Crow Reboot Loses Star, Mark Wahlberg a Possible Replacement

Crow Reboot Loses Star, Mark Wahlberg a Possible Replacement

Mark Wahlberg probably won't get to be Nathan Drake, but maybe he could be Eric Draven instead.

It looks like A-Team and The Hangover star Bradley Cooper might not be appearing in the reboot of The Crow after all; sources suggest that the actor has scheduling conflicts that prevent him from appearing. But that doesn't mean that the reboot is dead in the water; the studio just needs to find a new leading man, and apparently it has its eye on Mark Wahlberg.

This isn't the first time that Wahlberg's name has come up in connection with the reboot: he was previously thought to be a lock for the lead role last year, although he later squashed the rumor, saying that he had been interested, but never formally committed to it. Wahlberg isn't the only possible replacement for Cooper though; GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra star Channing Tatum is also rumored to in the running for the part.

A lack of a leading man isn't the only problem that the reboot has to deal with either: The Weinstein Company has sued Relativity, the studio behind the movie, over the films distribution rights. The case is still currently in arbitration with both sides contending that they own the rights.

The original Crow movie - an adaptation of the 1989 James O'Barr comic of the same name - came out in 1994. The movie did well at the box office, although a shadow was cast over its success following the death of its star Brandon Lee, who died after accidentally being shot on set. Any reboot is going to have to be pretty impressive to compete with that.

WHAT!? This is the first I've heard of them remaking The Crow, which, to be honest, shouldnt be allowed to go ahead. The origional should stand on its own, even as a memory to Brandon Lee.

I hate Hollywood reboots as a whole anyway, I can only see them completely ignoring The Crows story and point in favour of sex scenes and bullshit cgi gunfights.

Reading the synopsis of the comic general plot, I can safely say that no sane studio would successfully adapt this comic into a movie because these days there isn't a studio with enough guts to pull it off.
Read the synopsis.

They think that if an idea works one could remake it and by doing that one could have an audience merely because the product shares the same name and vague synopsis as the previous.
If it worked earlier, why not do it again?

Thats too bad, he did a really good job in Limitless. I think he would make a fine Crow. But any remake won't hold a candle to the original.

I just don't see Marky Mark in that role. I know he's a good actor, but he's just not the Crow to me. Maybe he can surprise me though.

I don't know who will play the new Crow, but it won't be Brandon Lee which makes me sad. And if Michael Cera does it, I will officially end my life. No joke. I will seriously kill myself.

Ain't they both too old to play the crow anyway? Eric was in his early twenties if I remember correctly.

Why must we reboot things that do not need to be rebooted?

Why cant we be original....

I didnt know they were remaking the crow but im not sure if that is a good idea. I think the reason it was successful in the first place was because it was released during the grunge era and it was a very grungey film. Also for some strange reason if somebody dies while a movie was being made it instantly turns into a hit and that actors best work ever.

It's going to be shit, the Casting choices they've had so far prove that.

I will happily ignore it in favour of just sticking with a great comic and movie.

what's with everyone considering Whalberg? I just can't see him having the depth necessary to play a character like he Crow, or the wit and lightheartedness to play nathan drake, he's just kind of a one trick pony in terms of his range

"15 years have passed, time for a shitty remake"

MARK WALBERG?! REALLY?! As the Crow!?!?? Yeah, its official. Humanity deserves to die.

Will someone please keep Mark Wahlberg away from my favourite characters?! Bradley Cooper was amazing in Limitless, and he has the good looks and the talent that I think would make him a great Crow. Wahlberg has none of these things.
A new adaptation of the book has a lot of potential in my opinion, but the guys in charge don't seem competent if they're best replacements for Cooper are Channing Tatum or Mark Wahlberg.

It will be shit no matter who plays Draven.

Nothing will be remotely on par with the original they must know that surely.

It's bad enough they keep fucking up classic films but after being told by thousands upon thousands of people that each remake they do is shit they want to do it to films that have a massive cult following like The Crow.

I don't think Mark Wahlberg would be a good Crow because he's too big, too burly. The Crow is slim, lithe, nimble, a bit feminine, which is why Brandon Lee did so well.

I'm Seriously boycotting this.

Firstly, an unnecessary reboot of one of my favourite films, which is bad enough.

Then to rub salt in the wounds, you get a shitty actor to play the frikken Crow.

I can't express in words how angry I am.

Lt. Vinciti:

<_> Because that's hard, and has no guarantee of success.

;) It is much easier to just dig up the corpes of a loved icon, shoot it with lightning, and make the fans pay to see it twitch. Because even if it makes them sick, many will still pay...

Agreed. A Crow reboot/remake/prequel/sequel/interquel would amount to something that I'd probably watch on DVD a couple of years after its release only to find all of my suspicions of disappointment confirmed.

mark walberg? you mean the "Where the bees go guys?" guy?

nothing of value was lost. (not that i hate the guy, he just doesnt seem crow like to me)

and speaking of remakes, when the hell is that red dawn movie coming out?

First of all, Wahlberg just doesn't look the part. Not in the least.

Second, the world does not need this reboot.
There are sooooo many classics out there to defile, guys - just pick a different one, OK?

Indeed. Plus it is a pretty good movie, I always liked it, and dread to think what a remake would do to it. It stands beside the classic films which should never be remade, like Bladerunner.

But Mark fucking Wahlburg! - did I miss some awesome movie that he starred in, that made him look anything other than a complete douche?. He is not, and never will be fit for leading roles, not even in low budget movies, he's lucky to have what career he has already.

I don't think this movie should be remade in the first place. Now I hope it never goes through. I like Mark Wahlberg, but this is not the role for him.

You know... what the hell is so special about Wahlberg that everyone is trying to cram him into any movie that might be relevant to my interests...? He's no Nathan Drake, he's no Max Payne, and he definitely ain't The Crow!

Whalberg is not a fit for this movie, please let him and it be. Next thing you know, we'll end up with Jason Momoa.

Seriously? They would consider Marky Mark for anything in this movie? I have no idea how he gets in any movies. I call him the black hole because no matter what they put him in or who they put in with him, he sucks all the talent out of the movie. The man cannot act. The people making this have issues and need to seek professional help for even mentioning his name for this. Of course even considering a remake of the movie pretty much makes that apparent. I will not waste my time seeing it. But I am sure enough people will so they can continue the butchering of good movies.

Why exactly does Hollywood think Mark Whalberg is the answer for everything? I mean, I don't think he's that bad a person or actor, but then I've never seen every film he starred in. Plus, I would think you should get an actor who can fit the character physically. I just can't see Whalberg being a thin, goth'd out anti-superhero.*

*(Never read the comics, but I enjoy the Brandon Lee film, and that's how I see the character.)

Can we please ask then to do a different Crow story, Wild Justice or Temple of the Night or anything but to just make a cash grab remake of Devil's night.. any other crow story please. Any other host of the crow but Eric Draven, that movie was made and within our time that it doesn't warrant a remake in 10-20 more years maybe but NOT NOW!

Hollywood =

Fail

I see a Reboot-reboot coming on.

I've enjoyed a couple of his (MW) films but The Crow? Seriously?

If they're gonna reboot a move, reboot one that sucked. Reboot it and do it properly this time. Doom, I'm looking at you.

Agreed, wholeheartedly. I am sick and tired of Hollywoods seeming lack of creativity, these days. Remake this, Reboot that.... Its pathetic, really.

This movie should be left as is...

There is an old saying that fits quite well here:

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

NOOOOOOOOOO not Marky Mark as the Crow please no! Really, they need to do a Crow movie with Mark Dacascos.

(and not Channing Tatum either please for the love of all...)

you know, colin farrell would make a great crow not Mark Wahlberg, i can defiantly see him in the face paint and his size fits.

one thing is who will direct the movie, what is the attitude of the leading man in the script, the environment of the set, the cast, and the villain.

I'm mildly interested in the Crow as a remake but Mark Wahlberg? Wasn't he Max Payne? meh, what the hell: bring it on. It can't be that bad.
