Spike Reveals Gameplay Video of BioWare's Next Game

This is all conjecture.
There's a good chance that it might not be at all related to Mercenaries.

I suppose that's probably as good a guess as any other. Well, we'll know come December 10th, and thus far it's still the only reason I have for wanting to see the VGAs.

Hm, intriguing. A few admittedly pessimistic thoughts ran through my mind though:

Another modern military shooter. Others said it, I'll say it, and people will be saying it no matter what. But seriously guys, seriously? Another one? If it is a modern military shooter of any type, it's still a modern military game. Now that the obvious is out there, my second thought is "backup plan for Battlefield 3?" Something for EA to have under their belt for next year's "Call of Duty: Not Modern Warfare But We Really Want It To Be."

Conjectures aside, we won't know until there's more information beyond a quick glimpse of a modern military convoy presumably being ambushed. ;)

Oh, great...ANOTHER war-FPS. Yeah, I'm speculating. Hey, what am I supposed to do here with a two-second footage of the game?

I like BioWare and all, but the last thing I wanna see is another FPS, no matter how "original" it is. This year alone, we had Brink Homefront, GoW, CoD, Battlefield, Rage, and who knows what else.

Please don't let this game be any of that. Please let me wrong...

You know what I miss? I miss when Bioware made RPGs, not dumbed-down third person action games with vaguely RPG-like features sprinkled sparingly over the top. It seems they're finally giving up the pretense that their heritage means anything to them, and just making straight-up shooters.

On the assumption that this is, indeed, a new Mercenaries title...

I had heard that BioWare absorbed what remained of Pandemic studios before EA stomped it flat. "A new BioWare studio" might well be a re-naming of the old Pandemic crew, and I really can't think of a better studio for that group. Let's hope that they channel Star Wars:Battlefront and not Saboteur.

Racecarlock:
Jesus. Next thing you know nintendo will make a GTA game.

Grand Theft Zelda

I don't know about it being a new Mercenaries game but if it's going to be like it looks like to me from that screenshot and that clip then I think it will lead me to lose all hope that Bioware will ever make anything interesting ever again.

YAY!!!! another grey military game :D i haven't seen one of those in DAYS

Hey look, its exactly the same thing that people posted after they saw the new Bioware teaser LAST year.

A military game that looks like its set in the real world, with likely no magic or super technology?

*begins slamming head into wall*

I really really hope we are just being teased

It looks like a RTS game....

Kinda looks like Command And Conquer... Heh that would be a bit silly though...

But EA do have the rights to the game.....

No, Bioware developing a new Command and Conquer game would be a bad move from their part.

Another military shooter set in a dusty country?

....Cmon guys.

As long as they keep making Mass Effect games (I'm pretty sure I read that after they finish Mass Effect 3 they intend to continue making Mass Effect games) I don't really mind

OKay everyone saying 'a new mercenaries game' The video said "brand new" a bunch of different ways so I doubt it's a sequel... just sayin'

Kitsuna10060:

I love how people say that they use the same colours in every game, they can't exactly change the colour of real life things can they? What other colours do you propose they use?

Bad; "a new bioware studio..."
Good;bioware
bad; bioware making a combat centric game
good; making a mercenaries game
bad;making another mercenaries gam
Good;mercenaries with deeper gameplay that bioware has specialised in
bad;"a new bioware..."

my thought summed up if they are making merc inc./mercenaries 3

(addendum)You it's really sad looking at this. All of the different games it could be and none of them are a solid RPG. unless this is an entirely new game altogether. It's like you can see EA trying to figure out what it's suppose to do with bioware.

EA;so what are good at making?
Bioware;RPGs
EA; well what are you working on now?
Bioware; It's called Mass Effect 2, it's a space opera about fighting aliens. It's got a great story and heavy characac-
EA; yeah that's great, it's a shooter right? We've looked at it and it doesn't have enough combat sections. and who are these reaper guys?
Bioware; The reapers? oh they're massive aliens who come and wipe out all life in the galaxy every 10 billion ye-
EA yeah thats great, i think you should get to fight one...
Bioware; you do that in Mass Effect 1
EA;On foot
bioware; What?
EA; Yeah, and it'll be like fighting a giant robot and...
*Mass Effect 2 comes out*
EA; well the review scores for that combat/adventure game weren't any good, so what are you good at?
Bioware; RPGs
EA; hmmm... well there isn't any money in that. Well there is some in MMORPGs, but what can beat WoW? i know, STAR WARS! yeah make a STAR WARS MMO.
*End of TOR beta*
EA; hmmm... well these beta reviews aren't very good, so you guys can't do an MMO. What can you do?
Bioware;RPGs
EA; There's no money in that, Shooters that what you guys make right? Like that Mad Effect game? yeah shooters. Oh i know you can that mercenaries game! you have the guys from pandemic right? Yeah make that mercenaries game!

Not Knights 3. So once again another potentially mediocre game is on the cards. Bioware you really went down hill when you made Mass effect...

Don't worry, Mercenaries isn't a dull brown/grey FPS. Mercenaries is a dull brown/grey third person shooter.

As long as the other branches of Bioware keep making RPGs; it'll be fascinating (if nothing else) to see how this thing turns out.

and that's a credible excuse for adding ANOTHER uninspired military game to a market that's already got FAR to many of them how?

Yes another military shooter!

Want to hear the best part? I am not being sarcastic :D

"From a new Bioware studio..." What's that supposed to mean?

This was explained to some extent during EA's press conference at this year's E3. They are branching out their sectors of gaming. Bioware in the process was given more resources and they were given control over some of the smaller development teams(which is where the new would come in from).

So if EA is the publisher, and some other development team is making the game, that makes Bioware what? Middle management? I am thrilled for their promotion. Really, I am.

BioWare isn't just a single entity, you know. Since 2008 it's been made up of several studios, each of which makes different games: BioWare Austin, BioWare Edmonton, BioWare Ireland, BioWare Montreal, BioWare Mythic, and BioWare San Francisco. This is nothing new.

Hmmm, used to be that i'd buy any new bioware game with no questions asked as soon as i had money on me.
And then came Mass Effect 2 and it's chest high walls, limited ammo and simplified character building (not bad game, but i was expecting more), and after that the complete cluster fuck that was Dragon Age 2.

Ah well, SW:TOR is still looking good and i shall remain cautiously optimistic about this new project.

Whoa, hold on, hold on. You might be on to something right there. What if there was a military FPS shooter that was super colorful and bright and happy? Shooting itself doesn't have to be related to war or something depressing. Something like...a Ratchet and Clank game, only FPS at all times? Yeah, something original, with a witty sense of humor and colorful? Or a game about a guy always on shrooms who sees everything in a colorful way...

Think about it. Even if it's a flop, it WOULD be an original game. I would play that even if its just to see if it sucks or not.

...Not only that, but the world itself isn't just a huge grey palette. I wonder if there would be a way to incorporate new elements, colors and environments to this imaginary game. I'm sure there would be.

Wow, you managed to know that this game isn't creative despite you seeing less than 2 seconds of it. You're either clairvoyant or a dumbass. And a clairvoyant would know how to use proper capitalization and grammar.

You know absolutely nothing about this game beyond that it has tanks in it. If you (as in you the person who is reading this, yes you kitsuna) can't think of a fun creative way for a game to use tanks, then really, all hope is lost for you.

Not even this can get me to watch that abortion of an award show.

Oh look, brown environments and a tank! How fucking original. No worries though, the fanboys will love it.

EDIT: Also, the Spike awards? I'd rather watch fucking Oprah.

You are aware you described HAZE, right?

And before that you described Halo.

not true, it looks to be top-down as well. but if it has tanks, then it'll have army personnel and i've already lost interest, blowing stuff up in a tank and 'point and click' FPS games might works for you, but they do little for me.

i prefer sharp metal objects, and close quarters. guns :D are for cowards

I would still classify those into the whole grim-war/event-that-devastate-a-location/race-and-now-everything-is-serious-business.
Kudos to both games for using something other than grey. But I meant I would like to see a military game, as in pseudo contemporary military (Kinda like CoD, although that also falls into the fantasy realm at times, but you get it: Some game where they don't use laser cannons and stuff), that manages to use bright colors. Somehow. I didn't meant EXACTLY something like Halo or Ratchet and Clank. I just meant something colorful and fun that can still be classified as a military, contemporary FPS.

I just have a slight feeling that the tiny clip of the new game could be something like the old battlefields like BF 2142 and be some sort of Strategy FPS, or something like the commandos games used to be. I doubt they'd manage that and still get a large audience though.

Absolutely terrible video. If it's another Mercenaries game though, I'll forgive them. The first Mercs was one of my favourite games of last gen. I'll also be happy if it's C&C generals 2.

Well on first impressions I would call RTS, but BioWare is all about casual and consoles now so that would make no sense at all.
But they do want to move away from RPG and TPS is the only other thing they got practice in, plus the Pandemic crew went to them so a third person shooter of sorts is probably the best guess.

I can't say that I'm excited, Bioware now pushes me further away with every new project and the "realistic" modern shooter genre isn't exactly my favorite.
