Madden NFL 12's (Doomed) Cover Star Determined

The cover star to have a go at the Madden curse for the 2011-2012 season has been revealed.

Being on the cover of Madden NFL should be a great honor, but it's not. On one hand, your name and helmeted face becomes known by millions of people around the world. On the other hand, you take a chance at becoming the recipient of the Madden curse, which has knocked football athletes off their game going all the way back to 2001. The next cover star to potentially be affected by the curse for Madden NFL 12 has now been determined by a fan vote.

The vote to determine this man was held over on ESPN's website. Peyton Hillis, runningback for the Cleveland Browns, and Michael Vick, quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, went head-to-head in the vote's final bracket. After over 1,000,000 votes, Hillis came out ahead with 66% of the vote.

Hillis fans mounted a surprisingly successful campaign to put him on the cover, causing him to upset various other NFL stars on his way up. Cleveland must never have heard of the Madden curse.

Additional votes may have gone to Hillis due to Vick's shady past, with Vick having been convicted of a felony for taking part in an illegal dog-fighting ring. He returned to the NFL after 21 months in prison as the Eagles' back-up quarterback, but a strong performance put him in the team's #1 spot. Again, animal rights fans must never have heard of the Madden curse.

Vick is probably happy about the outcome, because he appeared on the cover of Madden NFL 2004 and broke his leg that year. On a positive note, the Madden curse hasn't struck every year for the past decade, only for about 80-90% of them, so if Hillis is lucky he might get a bye.

Eh, he had a okay season. Should've been Brady.

Aw, I wanted Vick to fall victim to the curse.

Poor, poor Cleveland. First, they lost LeBron to the Miami Heat, and now they're at risk of losing another athlete to the Madden Curse. :P

I wonder if there is anyone in the world who will buy a Madden game and yet cannot name whoever is famous enough to be on the cover.

"But The Random One, you don't know who that chap is!" I don't, and I already forgot, so nothing gained for me.

Captcha: Training lyters. Hard work indeed.

Hey, at least Cleveland has nothing to lose. If Hillis goes down, it'll just be another typical losing season for them. He did single-handedly carry the team to most of their wins last season though, so good on him for winning the cover.

I would have liked to see Vic win, if only to see if they would really put him on the cover.

EDIT: And no, I do not condone what he has done.

"Now let me tell you something, boys and girls...I sure as hell believe in curses now."

I am just glad Vick didn't win it, the guy is a Prime Douche

+1

I didn't know Vick had already won. I think they should just break his leg again any way >(

1. Good to see people hate Vick that much to not see him on the cover

2. Sad to see that Vick wont bear the curse....

Oh Bull Shi...

*contains rage*

I'll grant he had a good season, but when he's the only good player of any note on that team, thats winner by default. There's no way he had a better season then Vick or Rodgers.

I hope the Steelers or the Ravens rip him in half this season, cleveland trolls.

Wait, isn't that the guy who MovieBob...

Ohhhh dear.

EDIT: Thanks to my complete dissasociation with the NFL, seems I confused Hill with Vick. Next time I shall go by the text, not the picture.

Aren't the Brown's already cursed? Could it be that they're trying to cancel out their existing curse by using the Madden Curse!?

(PS: not a football fan. Post, PS: HA! Take that Vick.)

That's cool. I can now say I personally know someone on a Madden cover (I was in some classes with him at UofA), a MLB cover and a few covers of WWE/F covers. Now, all I need to do is know some PGA and FIFA players, get the NBA players I know on game covers and I'm set.

So the person on the cover has an amazing season, possibly at the peak of their game, that's exactly what it is, a peak. When you get to the top of a mountain the only possible way is downhill. The 'curse' is just an illogical reason for a logical outcome.

Kizo:
There is no Madden curse.

If you actually read that, all signs point to a curse. Now, I don't believe in such things, but out of everyone who has appeared on the cover, only one or two players went on to have a really good year. Others got injured, saw their numbers dip considerably, or retired. It's very odd.

Well so Hillis, hope you enjoyed your career up till now.

Maybe Hillis will luck out, and the Denver Broncos will bear the next Madden Curse (or former coach Josh McDaniels) for the absurdly stupid way the Broncos handled Hillis. He was essentially traded for a clipboard stand with a pretty face. And it turned out the 1 player the Broncos desperately needed on offense was the Probowl player we gave away.
Josh McDaniels deserves the curse

As a Cleveland fan, we're just proud to have someone from Cleveland put into the spotlight for staying in Cleveland.

Plus, this is Cleveland, we're already cursed. The Drive, the Fumble, Red Right 88. I figure that since things are backwards in Cleveland, a Madden Curse equates to a record shattering season, along with Super Bowl MVP

We're crazy in Cleveland, but you know what, we have something to be proud of finally

At least Vick didn't get it!
I agree 100% with MovieBob.

Why? He's served his time in prison, he payed his debt to society and now he's just trying to do his job. The whole point of the vote was to see who fans believed did the best last season. I don't condone what he did, but what Bob doesn't understand is that Vick was punished for his crime, he should not be banned from the cover just because of something he has already been punished for.

Tom Goldman:
Cleveland must never have heard of the Madden curse.

Our options were another terrible season or seeing our uniform on the cover of a video game for a year.

Hillis was not going to bring us a Superbowl. Probably won't even bring us a playoff spot.

Sorry, 2x post.

I graduated High School with the dude. Seriously. Conway High 2004.

Nice to see another Arkansan on the site. If Nutt hadn't had such a hard on for Jones and Mustaine the Razorbacks could've done something.

The coveted award of being on the cover of the football game in a season where there is no football.

I think Movie Bob actually made a difference on this one.

smh were they your dogs? the man did his time and led Philly through an exciting season...also helped lead me to many victories in madden so he is greatness and you are a mere HATER!

Aww... I voted for Vick. Dogs or no dogs, he had an amazing year and a great career.

Grabbin Keelz:

I already explained how Hillis won. It was the City of Cleveland that got him the honor, dubious though it may be.

The only person that really cares about Moviebob is...Moviebob.

Pretty much that. Bob didn't have anything to do with it.
