H.P. Lovecraft Teaching Sex Ed is, Well, Terrifying

Did you know we all have slimy beasts crawling around inside us?

Sex education in middle school is alternately boring as hell, scary, and occasionally hysterical (provided you've got teacher who is either really old or has a crazy foreign accent). However, it's never really been outright terrifying. That said, a new short film shows just how messed up the class could be if it were taught by H.P. Lovecraft.

"Late Bloomer" by Craig Macneill is a short film takes the normal scenario of teaching kids about sex and reproductive organs and presents it in the narrative style of Lovecraft's various horror stories. Needless to say, the movie is one of the funniest (or horrifying, depending on your perspective) takes on sex ed you're likely to watch.

The movie was apparently an official selection at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. It also won the Audience Award for Best Short Film at the Lake Placid Film Festival, and was named Best Short Film at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival.

At the moment, Macneill doesn't have too many films listed on his résumé. Hopefully, though, the director will eventually be able to tackle a full-fledged Cthulhu project. Or, y'know, do another short like this one.

I like H.P. Lovecraft, this is both funny and disturbing.

...Jesus Christ.

I found a picture just like That. Cthulhu, the porn god!

That was genius.
Disturbing, but genius.
Definitely the best thing I've seen in weeks.

I think we can all reply with LOL, except this time actually meaning a laugh out loud.

Clitoral antennae. There are some terms a sane man should never hear.

...That's one of the best videos I've seen all week.

Quite, but thats the point of Lovecraft. Stuff man are not meant to hear.

...well I'll be damned...

um...

thats... well... i think disturbing and terrifying are perfect for describing it...

what is even more frightening to think is that this has more an impact than a 2 hour long horror movie released these days.

Very good. Definitely disturbing. I wonder how they got Ziggy Stardust to do the narration?

hehehe... penis

Very enjoyaable.

Sex-Education at primary consisted of a woman coming in and drawing her genitals on her dungarees in white chalk. That vid just brought all the emotional scars right back - terrifyingly similar.

The narrator sounded like Christopher Walken trying to be Vincent Price, but still couldn't distract me from the pulsating Fell Uterus. My eyes will never feel clean again

That was interesting.

Dr. wonderful:
...Jesus Christ.

.....well i am horrified.. and aroused!

Agreed, haven't been this disturbed watching some movie in ages.

Also a fine way to alienate friends by mailing this to them.

That was, what's the proper word here... Disturbed works, but it's only a part of it. Disturbed Genius, if there is a word for that, then that was it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to try and halt the narrators voice uttering every word within my mind as I desperately attempt to type my responses to my own will...

So not working yet...

Is it scary or just screwy?

Sorry, at work and I'm risking too much just by being on this page. But I plan to watch it at home.

EDIT: Wow. That was perhaps the most horrid thing I've seen. It was hilarious at first and then... what the fuck? I've seen and heard of more fucked up things, but this ranks pretty far up there.

OH MY GOD THAT WAS AWESOME.

That...was a little disturbing. Great though!

I was utterly terrified... And at the same time, amused... How can this be?

Wow...now this is just...I must say I don't find myself this affected by something on the internet often.

As someone who has had the most uncomplicated sexual upbringing, I must say that this genuinely made me feel sorry for anyone that experiences even a fraction of this kind of terror as presented in this, admittively completely over the top, clip.

Damn good find indeed heh. I doubt I've ever really laughed like this while simultaneously being horrified.

That went from bad, to mildly funny, to boring, to creepy. Hm.

I didn't really like the narrator's voice that much.

I would say the narration is terrifying in it's own right.

Brilliant twist at the end.

Narration: Terrifyingly lovecraftian
Actual situation: Funny as hell.

Yep that's pretty much how I remember sex ed.

This has made my day.
That ending actually made me laugh quite loudly.

Yeah, not seeing how it's "disturbing." I just thought it was goddamn hilarious.

This gets a big meh from me. The narrator was unbearably histrionic and his lines did not sound much like Lovecraft.

That was one of the most wonderfully horrible things I've ever watched, the narrators voice was just perfect.
"I found myself staring at none other than him who is not to be named." best line ever ;)

That's a great video. The narration is top notch. But I can't say England has a similar approach to sex ed.

Ours was pretty mater of fact, no nonsense and the teachers were pretty open and approachable about it.

Of course everyone in the class had already seen porno tapes. So it wasn't really an issue.

Funniest video I've seen all year. Got to send this to my friends now though.

You poor soul... We were just given a disney video in Primary:P

The scariest part is that conservatives believe that sex education is just this.
