Hilarious Oblivion Machinima Makes Great Case for Mods

Why walk across Cyrodiil when you can swim through the air or ride a magic zebra?

If you're in the market for an epic swords and sorcery game, then Oblivion might just be the game for you. If you're looking for something a little more left field, then Oblivion - with the help of a few mods - could still be the game for you, as "The Silly Adventures of Mr. Mochi," rather ably demonstrates.

The premise for The Silly Adventures of Mr. Mochi is fairly simple: a hero steps through a magical door, and is transformed into something ... different. From there, Mr. Mochi takes an extended tour of Cyrodiil, visiting its many lovely towns and villages, meeting new people, turning them into sheep or stealing their clothes. Notably, most of Mr. Mochi's powers and abilities are the result of mods, some cosmetic and others that tweak gameplay. There's no dancing, limbo or otherwise, in vanilla Oblivion for example, and definitely no swimming through the air.

The video is the work of YouTube user "The Ninja Cowboy." In the description for the video, Cowboy Ninja said that he hadn't seen any Oblivion machinima that appealed to him, so he had decided to make his own. While the bizarre assortment of mods certainly helps the video's humor, the fact that Ninja Cowboy has a good eye for funny shots and used a great piece of music doesn't hurt either.

It's a shame that PC games in general aren't more accommodating to mods, as there's clearly a lot of creative and skilled people out there. Fortunately, Skyrim - Oblivion's successor - does allow mods, so Mr. Mochi might one day get to hang out with the Nords.

I am crying. The spongebob first episode soundtrack goes so fantastically with this. Oh man, I am actually crying of laughter.

Stuff like this makes me wish I had a computer worth a damn so I could use mods.

I love this ^_^ The music was just epic.

What the fuck did I just watch?

gotta love mods :D

And yet D3 has already said "NO MODS". Someone should really take EA/Acti-Blizz out to the "shop floor" and point out that selling people what they want is better than selling them what they say they want.

In one word: Customization.

And that's not a euphemism for DLC.

I saw it earlier today. And it is freaking hilarious !
Love it. Every second of. Great work.
And i do want to see more.

That was hilarious.

Saw it this morning or so. Something I saw before the Escapist?! WOOHOO!

I but wha?
Am I going to die now?

I actually use lots of Oblivion and Morrowind mods and yeah, they make games better/funnier/prettier. This video made me lol, but I don't think I'll be dl these mods, I have too many already :D

So from watching this Im removing

Fable x Oblivion style game

from my hopes and dreams....

This is hilarious. I actually cried a little from the laughing. Also, so true that this shows how awesome Mods can be.

Things Bethesda will add in as an Easter Egg number 1: Mr Mochi

He will be the new Daedric Prince of Madness

That's my thoughts on it, right there.

I got Oblivion at the steam sale and haven't played it yet (Deus ex first, given human revolution is released before skyrim), any recommendations for mods?

My mind is... is...

I think i'm crying with laughter.

The music is so fitting, it's half of the hilarity of the video.

This is funny. currently typing this on the floor because i fell of my chair.

Frakkin AWESOME!

Start on the TESnexus, they have the most mods. Just browse trough the top 100 on the homepage, and you'll find something you'll enjoy.

The news crew are good at reporting things just after other Escapists do...

This looks normal to me.
*begins foaming at the mouth*

I bought Oblivion for the PC, got a whole big wish-list of mods and then realised that my PC is so utterly useless it couldn't run it half the time, and when it did, i just took advantage of console commmands, gave myself emperors robes and began beating people to death.

God I nearly pissed my pants watching that :D

OT: No, mods are evil and they are killing the gaming industry!
Bobby could make $20 a pop just off this mod, you want to deny him that and give it away for free?!
You want Bobby to starve do you?
Just ask yourself, what would Jesus do?

This is the third time today I watch this. It's really good, like the music too

Most people will suggest mods that completely overhaul the game, but play it a few hours without mods so you know what bothers you. If you hate the level scaling, you get a level scaling fix, if you hate the magic system you get a magic overhaul.

however, to suggest a mod: LAME(Less Annoying Magic Experience), it adds more spells, alters how they function(for instance, most buffs get a longer duration) and it's completely modular, you can activate only the parts you want to use.

I can't wait to see how Microsoft tries to sell mods on the 360 version of Skyrim (Bethesda said something like they were interested in bringing mods to consoles.....somehow).

I don't think you can die from awesome.

The funny thing is? He entered and exited the realm of madness. That... isn't entirely unrealistic, when taking the world of Oblivion into account.

Haven't had a good laugh like that in some time now XD

On the techside, it wouldn't be much of a problem (although, the RAMtarded nature of consoles would severely limit the number of mods that could run simultaneously).

The problem that Bethesda are facing in bringing mods to consoles is that the console manufacturers want Bethesda to implement some scheme to prevent 'objectional content' and such being distributed on their networks.

I'm not entirely sure what just happened, but it may've been the most hilarious thing ever.

The only Mod that' I'm really going to say is a must-have is WZ_inventory. It overhauls the inventory GUI, and is an absolute GODSEND for you once you start gathering up a ridiculous number of items.

Hahahahahaha That was totally brilliant. Can't wait for more of them.

Oh man, that's hilarious. It's always great to wake up and laugh.

Nah, they said they want to get mods on consoles. Pretty important distinction.

I believe I can help you with that.

*cracks knuckles*

But as said above, best thing to do is play it mod-less by yourself for a bit and see what you like/don't like, and go from there. But some I do recommend no matter what are the unofficial patches and the low-poly grass. Low-poly grass especially for how much it does for performance. Why Bethesda put 24 polygons on EVERY BLADE OF GRASS I'll never know. Especially when the mod reduces that to 4 with no visual hit and a huge performance boost.
