder Woman has always baffled me, whatever she wears.

I think I liked the long pants with the red boots better. Maybe she'll wear the shorts when she's fighting on the beach, or during summer, and keep the pants for colder occasions.

At least this guy's honest about his chances. He's not spouting, "It's going to be great. People are going to love this to death."

I liked the second one...
Wonder Woman's classic outfit is outdated and cheesy. But Hera forbid they try to improve things...

The pants and boots are fine. It's the belt and top that needs work. Seriously it wouldn't look out of place in a power rangers show the way it is now. Though it is just a tv show so I probably shouldn't care.

Wait, wait. Isn't Wonder Woman an Amazon? You know, the male hating warrior women from Greek myth who cut one of their *ahem* off so they could draw the bow easier? I doubt they shaved much, come to think of it.

Oh wait, it's a comic book series. Thank God for lack of realism!

And at the end of the day, as far as I last heard, the show is still going to be about an Ally McBeal type with super powers and will feature sugar-pop music parading as female anthems. So why the hell do we still care how the costume looks when it sounds like the show will probably be an instant fail anyway? It'll hardly be the fault of the costume department for putting some freaking pants on a glorified bathing suit if the whole thing busts in less than half a season.

Double post

So, she'll be wearing bloomers? On a modern TV show? Really?

Something tells me they would want to make it a bit more modern than that and turn it into more of a bathing suit bottom.

Black latex pants (as opposed to blue) and a leather jacket borrowed from Black Canary is hardly what I'd call an improvement. They want to improve her outfit, start plundering some history books about Ancient Greece and the various styles of armours employed by the Greek city states and create an amalgamation of that. If they want the character to be taken seriously as a warrior, dress her like one.

I'm a fan of the character, and I never really minded the costume in the comics or DCAU for that matter, but for mainstream it needs tidying up a bit.

I watched the original series (my pay t.v company I was with used to air them) and in that series she had a variety of costumes. Maybe all that have been shown will feature in the series?

I wonder if they will have DC characters have like featured eps or cameos.

She should be naked, completely naked.

Andy Chalk:
the vinyl pants were dropped,

Snrk (Fnarr, fnarr) Ooh matron!

yknow ... of all things that could be retconned and "fixed" wonder womans outfit is one of them Id be ok with. its lousey please wear something more practical.
