I am sorry, but this timeline is pretty poor.

Why is (Twilight Princess)TP on the adult timeline?
The adult ending of (Ocarina of time)OoT doesn't fit with the backstory of TP
It is almost universally accepted, that TP comes after the child ending of OoT.

How come the oracle games are on different timelines?
Both games must have the same Hero in them, as the linked ending ties them both together.

Why is (Links awakening)LA after (Majora's mask)MM?
LA's back story doesn't fit with the child ending of OoT
Original intent would place it after aLttP although there is a good case to place it after the Oracle games ( as in this video).

Has anyone got a link to the actual timeline set out by Nintendo? I just want to see how confusing it is without this explanation

The thing is Nintendo hasn't actually released the timeline. Hell, for a long time, they claimed there wasn't one, but apparently they've decided now there is (or perhaps they were lying before).

Aaaaaanyway. Here's a link (hyuk) to the original split timeline theory. It's actually really solid, and it's the one I subscribe to.

The timeline didn't make sense until Twilight Princess, and now it all fits together nicely. I kinda miss pre-TP days when Zelda forums were nothing but timeline arguments.

Ocarina of Time - Wind Waker - Phantom Hourglass - Spirit Tracks - Legend of Zelda - Adventure of Link

Ocarina of Time - Majora's Mask - Twilight Princess - Minish Cap - Four Swords - Four Swords Adventures - A Link to the Past - Link's Awakening - Oracle of Ages/Seasons

The key elements all flow perfectly this way (Link, Ganon, Zelda, Triforce, Hyrule, Master Sword), but there are a few games that can be moved around. Minish Cap can go as early in that timeline as is your preference (but not later), and the Oracle games could be appended to the end of either timeline (or even possibly in between ALttP and LA).

Yes, I know this incredibly nerdy and pedantic, but I was 15 once, too.

One of the greatest things I've ever seen.

Never realized how fucking confusing the timeline is, when you try to explain it verbally.

Brilliant video but it sure as hell points out why Nintendo shouldn't bother trying to make a timeline for Zelda as it simply doesn't work, heh.

ok so what do I think about the zelda twilight: well it's called the LEGEND of Zelda. Legends are never aquret so one game is what realy happend the rest are the same thing but told differently because every story teller ads something of his own...

Aerograt:
So if I'm getting this straight...

OOT (because Link goes back in time) > Majora's Mask > (OOT Link turns into a Skull Kid, Hyrule flooded... D:) Wind Waker (As new Link) > Twilight Princess > Four Swords GBA? (or Adventures?) > I THINK the second LOZ > Crossbow Training > SSB > SC2 > I don't understand what this one is at 4:15... > Link's Awakening > Link to the Past > ...Something

Minish Cap wasn't included though, and those events have to have happened before the Four Sword Adventures and Four Swords. Also no Oracle games or Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks. Then again, I'm not thinking fourth dimensionally (and I don't blame the creators for not including them, Christ this is confusing).

Oh and AWESOME VIDEO!

No because Miyamoto said that the twilight princess was 100's of years after ocarina of time but it happened before the Wind Waker

Ah lol. That is such a good explanation of insane timeline. And I love Back To The Future so XD Yay.

And thats only from Ocarina of time! Thats not even including the Snes and Nes ones.

Alternatively you could explain it like this "Bunch of games on Nes and Snes" ->Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time" -> "Multiple Clones"

Scarim Coral:
Not only does this video combine two of my favourties stuff but also explain the whole timeline in a funny way! Man you would think that Ganon would of give up by the time he is defeated by the tenth or so Link.

When I played Wind Waker and it explained that you where Links descendant, and it was a hundred years later, then Ganon wakes up sees some kid wearing green clothes holding the master sword named Link. I really thought his first reaction should have been, "You know what, fuck this, I'm done."

Haha, wicked. They should modify Epona into a timetravelling mount!

Which is stupid. Why would the races of Hyrule have relics from the ancient hero, if the ancient hero never actually existed in the timeline?

Is it a bad sign that the first thing I thought after that was that he didn't bring in all the games and that there are parts of his timeline I disagree with?

Specifically, Link's Awakening should be at the end of the timeline unless followed by a game without the Master Sword because it is said specifically in ALttP that the Master Sword rests forever, and Nintendo has also said that the first four games (from LoZ to LA) happened in chronological order.

Not to mention that Nintendo has stated that WW and TP happen at about the same time just in different timelines.

As a guy who has put some thought and research into it, here is all the things that are wrong with that timeline:

A) Four Swords isn't even there, just FS adventure, but FS is also cannon. Nintendo said they pictured FS as the first game in the timeline (which they previously said about OoT, but said before Minish Cap was released). Spirit Tracks isn't there either, but I assume it wasn't released when this was made.

B) LA happens after ALttP. Until Ocarina of Time, all the games where chronological, but OoT was a prequel, presumably because Nintendo realized that after saying the Master Sword was put to rest "forever" they could not reuse the MS unless it was a prequel.

C) Nintendo has also said specifically that TP and WW were in different timelines.

D) The oracles games are in the same timeline. The princess' maid recognizes you in one oracle game from having met you in the other.

I'm not quite sure where the oracles games would be placed in the New timeline or where FSA and TP would be, so I won't debate them.

"in approximately 1.21 MILLENIA!"

That part made me crack up. XD

I like how they included Link's Crossbow Training, Soul Caliber, and Super Smash Brothers in this timeline theory even though the last two probably happen in some alternate reality or something.

From what I've heard of the Split theory, the first two games should be on the same side as Wind Waker, since after the waters recede the whole map is changed from the others games going into the first game.

I'm less confused, but still, what?!

I'm willing to believe that all of the Zelda games (with a few exceptions) are all just stand alone games with stand alone links from different dimensions. It makes sense that way. Alternate dimensions and realities and whatnot.
