Turn Your Dead Space 2 Plasma Cutter Into a Real Weapon!

Turn Your Dead Space 2 Plasma Cutter Into a Real Weapon!

If you've ever wanted to turn your toy space gun into a legitimately dangerous weapon, the internet is here to tell you how.

One of the coolest bits of special edition swag to come along in recent months has to be replica plasma cutter packed in with the Dead Space 2 Collector's Edition. Although not exactly full size, it's a pretty accurate rendition of the best gun in the game and even sports four colored LEDs, giving it a modicum of practicality as the world's nerdiest flashlight.

But an LED isn't going to do any damage to anything; for that, you'll need an upgrade. To lasers. Now I don't know much about lasers but I do know that they come with warning labels and I strongly suspect that this hack, which includes replacing the standard 650nm diodes with "high-power" units, completely disregards those labels and anything else resembling safety or common sense.

But I must concede that the final result is pretty damn awesome. Aside from looking ridiculously cool [and "realistic"], this new-and-improved plasma cutter packs enough punch to pop balloons and light matches with just a brief burst of fire. That's my kind of toy!

Oh kipkay. Everything you do is so awesome :P

I'd like to see those pesky necromorphs try and attack us now.

As Dr.Freeman so lovely puts it ;)

Even if it's "low powered" and can only destroy balloons and light matches...that's pretty awesome...I want one too.

Proof that you don't need Power Nodes to upgrade the plasma cutter.

But does it make 'pew pew' noises?

That's actually pretty dang cool. Especially that the modding was rather simple. I was expecting a slew of parts to get put into the shell.

Damn, lasers are just so damn awesome, you can't beat them.
And this thing looked really neat, and though I haven't played Dead Space 1 or 2, I'd still like to get my hands on such a cool thingy.

Great. Now make a 1:1 replica that actually shoots knives.

Not convinced yet.
Not until it can at least shoot off limbs.

Screw knives.

It should shoot shuriken

And lightning!

That is AWESOME. And I've never even played Dead Space, but the look of those lasers is pretty badass. I wish I had the technical knowledge to put something like this together.

And I have to subscribe to that guy.

Well, something that cuts in a line was what I was going with. So it could cut things. In a line.

Did anyone else hear Cave Johnson's voice when they read this bit?

Why shouldn't we aim the lasers into the sky? It's not like there's anything up there that they can hit...

No. Just shurikens.

Might irritate our alien overlords! D:

OMFG That thing is so awesome it can pop ballons!

I NEED ONE RIGHT NOW!!!

(sarcasm).

Ok, that's seriously cool.

Must have one. How did I ever light candles before this was invented?

This is certainly neat, I can't say it's that much cooler than any of Kipkay's other blue-diode laser guns. The wow factor wears off after a while, sadly.

A laser pointed at the sky can enter the cockpit of a plane and disrupt the pilot's vision

The closest thing I have to experience with lasers is a custom-built lightsaber I made back in high school, so could any would-be laser enthusiasts answer me this:

Why exactly shouldn't I aim a laser into the sky?

I love this guy, always shows you how to make awesome stuff that you will never be able to make due to lack of knowlage and resources :')

Awesome Upgrade man!

I want that!
I would try to craft these kind of D.I.Y things if everything I tried to modify didnt screw up :P

It's a weapon in the same way that a toothpick is a weapon

Caramel Frappe:
Wow, this man is brilliant without a doubt. I'm very impressed, plus it also baffles me on how he was able to pop a balloon and light two matches. Epic win device overall.. which makes me wonder - if he did that with a simple model, the Government could make some seriously dangerous weaponry using laser technology. Anyone agree with me?

A serious weapon that gets completely useless if the target has a reflective surface. Or if it's a foggy day.

Well....lasers with that much coming out of them usually cost a lot.

As for actual weaponry, something that costs that much and simultaneously gives your position away and doesn't kill them like a gun? Not practical at all.

They do have their uses, though.
